How many calories?

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I had been eating between 1700-2200 calories depending on workouts and hunger level but found that that is only maintaining my weight. I haven’t noticed any major fat loss even though it’s tough to tell on yourself.  I know I have to cut my calories down but I’m not sure to what.  The people on The Biggest Loser eat 1200 cals and that seems like too few for when working out.  Can anyone help?  I want to give my body enough fuel that it burns fat readily. I’m 5′5′’ and currently weigh 132lbs.

Back to Work!

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

I’m feeling WAY better than I was earlier this week and am back to my workout schedule.  I felt guilty about taking 3 days off but it was so good for my muscles.  I think they had time to rest and repair because now I feel great. I’m looking forward to switching up my routine next week because I’m starting to get bored with the same rotaion of workouts. I’m off to do an hour and a half of yoga…

Can Chronic Illness and Working Out Mix?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

I did awesome for 2 weeks. I ate well, worked out everyday and felt great.  All was fine and then BAM!  Crohn’s’ Disease hit me (again) and all I’ve wanted to do for the past 3 days is curl up in a little ball or sleep.  I went to the doctor today and got some meds that should help but I’m not sure whether I should workout today.  I’ve had 2 days off and it usually makes me feel better but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea.

Does anyone else deal with chronic medical issues and how do you handle it where workouts are concerned?

too MUCH protein?!?

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

I’ve been tracking everything I eat on the daily plate at Livestrong.com for the past 2 weeks.  I eat throughout the day when I’m hungry and my focus has been to get quality fuel, not losing weight. (I’m doing P90X.) I’ve stayed the same weight but muscle has increased so I’m trying to figure out if I’m eating the right amount to get lean while building muscle. I range from 1700 to 2100 calories per day, I’m 5′5′’ and weight about 132 pounds.

In addition to the total calories I’ve also had people tell me I’m eating too much protein.  I average from 100-130 grams per day.  Can anyone advise me or direct me to some resources to figure out a good balance of carbs, protein, and fats?

Week 1 is toast

Monday, April 6th, 2009

So I made it through week 1 of P90X. (Whoo-hoo!) I was more worried about juggling my schedule than the workouts themselves since I work full-time and take accelerated online classes, but I made it.

I started taking a scivation xtend recovery drink today which was awesome during my tough cardio. Tomorrow I start bsn astro-phex.

I love seeing all my peeps on bodyspace that have jobs, families, and responsibilities and still look so awesome. You guys are badass! Thanks for your support.

Munchies

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

I think I have the Sunday-night-munchies. Ugh! I’m writing this to keep from eating what I shouldn’t be. I don’t think it helped that I didn’t sit down and eat dinner, just snacking. At least it was on things like green beans, a potato, and tuna. The problem is that I can’t tell if my body really needs more fuel or if it’s just trying to sabotage me!

“I don’t have time.”

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

I hear it everyday and used to be guilty of it myself but it’s a lie we tell ourselves. We all have time, 24 hours in fact. We each get the same number of hours everyday to do with what we choose. What people are really saying when they use this line is that it is not a priority for them. When something matters to you you will do it. I’m not saying it should be a priority for everyone or that the prioities of others are not meaningful. I’m just tired of hearing this one, mostly from people who can tell me what happened on the latest episode of last night’s tv shows. Seriously- you have time.

I am what I eat

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

I’ve been tracking every single thing I eat to make sure my protein and carbs are well balanced.  I feel so good physically because I’m properly fuling my body and mentally because I can see what I’m eating and adjust where I need to.

Day 2

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I can tell I’m burning more calories because I just ate a protein bar and a can of tuna 15 minutes ago and I’m still hungry again.  Got to finish up homework and go make some eggs.
