The Magical Wonder of Mirrors

February 13, 2008

Well first, let me set the scene. I work on an offshore oil drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico, about 150 miles from the nearest shoreline. So, to say that resources are somewhat limited would be an understatement. However, we do have a small gym on board that is about the size of a small living room. It has all the basics that anyone would need to properly workout, we have a smith rack, a small universal cable machine, two adjustable benches, dumbbells, treadmill, and elliptical trainer, everything you need to workout right…..wrong, we have no mirrors at all. I am not a vain person but after a hard two weeks of slinging iron in the gym at home, which is full of mirrors, and just finishing my first workout back here at work I have come to realize how important mirrors truly are. I do not have delts like Arnold, but during a set of military presses in front of the mirror, I am Arnold. I do not have quads like Dorian, but while pushing out that last rep of squats, looking in the mirror, I am Dorian. I surely don’t have biceps like Ronnie Coleman, but doing curls watching my form closely in the mirror that Ronnie’s bicep tape wouldn’t wrap around mine. So, I have come to realize just how important mirrors can be, and I figured it out if I can bring out 1 mirror every month to work that will fit in my duffel bag, and in roughly 3 years I can be Arnold again while I am at work. Mainly this blog was for….well the one person that may actually read it to find out if anyone depends on mirrors as much as I have while working out. Thanks for reading.

First month down

February 12, 2008

Well, I finally finished my first month of getting back to the good old fashioned art of slinging iron. First, I would like to thank everybody on here that helped me out and kept me motivated, it is much appreciated.  As far as the training goes I haven’t dropped much weight yet, and I stress yet, but feeling leaner and have lost a few inches off various body parts.  Most important I am feeling stronger than I have in years, almost like an animal. I am feeling really good about the amount of weight I am able to throw, other than my dead lift which is all in my mind because of an injury when I use to wrestle in school a long time ago and hurt my back doing dead lifts. I have developed a new goal that has burned at me for sometime, well since about two years ago before my shoulder injury put me on the bench.  I was in good shape then and was studying to become a personal trainer/strength coach, but after my injury and started gaining weight, got down and realized nobody wants a trainer who is out of shape.  I feel that passion once again to reach for that goal, get in the best possible shape I can to allow me to help other people with their weight issues and motivation. Well once again a big thanks to everyone for the motivation and support and helping me get my mind and body back where it needs to be.

So Many Choices

January 16, 2008

Need to improve my flexibility, and was looking into yoga.  I was doing some research on yoga and to my suprise, their is about fifteen different styles which all say they are they best. So here is the question, Which style of yoga is best for a beginner?

Thanks for any and all help.

Back in the saddle

January 14, 2008

Well, just getting started on here so to start I have gained and loss more wait then Oprah And Aaron Neville combined. I usually lose pounds fast and gain muscle fast as well, but staying motivated has been hardest part…well that and nutrition. I have gained 40 lbs since shoulder injury put me on the workout sidelines, but shoulder feeling good again and ready to get back to it and more serious then ever. I am looking forward to learning all I can about nutrition from anyone willing to help. I would also like to learn more about yoga and other forms or training. Thanks for reading
