Off season diet

May 16, 2009

Three weeks ago I had my first show and in doing so I noticed how important the diet is. I have always known how important diet is but dieting down for a show really made me notice just how important it is.

After doing my show I set some new goals of packing on some mass and looking at doing a show at a higher weight class. The first thing I know I have to do is get in those cals. Being a very hard gainer and not always making sure that I was spot on with my diet killed me in the past.

Well I am now focused on my off season diet like I was for the show diet and it is paying off! I was at 150lbs at the show and I am now at 176lbs, the heaviest I have ever been. I know I still have a ton of work to do but seems like everything is going in the right direction for me. Just making sure I stay up on the calories and pack on that mass.

Getting ready to get back to it.

May 3, 2009

I took the week off after the show and now I am amped to get back to it. I think the week off was much needed. I feel super focused and ready to push myself to new heights. During the week off I tried to not even think about the gym. The only time I was there is when I had clients and for me thats an odd thing. Hell most of the time I am there 10+ hours a day. The first few days it was really hard not going into the gym but as the week went on I just kept telling myself that it was time off that my body needed. The new goals are set and the journey starts tomorrow….

Thoughts on my first show.

April 29, 2009

So here I am a few days after doing my first show and I am still on top of the world! I have always been one that loves trying new things. I like being able to say "tried that". I have always been active. I was in sports all during high school, tried my hand at snocross, and even tried the tough guy thing at got into boxing for a few years. Yeah I enjoyed all and did very well at them but there was just something about getting up on stage in front of a bunch of strangers that was an amazing rush. I started thinking about doing a show about seven or eight months out… I first started thinking about doing a show and just thought I would do it just for fun and to get the experience of it. I was thinking that the experience would be great for personal training. Well lets just say the competitive side took over after a couple of weeks and I was wanting to give it my all and at least compete for a first. the journey was no walk in the park. The lifting was nothing new at all but when the diet started it all changed! I would have to say staying on a diet like that is one of the hardest thing I have ever done! It really affects every part of your life! I remember being a couple weeks into it and being ready to toss in the towel and say forget it! We had some birthday parties and what not to go to and I got to sit there and watch everyone else eat all the yummy stuff. lol… Well I toughed it out and made it. looking back I am so proud that I didnt just say screw it and give up. The experience of my first show was amazing. The show was set to start on sat. at 1pm so we headed out on friday at about 7pm. On the way we got to stop and have some real food on to get the carb loading for the night before. I had a steak and some fries at around 8:30pm. We got back on the road to Madison, WI. We arrived in Madison just in time to have some Pizza at about 10pm. I was so damn happy that I got to eat some pizza that I was like a kid in the candy store! After the pizza we got all settled into the hotel. Now came time to get painted. After about 45min I had a nice coat of pro-tan and it was time for bed. I was up nice and early on saturday ready to rock and roll. I woke up and checked my weight right away. I was about a pound over according to the scale at the hotel but figured I would be fine. After getting up and getting another coat of pro-tan on we headed to the local pancake house to get that last big carb meal in before the show. So here it was just a little before checkin time for the show and I was stressing about making weight. Well I get to weight in and the stress was about to get a lot worse! I was two pounds over and only had 25 minutes to get it off. on went the hoodie and sweat pants. I ran my ass off for about 20 minutes and checked my weight again and was still about a pound over. I asked if I could have a few more minutes to try and make weight and was asked "you really think you can lose a pound in five minutes?" i replied with please just give me a chance. I hit the stairs for a good five minutes and tried my luck one last chance. Someone was looking out for me. The scale bounced off the bottom for a split second so I hopped off it as fast as I could. I was as happy as could be. After relaxing for a few minutes it was time to start getting ready… This is where it started getting fun. The people were amazing. About 25 minutes before I was supposed to be up on stage I started getting pumped up. After a few sets of nice slow reps I started to feel a great pump and the confidence started to get pumped up as well. Before I knew it, it was stage time… The first round lasted about 10min. and then it was time to relax tell the night show. Had some food to keep the muscles nice and hard. the time pasted very fast and then it was time to get the night show on the way and to find out how I placed. Standing in line and hearing the head judge go down the list of names, Third place and still not my name, second place… not me so holy hell that means…. yep I took a first in my first ever show. I was so amped that I couldnt hold back the smile. I cant wait to take some time off and then set some new goals and go from there. I will keep you all in the loop
