new toys

October 21, 2007

I’ve been making good progress in the past weeks, especially my dips look a lot better now. And finally I’ve managed to solve a problem that has bugged me for quite a while.
Until recently I only had access to rather heavy plates for 50mm hole barbells. So I rather was hopping forth and back than progressing slowly. However, last week I found a nice training set with plates from 0.5kg to 2.5kg - they’re plastic-coated in the funny colors of Olympic weightlifting plates. Hello fine grained progress.
Have a nice week everyone!

Week #7

August 15, 2007

Great workouts - I’m using squat shoes and chalk now! :)

From the regular exercises, deadlifting and overhead press feel the hardest. However, chalk helps a lot with the grip. From the additional exercises, dips are the hardest. I can’t go quite as deep as I should, but I keep working on that.

Weeks #5 and #6

August 8, 2007

Good workouts. From my core muscles, I guess my obliques must be relatively weaker than the rest, at least that’s how they feel after squatting ;)

I ordered squat shoes - I hope they’ll arrive this week. Oh, and chalk! Wohoo!

Week #4

July 27, 2007

The weather was crazy hot all week, and I somewhat lacked motivation. Nevertheless, I continued to fool around, improved exercise form, and found out that especially my middle back and lats appear to have gained strength in the previous three weeks.

At last, the books I ordered have arrived! Starting Strength and Practical Programming! Hooray! It’s most interesting to see how much I need to improve in barbell exercise form. Oh, and I’ve moved "purchase a pair of squat shoes" to the top of my list.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Workout A #3

Squat:    3×5 80 kg

Bench:    3×5 50 kg
Deadlift:    1×5 90 kg

Dips:    2×2 BW

Great workout, but I’m not completely happy with my form. I should spend some time to improve it before I start piling up greater weights.

Squat:    3×5 70 kg
Starts feeling like working sets. I guess I’ll increase less rapidly.

Workout B #1

July 7, 2007

"The horrible rain!"

Front squat:    3×5 45 kg

Overhead press:    4/2/3 45 kg
Me greedy bastard! Even at 4 reps that’s a PR. I’m all happy I managed to do a couple of reps. Better add weight less rapidly.

Power clean:    5×3 52.5 kg
