Working too Hard?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

I climbed on the cycle after 4 sets of chest work and abs and low and behold the pulse monitor said 147 BPM.  Amazing, I thought that can’t be right so first thing I do is palpate the carotid pulse and sure enough.  I recognize this issue.  I had very little carbs yesterday and I am assuming the body was working hard to translate fat into energy as quick as it could.  But all that for sure, I need to make sure I get enough protein or just take my waxy maize(corn starch) with me and eat a little more carbs. I did not even really feel any change in my chest like thumping wildly or anything of that nature.  At my tender age I just decided to go slow and easy on the cycle and it dropped to 126 by the end of the cycling.  Of course I was aiming for fat burning but it looks like I got some cardio.  I guess those plate bunnies have a little more psychogentic power than I thought.  The elbows are exacting a price too.  Sore but scale 3/10 so not too bad.  Nothing Ibuprofen can’t conquer.

Bench day.  The foundation (besides squats and deadlifts) for the lifting officinado.  Every other techniques is gravy or frosty depending on what you are eating.  The triceps might be resisting today though after their super duty workout on Monday.  Work, getting in the way late, kept me out of the gym yesterday.( That’s rude, right Shannon?)  I also am encouraging others to lift as well and become beef instead of stale marshmallows.  Debi, I used your pictures as an example for a female collegue.  She was summarily impressed. So 1trapman and I will go scare people with our freaky lifting abilities.  Or at least raise some chuckles.  Having a lifting buddy is great.  That last rep when only your mind is lifting is the gold point, where the most returns to muscle mass come from.  What?  You think santa Claus brought those muscles to you.  OK, your parents, God, the "Universe" whatever.  You have them so use them.  I will.

Rythym

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6zdhHLvT7k  Cut and paste if the link does not work!

If the link does not work this is Disturbia from Rihanna.  Check out the beast of a drummer.  Looks like a freakin’ built power lifter.  Who is that?  So getting into the swing of lifting or cardio I added this song to my workout.  If I hit a hard set I hit this song and something in my brain clicks high gear and up go the weights and the success of the workout.  Also helps with the cardio rythym.  In life there is always a rythym and lifting is part of the movement of life.  The Taoists understood all the complex rythyms in life and utilized them for the benefit of others and themselves.  Find your rythym today and aid your workouts.

Muscle Confusion and how much did I really lift.

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Going between different gyms can be both beneficial and frustrating.  For instance one calf machine 210 lbs in the 5×5.  Switch gyms 540 lbs 10×5?  What gives.  Totally weird either I am confused or I have different strength abilities at different gyms or the "Chi" is better at one place than another.  Regardless, the calves were totally confused because this morning they told me in no uncertain terms they had been shot with a .44 Magnum.  I hobbled for 2 hours before they loosened up and I advanced from Cromagnon to Neadrethal!  Thank God for arm day today.  It was hard enough wandering the gym between sets and then doing the cycle.  But am I whining?  No, I just like to provide humurous anecdotes.  Hope you enjoy the rant.

Survival

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Thanksgiving is past.  I hope we all remembered to be thankful for what we had…the basics, food, shelter, clothing and lifting.  I know I am.  Now outside of that family, friends.  Is there really much more than that?  Oh yeah, pictures of scantilly clad women who help stir the fire that motivate me towards the gym.  The poor lifters at the gym also motivate me to focus on my technique as well.  I encourage those that are open or approach me but for the most part I find the non-serious lifter to be very defensive.  You would think these people would be sponges for knowledge.  Unfortunately they did not come with an "empty teacup."  Too bad or they could have focused more on what would work instead of bumbling around for a year before they get the picture.  Anyway I continue to celebrate and give a shout out to my lifting Divs who keep me going; Debi, Nicole and Toni.  For technique cudos go to Adam and Rudy.  I am Thankful fo you guys for the progress I have made.

Today its triceps and something else I am forgetting.  Oh well….
