To all the runners out there, I’m having a rough time……………….

I started running about 5 wks. ago. Mostly I run on the treadmill but a couple times a week I run outside on the blacktop which is very hard for me. My right leg has started hurting and the past week it’s been getting worse. Monday I did my first double run… 3.1 miles in morning and then the 3.1 miles in the evening. Tues. I rested and yesterday I did a 5k on the treadmill again. Today the leg is really aching. It feels like the bone is aching between my knee and ankle. Is this normal for a new runner? I am thinking of not running today. It hurts more and I am limping more. I am afraid if it gets much worse I won’t be able to walk on it. It’s especially hard when I get out of bed or have been sitting. Stretching seemed to soothe it a little yesterday but it’s really sore again today. Do any runners have any suggestions for me? I am trying to loose about 20 more pounds and I really need the cardio. My first 5k is in a little over 2 wks. and I really want to do it, even if I don’t do it fast. Should I keep trying to run everyday or cut back to every other day? Is doing other types of cardio helpful? I tried taking a pain reliever before I ran yesterday but I could still feel the soreness in the leg while I ran. I was limping on it slightly afterwards while I did my weights. Any info would be appreciated. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I am working hard and slowly moving forward. I have lost 8 lbs. since I started on this website. But I have been working out very hard, sometimes 3 hours a day! I want to visit Gold\’s Gym this week and check out their program. I need someone guiding me to a good bodybuilding program for me and to teach me how to eat in order to loose weight AND build muscle. But I am excited to get started on this new body!!!

I have joined Gold’s Gym. I really like it. There are a couple of them in my area but the one closest to my house is the best. I had my 2nd session with a personal trainer today. He’s putting my bodybuilding program together for me. The first day I only got 3 exercises for my shoulders and upper arms and felt a little disappointed but today he gave me about 10 exercises for legs and abs and some arms too. I could feel the burn today. I feel better and am anxious to see the last day of my bodybuilding workout. I think I am going to be really happy once I get comfortable with my workout and start to see my body changing. So far I am only using the treadmill for cardio but I plan on trying other equipment so that I can mix it up. I am really happy with my new gym and am anxious to see the results further down the road.

It has been a long time since I’ve been on here. I have been at Gold’s Gym since April 2007. My weight went back up over the summer and I gained about 10 lbs. My trainer helped me get that back off and a few more. My lowest weight has been 128 lbs. Right now I am up a bit - hopefully some is muscle, but I know some of it is also HOLIDAYS! I am about 134 lbs. I was asked by my trainer to join his team and become a competitive body builder. I have fallen in love with the weight training and watching everyone build muscle as they loose the excess weight. (Especially me!) I have definitely gotten stronger. It was quite a thrill to be asked to be on team since I am 47 yrs. old. I’m in better shape now then when I was in my 30’s. My arms are getting bigger. My stomach and sides are still too loose and they are going to be my biggest challenge. Although I have been killing the abs, the change in them is slow. I won’t give up though. I want my 6-pack more than ever. So I hope to train all year with my trainer who is awesome! And I look forward to more definition, and loosing the rest of the extra pounds. I’ll need to be serious about my diet also and keep eating healthy. That’s all for now. Good luck to everyone working out in 2008. And may we all work hard and reach our goals!
