A unique experience
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009In Muay Thai today I kept getting punched in the face with my own glove because for some silly reason I kept my left glove in from of my nose instead of the lower side of my jaw. My sparring partner would remind me to stop doing that by punching my glove which caused it to hit me in the face. *OUCH* Every time he did it he would laugh and say "You’ll learn to stop doing doing that soon." He was right, after the 5th time I stopped doing it. My nose and the left side of my face is still sore from that lesson.
I had a very unique experience in BJJ today. One of my instructors put me with a highly trained BROWN BELT! Oh but that’s not all. Dude was straight out of Brazil and spoke very little English. He was short, stout and very strong! I’ve seen this man roll with other black belts and he kicked major ass. I was immediately intimidated and that says a lot because I don’t get intimidated easily. When we sparred I could fell how powerful he was under his GI. I can’t really explain it but as I tried my best to get side control I can fell him only applying half of his strength to resist me. HELL! Maybe not even that much. Besides my viking classmate who I enjoy climbing on like Mount Everest (Meeeeoooooowwwww~) this man was able to handle my body weight LIKE NOTHING! He made me feel like I weighed only 90lbs. AS IF! But the more we rolled the more I learned by watching what he was doing to me. I tapped out the first session and just kept him at bay the second session. I used my height to my advantage and just spread my knees and feet away from his reach. The whole time I’m saying to myself "Don’t let him get on top! That’s your ass if he get’s on top." Finally the buzzer went off and it was time to switch partners. What an awesome roll!
It’s amazing. After today class I just realized that I can feel the other person’s strength and power before the sparring get started. Once I’m close on someone and both of my hands touch their body I instantly know if they are strong or not. I wonder if other members in my class can feel the same thing? Can they feel their sparring partner’s strength and power before rolling?
I enjoyed that experience so much that I wanted to roll with him again but I was partnered up with some other guy who had a HUGE EGO. During our sparring he’s trying to show off in front of his buddies by giving me pointers on how to handle him. I simply shut his azz up by mounting on top, overpowering his arms and putting him into a kimura arm lock. The second time I was able to grab him into an arm bar. When he tapped out the second time I stood up and said "What were you saying?" His friends started laughing. I hate guys like that! Don’t show off in front of your buddies and take me lightly because I’m a female. There’s a strong b*tch under this GI. UGH! Stuff like that pisses me off! That was the first time I sparred with him and hopefully it will be the last.
Anywho, I just wanted to share my experience because I really enjoyed that session with the guy from Brazil. Yes, I tapped out the first session and fought for my life the second session. Yes he was strong as an ox and only used 30% of his strength to handle my body weight! LOL! But I would love to do that again. Rolling with someone that powerful made me feel humble and honored. It was a very rewarding experience that I hope happen again.
