Back in Japan Again

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Back in the Orient once again.  A short trip that got started with a 4 hour delay at JFK on the tarmac just to add insult to injury on a 13 hour flight.

I got my sleepy self up at 445 to hit their gym which for a hotel is better then OK. Did supersets for bi/tri/shoulders and called it a morning, came back for cadio at night.

Second day I i did the "quadzilla" workout which is high reps of presses, extensions, swats and lunges.

Will return home tmrw and hopefully get back on track.

Important thing is I am finally growing.  Inches on my arms and quads and the waist has remained the same.  What a wonderful feeling.  I think what is working for me is higher reps, good rest and good sleep.  I have increased my cals but primarily eating clean.  So the key is slow and steady, stimulate don’t annahilate!

I had a physical this week and after almost exactly a year into this adventure, I have lost 23 pounds and my resting heartbeat is 54 beats per minute.  Blood pressure is 120/80 which is down nicely and I am waiting for bloodwork for the rest.  I feel great and I owe almost all of it to quitting drinking and changing my life style considerable.  And to 2 a days!

Japan Trip and Metric Lifting

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Just returned from a week in Japan.  I went over with 4 other collegues that don’t know what to make of my fitness habits. They all joined me … only once for a morning workout. Oh well, at least they came once.

Japan is a very liquor centric culture, ever dinner starts off with a toast and you pour eachothers drinks till the meal ends.  I no longer imbibe so it’s an immiedate problem - for them.  After being told how good beer is for me after a tough day and it being poured for you regardless of your wishes, it makes for a difficult and somewhat insulting turn down. On the second day there I simply said I’m on meds and can’t drink.  That worked much better. Lesson learned.

I stayed at a Hilton in Tokyo so I could have access to a Gym.  I’m quite proud I kept my commitment and went everyday for an hour of lifting and short cardio.  Managed to get in a 4 good workouts.  What I did find was that I had the best quality sleep and personal "wakefullness" of any trip I have done to Asia, which I do 3-4 times a year. Another lesson learned. This trip usually is very taxing, but the regiment gave me an edge I haven’t had before and only hinted at last January.  A new and welcome weapon in the war that is business!

Managed a very good chest set in the garage yesterday, doing 65lb dumbells for flat and 50’s for elevated bench.  Finished off with a light set of pullovers and elevated flys.  Tmrw morning will be back in the work gym for cardio and I’ve already got a call to spot a friend who’s wants to increase her weights. Who in their right mind could turn that down! She’s on that M+F shredder program and really lookin great.

I’m looking for a little chest and arm mass. (Yeah like all my life) and will throttle back the cardio a little and try to up the protien and weights some. I will also try to avoid the "how much can you bench mistake". Wish me luck!

Best Rob
