Motivation

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

A good friend of mine came to see me over the weekend. We’ve known each other since college. His vice of choice was Mountain Dew and any Budwieser product. At 25 years old he proclaimed himself as "Middle-aged Man", a fat, balding character from a 1990s SNL skit. Well, let me tell you, he is "Middle-aged Man" no longer. In the last two years, he has stopped drinking pop and beer. He eats healthy,  exercises daily and is a size 32 in the waist. And I am now "Middle-aged Man."

He has become my motivation. I am on day 2 of the 12-week Trainer.
I’m tired of being fat.

Reboot: Week 3

Monday, December 8th, 2008

So far, so good. I’m getting up early and doing my cardio (which I could not manage to do before). I’m sticking to my meals and adjusting as needed. And definatly getting my weight training in at night. If I keep this up I may see my ultimate goal of  190 lbs by mid february (realistically, I’m expecting to see 210 lbs). But a goal is a goal, so 190 lbs it is. I think my success will lie in the cardio and meal plan. I didn’t have these two areas nailed down before and I feel good about them this time. One of my co-workers, who is a vegetarian we call "The Grazer," is beginning to congratulate me on a few of my meal choices. The new healthy me takes it as a complement but the old carnivore in me is insulted. Oh well.

See you next week

Reboot!

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Well, I’m at it again. Earlier in the year I set a goal and met it. I lost 15 lbs, my clothes were looser and i felt good about myself.  Somewhere between then and now, I lost my unadulterated mind! I’ve taken back 10 of the lbs that I gave up, I’m feeling sluggish… 2009 is the year I turn 40 and I refuse to fall into it like a lump of dirt.

Yesterday was day one of my new 12 week program and I did pretty well. Cardio in the morning, strict meals day and evening and worked out in the evening. I feel good. The first day is always the hardest and I was looking forward to it. The healthier me is coming back. This time, I’m not going to let up like before.

Wish me luck. PEACE

4 weeks in

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

It has been awhile since I have posted on BB. I was disappointed in the results from my last program, as well as my level of participation. So, I re-evaluated everything -workout, meals, cardio- everything. After 4 weeks, I’m feeling better. I’m on the last loop of my belt and am currently searching for a smaller size. That is a huge accomplishment for me. I even have my wife picking up the medicine ball now.
I figured I was trying to do too much and was wearing myself out. So I lift 3x a week and do cardio, alternately, 3x a week.  I’ve got two months left before the BIG family vacation.

Wish me luck.

And the winner is…

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Well, after my 12 week program… it wasn’t me. I will admit, my dedication was not the best. After 6 weeks my weight was the same. That was a bit disheartening. My motivation changed after that. My meals were consistant but my exercise became sporatic and i couldn’t stay on course.

I don’t have measurements yet so I will post them tomorrow.
I’m not very happy right now.

2 Minute Warning

Friday, March 14th, 2008

I’ll be starting my last two weeks Sunday.
On the down-side, I’m not happy with the results. Although, I have had some week moments…days, I have pretty much stuck to the food regime. It felt good, but I’m not sure that it worked well. My weight stayed relatively the same. And I absolutly do not want to use a fat-burner.

Meal 1: 2 scoops of ON whey protein
Meal 2: Egg whites and a pack of oatmeal
Meal 3: Spinach and tuna
Meal 4: Brown rice and fish (whiting, cod, salman or tuna steak)
Meal 5: 2 Scoops of ON whey protein, protein peanut butter and oatmeal
Meal 6: Veggies and chicken breast, Steak or Turkey
Meal 7: 2 scoops of ON whey protein

Since I increased my cardio and working out at lunch, I would skip meal 3 and merge it with meal 4. I lift in the afternoon or evening.

On the up-side, I do feel like I lost inches in my gut. My legs, chest and arms are tight. I feel more energetic (my wife is in trouble now).

So I’m be able to carry these positives into the next program. I am going to be more strict with my meals. Meal 6 was always the most difficult. 2-5 were all at work, eating with the family became stressfull. the foods they were eating versus my meal.

I guess they are all "building blocks to good health."

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Cardio, Cardio, Cardio

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I must increase my cardio. I thought the three miles I walk back and forth to work would be enough. I was wrong. Monday I started doing 20 minutes on the eliptical machine before work. And catch up on a few shows I missed. I had a PT back in 2000 that had me do cardio every morning. I recall it being easier to get out of bed back then. Not that the 17 degree morning tempertures make it any easier.

I’m trying to do this without the fat burners, so if this steps up my weightloss… sweeeet.

Birthday Wishes & The Half Way Mark

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I started week 7 on Sunday, my 39th birthday. Happy Birthday to me! Needless to say it was a throw-away day. I had good intentions but… oh well.

I can see that the gut is shrinking now and I feel re-energized for the last six weeks of this program. I will try to post images tommorrow.

Week 4

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I am DEEP in the trenches right now. I am fighting the urges not to work out and they are winning (with the help of work). I’ve been TRYING to get up at 5:15a to go workout at 6, but the last two weeks have been filled with 13hr days, weekend work and family commitments. Add to that, I think my workouts may be a bit boring. Maybe I should change up my routine a bit, make it more fun. This is going to require some thought.

Otherwise, the nutrition is good. I have stuck to my meal plans pretty well. I eat two tuna meals and two shakes at work and two meals with chicken and eggs at home. Cardio, I walk, back and forth, to the train Mon-Fri. It takes me 35 min each way and that is a relatively a fast pace. Sometimes it is like doing a HIT circuit when you have to walk through the flow of people going home/work.

The wife helped me bring in our old eliptical machine from the garage. I’m thinking about adding in another 45 min of cardio. I NEED TO STAY MOTIVATED AND CUT THE FAT. We shall see.

Monsters and my Back

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Although the day started off not so good (my son saw monsters, that only I could get rid of, in his room every hour of the night). So, I didn’t wake up and workout as planned. But I was able to stick to my meal plan and get my wo done when I got home.

Today was back day! It felt great to finally get the muscles pumping again. I’m kinda looking forword to the soreness just to remind me of what I did. I did 3 sets of 15, with light weight and 30sec rest in between sets.

I also started taking Animal Pak and Fast Twitch, so I’ll see how they work for me in 12 weeks.

DAY 1 IS IN THE BOOKS

Peace
