bored at work

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

just bored, wanted to say hi to everyone.  gotta keep reminding myself that until i launch my business, this job i have pays the bills. my new friend called me today, shes excited because i am taking her to her first ever usc football game this year.  that is, unless she decides against me LOL.  but i dont see that happening.  also looks like we are going to the hollywood bowl to see big bad voodoo daddy. havent seen them in years.

I have still been doing the boxing three nights a week.  I forgot how much i loved it.  I was sparring with someon the other day and he told me to go all out.  I didnt but i still busted his ribs pretty bad.  Ooops! guess he shouldve remembered my fights when i was younger.

I miss my mom.  I havent spoken to her in about 6 years due to my inability to repsect her and her life’s choices.  I guess i should call her sometime, but there is that whole pride issue. Well, i am working on it.

I really enjoy reading other people’s blogs, especially msfitness, and maddi, the first one because you can totally feel her joy, frustration, determination, etc. and it is very admirable and repsectable.  Maddi, is just hilarious.  i love her point of view on a lot of things in life.  plus, she has come a long, long way.

Tonight, ive got chicken soaking in mustard and beer to be grilled up when i get home and served with some couscous.  Should be pretty tasty.

Well, just wanted to write down more "random thoughts"

shoulders 7/31/07

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Today was shoulders and i did something I normally dont do, I cycled through my exercises but i didnt necessarily superset. in other words, i did 1 set of seated dumbbell presses, rested 30 seconds, a sets of side laterals, rested, bent over laterals, rested, DB shrugs, rested and then did the cycle again.  i did this 5 times and it gave me a wicked pump.  i finished off with some reverse pec deck sets and was done! anyway, its shoulders, boring, pretty short and sweet.

Buffalo

Monday, July 30th, 2007

MMMMMM. tonight i am making some ranch Buffalo burgers. I dont know if anyone else out there likes this stuff but its leaner than most cuts of beef, it is illegal to give hormones to buffalo, and it tastes great.  If you do buy it, be sure not to buy the premade packages at places like trader joes. they are disgusting. just get the ground stuff and form it yourself. I no longer buy any type of ground beef, only buffalo.  As for steaks, mine still come from a cow.

Basically i use ground buffalo by adding spices to it, fomring pastties and making three or four meals at a time:

2 patties seasoned with ranch dressing mix (maltodextrin, ewwww) served with some wild rice

or

2 patties seasoned with cayenne pepper, garlic and basil served with a side of broccoli

or

2 patties that were soaked in red wine and garlic, and have some crumbled bleu cheese inside.  (cheat meal) served with a small salad.

Basically i shoot for the meals to be around 5-600 calories and 40 or more grams of protein.

Mondays back workout

Monday, July 30th, 2007

So this morning was back and tris.  every monday, back and tris.  Well i tried something a little different today, just to throw off some staleness.  Plus, for those who read my blogs, i have something new to help motivate so i had some extra energy.  So today instead of doing straightsets, i supersetted but for the different body parts.

For instance, Barbell rows were supersetted with close grip benches, followed by pulldowns supersetted with pushdowns, cable rows supersetted with overhead cable extensions with the rope, and lastly one major set of 25 dips. the form on the dips was probably not too god, but after the thrashing i had given my tris im sure they were still getting some stimuli.

Tonight: CARDIO! Just like every other night.  45 minutes on the bike

am i jumping the gun?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

I know i talk about relationships on here just as much as i do about training, nutrition, etc. but I dont care its my blog if you dont like it dont read it! :-)

I met this woman the other day and for the first time in YEARS, I felt nervous. almost teenager-ish. Its awesome.  Hmmmm how to describe her? How about jamie eason but attainable? And I even showed her my bodyspace and she didnt judge me by my size at all! In fact, she just thought it was cool and wants to see me achieve my goals.

Anyway, I am not letting my feelings get out of control and am actually just really excited to get to know this great person, literally a great person, someone who loves/works with animals but isnt a vegan, some  one who doesnt judge me by my finances or looks (pretty amazing considering this is L.A.) and who is seriously a "funpack" as she would like to be described.  It was really weird because of the things we had in common.  I have been considering moving to Texas to start my training business, and its really wierd she has considered it also.  Ok no more sharing, just had to tell the world that this woman, whether it works out or not between us, is an absolute amazingly beautiful inside and out person and deserves the world.  Hopefully i can give it to her.

Been quiet

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

I’ve been quiet for the past week.  Had some things that have occupied more of my time than normal.  Of course one would be a woman i started to see and then realized we are on two very different paths in life.  I want to LIVE life, and she is waiting to die basically (i.e. sitting on a couch, eating out all the time, etc)  So unfortunately we wouldnt have worked out.

Speaking of working out, had a great one this weekend on my chest day.  My chest is probably my worst bodypart as far as growing muscle is concerned.  I have to be very very very careful to use my pecs to move the weight and not let my shoulders or tris take over.  Of course, training alone is also something of a hindrance, especially with the chest.  Something about not being able to drop the bar except on yourself is sort of scary!

I hope everyone who reads my blogs is doing great.  I am so glad that I have been working on myself both inside and out lately and am able to catch myself whenever i allow negative self talk enter my brain.  For instance, the other day i went on a jog up this mountain trail and i am not lying within 3 minutes i felt my lungs screaming!  But my heart rate was fine, and my legs were of course, just warming up.  So i kept going.  I made sure to breathe wuick, shorts bursts through my nose and out my mouth.  I concentrated on my footsteps in the dirt, left, right, left right.  I made sure that my head was up and i was noticing how fast the world was passing by me as I realized i wasnt jogging anymore, but i was running, almost jumping from boulder to boulder, enjoying the heat of the sun conflicting with the cool breeze off the hill, and my sweat was forcingitself out only to be instantly evaporated off of my skin.

This was one killer cardio experience.  When I did reach the top, I took some water out of my back pack and some gum to chew to keep my mouth moist, and just concentrated on breathing.  Letting air rush in through my nostrils, and then echaling through my mout to allow myself to relax and catch my breath, i was a little dizzy, Started to feel a bit weak in the upper body, but the view was incredible!

Anyway, just wanted to drop a note while i have some time, and i promise i will be on here more often in the coming days/weeks.

Cheat day worked!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Ok so i had the homemade cheeseburger yesterday and even mixed some of my step brothers hersheys chocolate syrup in with my late night cottage cheese shake and you know what? this morning for my shoulder workout i could feel the difference.  I was not as moody all day and of course the scale didnt go up over one day, so i am going to assume that it was all for the best. Thanks to everyone who comments on my blogs and just want to wish everyone a great day!

Wednesdays are usually a non lifting day for me and i do two cardio sessions instead.  I am going to take advantage of the sunlight provided by these summer hours and try to jog up a hiking trail to mt whitney tomorrow before work. That should burn some calories! Maybe when i get down to around 240ish i will take my progress pictures from there. Until then, they will contiunue to be done in the kitchen LOL.

Total Cheat day

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Well today at my weigh in i have dropped to 297 from last weeks 299.  Two pounds. I know, I know.  Thats the healthy weight loss.  So i checked my BF%, etc. it was fat that I lost, but I was actually excited that I didnt drop too much weight because it allowed me to do something today that I havent done in 4 weeks!  CHEAT.

I stiall ate healthy today, I just had a little more with my food. for instance, I hade a cheeseburger (homemade) for lunch today instead of a plain patty with rice and broccoli.  I am having an omelette tonight for dinner with strips of steak, onions, and cheese.  I am doing this in the hopes that the extra calories will kick up the thyroid a little bit and see if the weight comes off a little easier the next couple of weeks.  Also, this morning, my workout was really lagging and thats always my best indicator.  As strength drops during a diet, its time to up the calories a bit to feed my body.

Well, I hope everyone has a great day/night

bored at work

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Geez, Sundays are not a great day to work.  I am by no means complaining, but it is a little bit of tease to know that other people are out at BBQs, the beach, etc.  Has anyone else figured out that this lifestyle is sort of a loner-ish type of thing?  I mean if you have a sig other who also lives the lifestyle you are very lucky. But if you are single, then it does put a damper on the relationship building.  I personally have cut off my dating while I transform my body, but I wouldnt mind having someone to just kick back with after work on my sunday.  I mean, i get off at 4, then head to the gym for cardio (nothing else to do). then go home, prepare my meals for monday and tuesday, and then kill 3 hours or so before bed.

Argh! just frustrating.  I guess you start missing the little things about a real relationship you know? the smile when they see you come home, the little kiss before heading to work, the pajamas until noon on a lazy sunday (obviously not a workout day).

Ok enough complaining.  Not looking for any responses to this blog.  It is just a releaseof feelings from my rather romantic, and affectionate side.  ok, back to concentrating on my goals!, cardio here i come… well in 2 and a half more hours at least. :-)

my nutrition the past couple of days

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Well, I have sort of shuffled around a few things in my nutrition.  I used to eat like this:

7-1 protein shake w/ water and oj, 290 cals, 48 g pro

8-egg whites and ezekiel toast, 280 cals, 34g pro

10- pro shake with water, 240, 48

12- 1/2 oz. almonds, 85,3

1- whatever meant and veggie dish i made, about 325 cals, 30 g pro, and emerald balance, 40 cal

3- pro shake, 240 cal, 48 g protein

5- proshake, 240,48

7 dinner, again, whatever meat veggie combo i had, 325, 30

830- post evening cardio- cottage cheese "shake", 340 cal, 47 g protein

Totals: 2405 calories, sometimes more if i felt the need to stimulate the metabolism. 336 g of protein

I am changing this the past week and i have felt not only like I can feel myself getting leaner, but that I have more energy throughout the day. The change i made was simple.  I eat dinner at breakfast and breakfast at dinner.  So lets say i had a 400-500 calorie meal that most people would eat at dinner.  I just moved that to my morning meal, allowing me all day to burn off the calories and letting the fiber in whatever veggies/beans/legumes, i had with it do its thing all day, and 2. it lets my breakfast (egg whites, some veggies sometimes, and ezekiel toast) burn off efficiently with my evening cardio.  I know its not "conventional", but hey, neither is eating 6-8 times a day.  Conventional wisdom is for FAT people!  Maybe its just that this nutrient timing works better for me, or maybe its that it allows me to feel less guilty if i want to eat a piece of fruit in the morning, etc. Either way, my sleep patterns are better, my energy levels throughout the day are high, and there are no more cravings for sweets, etc. since I ate my heaver meals earlier in the day.
