Sore Day

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Post-Chest workout-I think I just had implants put in-man are the pecs sore.  The Isolateral pull downs are deadly not to mention the lying pec flys.  However, the soreness must be tolerated if I ever want to get to a B-cup.  I noticed my body really likes the rest period between pec day.  I consistently gain 5-10 lbs per week.  Yet again I go up to working out with 250 and I do not think I look that big.  I have noticed though it is really hard to judge what you look like because you see yourself in the mirror everyday.  Friends that have not seen you in awhile or family are really good at assessing growth.  Today starts the carving of some calories as I notch up the cardio and hit the abs harder.  Not that I want to but that I have to.  Otherwise I will look like the Sta-Puff marshmallow man.  Happy lifting y’all.

Mental State

Friday, May 18th, 2007

There are days when I dread going to the gym.  Like today.  Leg day.  I think my heart is going to explode after legs presses and my ass hurts.  Plus I feel like its Sunday morning in the brothel.  Ouch.  Oh well.  Does anyone else’s knees shake when they are finishing the last set of a stiff leg deadlift?  What do you do for it?  I actually save the last 2 exercises as sit down-lateral shoulder raise and leg lifts.  That way I actually feel like I am resting!  Progress continues and when I look back I started with 120 lbs bench to workout.  Now I start at 240-I like that progress.  I think I am still an A-cup though.  I want at least a B cup by August. Ha Ha.  But I have to conquer my mind and set it straight.  Stay focused don’t let the outside world in when I am working out.  Any ideas on chest size would be appreciated.

Muscle confusion

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Well I am confused unless I keep a lifting log.  Moving through all the different types of exercise.  What I posted as my work out is my core workout.  The exercise vary from free weights to Body Masters to cable/band machines.  Any one else keep a "rotating log?"  I do notice the soreness stays with me.  The biceps are the biggest problem and progress has slowed but genetics does what it must.  I have not tried a static lift on them yet.  Overall progress continues.  18 months ago I started bench work with 120 lbs.  Now I work out with 240!  I have never tried to max out because I do not think it is that important I want to be strong through the workout and look good.  So…1/2 through my 3 year goal,  progress has been better than I anticipated in most areas. And one more thing…DAMN is it hard to gain weight or what when you eat well and bust your chops on the weights?!

After 18 months-What I have learned.

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I see small changes-others see big changes. It is a lot harder to gain weight than I imagined-even eating like a pig.  NO-Explode, regular creatine just don’t work for me.  Protein powders DO make a difference.  When I lift my aches and pains go away.  I feel alot happier when I lift.  I feel physically and mentally worse when I do not lift.  I have had to buy new shirts. :)   Only cardio takes the stomach away.  Heavy lifting around the house is not heavy anymore.  I sleep better.  I eat better when I lift.  I like the way I look now.  I could have a stroke and die tomorrow but what I have done up to this point I am happy with.  I am not where I want to be yet.  Plateaus don’t seem to happen as much when using the 5×5 program.  Lifting is like meditating-it’s all about focus-going up, holding and coming down.  There are some really poor techniques out there.  Women are not interested in socializing while at the gym.  Men are not interested in socializing at the gym.  Bodybuilders are building a disciplined mind as well as their bodies. This is why good bodybuilders don’t socialize while lifting.  Bodybuilders give a nod of recognition to each other or a handshake and move along to the next set.  Bodybuilding is a path not a means to an end.  Competitions are check points of progress-not pinnacles.  We need to support one another at the gym nad at work and home.  People are dying to connect to one another and get people’s attention.  Live when you workout, live when you get home and live at work.  Live life all the time.

Tribulus

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Anyone ever try this stuff?  I will take a jar of it and see.  From the research and hype it will give 5-10 lbs of lean muscle in 4-8 weeks.  Other research says it will do nothing.  For $14 I can try it and see.  If it works I may try and grow my own!  I cannot say that anything works so far from supplements to vitamins to enzymes to herbs.  So far the best formula is work hard, sweat, rest, plenty of fluids and eat healthy.  The rest all seems hype.  But at 46 I cannot expect to have Arnold’s physique.  So just keep working out and never any ‘roids.
