Party On Garth …. Excellent

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Still not smoking, tomorrow starts week 15.  I played bass at a private function last nite, have played this function the last three years.  I mentioned to a band mate how cold the same night was last year.  She looked at me and said "It’s because your not nipping out at every opportunity for a smoke, it’s actually colder this year you dolt".  Huh, unintended benefits.

Note to self, no morning cardio if you are going to be responsible for others rockin thier ass off until midnite.  I was getting pooped!

Im back on second course of 5×5 whole body 3x times a week and moring "wakeups" (Light hill climb and 10 mintes all out bike, abs on the ball) every morning. Its working good.

Starting to get a lil concerned on weight gain, i have put on 15 pounds since July.  The calipers say it is a t the expense of 2$ body fat.  I’m not going to worry yet, everyone thinks i look better then July pics carrying more weight up top.

Week 13 starts tmrw

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I’m feeling like I havent smoked in years, but I will take 3 months.  I feel fully back, the mental "burps" are farther apart, attention is just an occassional issue and I am feelin good about never going back. Thanks to those who have sent me their well wishes and help. It is much appreciated. Mojo if you ever move back to NYC let me know!

I have finished the three months of 5×5/6×6 and looking amnd looking to start another round of 90 days. 6×6, full body, 3 days out of 7 is a real smack in the chops. It makes you eat big and sleep… cus if you don’t you will be one sorry M’fo!

I got a good tip on sumo squats and the smith machine that I have added to the leg routine (thanks S’star34!) and will change up a few of the exercises and hit it for the next 90 days. I like the growth and it seems to like me.

Milestones:  Finally Broke 220 bench, now repping 180×6 and getting stronger.  15 months without a drink, 3 months without a smoke.  Resting HB now 54 bpm, blood pressure very good.  I FEEL GREAT

10 Weeks. No Cigs

Monday, November 17th, 2008

The cravings have faded, but I am having memory and attention issues still.  I am also getting new sudden major headaches for no reason. I have been referred to a neurologist as this is not being linked to smoking or Chantix.  Wish me luck.

Weight is coming on, BF remaining the same so all good.  This is a rest week from 6×6 to start a new phase.  I am unsure what to do.  I think i will get my diet together and start bulking and see how that goes. PS, and I’d like to paint Maddi’s toenails if the job is open.

Week 9 no Cigs … 6×6 and heavy weights

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

"No Smoking" is still going to plan.  I also had a very good week in the gym even though work is very busy and personal like is in a bit of a tailspin.

Wtill working the 6×6, I have a bit of nagging rotator pain "warning" but seem to be able to work around it.  I will see how it goes in the pool today with my 10 year old (who has gills), and will have my official YMCA weekly weigh in.  Good news is over 200 lbs and still around 12% body fat.  Maybe with the now smoking a bulkin phase might be timely.  I feel great, now to fix the rest of my life!

8 Weeks no cigs, my brain is coming back

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Thanks to all the no smoking well wishers.  I am getting better, the senior moments still happen but with less frequency and I would love a cig… but that is not going to happen.

It was a kick langing in Newark after a 5 hour flight and not immediately heading outside to have a smoke like it was the most important thing on the planet.  That’s done!

6×6 going well, weight is up to 200lbs, bf still at 12 (solid "6" on the scale).  I feel good. Did 20 minutes worth of pool laps (with a 7 year old hangin on to me) yesterday and had some pool playtime with the kids. All good.  I can dive again … holding my breath is coming quite easily.

The 6×6 is resulting in consistent personal bests.  I had a little forced rest last week with travel, so I’m looking forward to kicking it.  I have also added on the ball speed push ups every second morning, 3 sets of 25.  Chest is coming in

6×6 is sweet, 7 weeks without smokes

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I have frequent dreams about cigarettes.  I wake feeling guilty … like i threw the time and pain of quitting away, and then suddenly think … "keeey rist, it was just a dream"! So the dreams are still odd, but not the technocolor, over the top weirdness that they were a few weeks ago.  Thank god.

I am still doing "Mass Attack" and it is working.  BF came down a lil bit, strength continues to climbs and every week is a new pb for bench or legs.  I think the progress picks show some improvement and I’ve gotten nice comments from on wearing red … not that there is anything wrong with that…

I know that full body 3x a week might seem a little bland at first, but i def think i will keep it up for awhile and then have a rest and start it all over again and add and subtract some more focussed stuff.  Its hard to argue that 45 minutes you are doing and you really know you have worked.  Sleep has been great on this program!

To all that wished me well on the smokin thing, thanks again, I won’t let you (or me) down. Best Rob.

Like 6×6, and 6 weeks without cigarettes

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Title says most of it but Im happy to say that the personal best lifts keep coming and I’m still off the smokes.  Swimming yesterday was excellent, good laps, good breathing and everything works pretty well.  I did get a rotator "warning" and cut back.

Thank to all who well wished on the the no smokes.  You have made it easier, cus i just couldn’t let Suds, Mojo and BBD down!  I see the doc thursday about the A.D.D. and agree on some trial of treatment.  Bigggest surprise of not smoking is realizing the ADD was back and I really hadnt noticed it because them I got disctracted I went for a smoke.  Now I’m realizing i was getting distracted … well there are worse things to realize!

Benched my weight … increased bench by not smoking?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I finally benched 200+ pounds.  Infact i repped 200 3 times and pyramid down to 180 for 5. This is a 20 pound improvement for me in two weeks.  Mass Attack and 5×5 really seem to agree with me.

And I could eat a freakin horse right now … my god i was stuck in the car coming out of Manhattan today and by the time I got home I was dyin.  And I had a 23 gram bar during the drive! This is a killah workout!

Week 5, No Smokin!

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Made it another week.  2 house parties with family … and a 12 hour drive with 2 children.  But I made it.  However, lesser evil is the food available wasnt the bst and ate stuff i havent had in ages and ages.  Pizza twice (I know, the horror!) and a couple of fast food drive by’s.  I should have planned better.  I will burn it off this week.

Still doing MASS ATTACK and it is workng.  I am getting bigger.  I have also tweaked my protien upwards and I believe that is helping.  I think the pics are looking better and the change is definately visible within the week.

Thanks to all the ex smokers out there helping me through this.  It making a huge difference, I don’t want to disappoint you!

4 Weeks of not smoking

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I made 4 weeks.  Yea me.  However, the pangs are still kinda nasty and frequent.  I’m hoping they subside soon.  Everything else seems to be coming back to "normal", concentration, seeing things that aren’t there, you know the drill.

The Mass Attack workout is good and I start week 2 tmrw.  Had a good swim today with my son, empty pool at the Y.  All good.
