SINGLE DIGITS

Ok, so I’ve been looking forward to today ALLLL week.. Not just cuz it’s Friday, but I have wanted to go clothes shopping.. specifically JEANS shopping. I was hoping it would be a good fashion day but I never know what to expect when I get in the dressing room.. So I collect my usual size of jeans and in I go.. Hmmmmmm… these slacks seem a bit loose.. are they suppose to fit like this?? NOPE.. so I try the size down and EUREKA! they’re perfect.. but it’s a fluke, i tell myself… So I then try on the jeans.. and AGAIN, the same result! HUH?! Every pair of jeans I tried on were FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY a size 8! (one pair was even a size 6!! now i have NEVER seen the likes of that number in my LIFE!!!) I know a size 8  still sounds like a large number to some, but I have NEVER claimed to be a teeny tiny waif of a woman.. Nor do I want to be.. I love my curves.. I’m roundy round in all the right places, is my motto (i just kinda let it get out of control for a while) =)  … And I even bought a pair of Juniors Skinny Legged jeans!! haha.. I was cracking myself up in the dressing room.. Butcha know what?? they look freakin’ FANTASTIC on me.. haha.. And then of course, one thing led to another and i just HAD to have that pair of red patent leather flats and the grey rounded toe wedge mary janes and don’t even get me started on the bras and panties!! (sorry guys.. i just had to take it there) haha…

 So, quick synopsis… I AM FLYING HIGH RIGHT NOW!! and i’m running on 2 hours of sleep after my night shift.. ENDORPHINS.. AINT THEY GREAT?!?!?!?!?

I don’t like to do the Cross Fit workouts with cleans and jerks and pulls and all that.. Give me the ones with running and I’m all in.. Let’s take today’s WOD for example.. 3 rounds of 800 meter run 50 back extentions 50 sit ups.. Let me AT it.. I was looking forward to it all day.. So I get to the gym and do a pretty heavy shoulder day (not hard to do cuz they’re my weakest and I dont’ work them all that often) and then I got on the treadmill to start MICHAEL.. well.. One of the trainers and my friend, who’s a figure gal, decided to occupy me while on the treadmill.. And, as I’m not one to NOT talk and socialize, I did just that.. Then I had to go cuz I was meeting my Bestie and her daughter for lunch.. YUMMY btw…

After that, I picked up my son and took him to the college for the Men’s soccer game.. Awesome afternoon, but still a little warm out. I got there just as the womens practice was ending, changed into my running clothes and asked if any of them wanted to join me.. HERE IS WHERE I HAVE ISSUES WITH THEM.. but this is not a blog about THAT! haha..

So off I went.. 400 meter warm up lap arond the track… *GO SONJA* i hear from some of the gals who stayed for the game.. I did a little mental preperation and I was off.. All in all, I did it in 21:25.. I was pooped.. But in reality, when i was training for the 1/2 IRONMAN, i would do 400 M and 800 M sprints AFTER running 8 or 9 miles, so 2400 M ONLY is mentally a piece of cake for me.. and boy was I sweating and I was proud for the men and women see me do that!

And guess what the Women will be doing for Fitness tomorrow………. i LOVE my job =)

That described my run today =) It was a GORGEOUS Fall day here in the Pacific NW and I just couldn’t bring myself to workout another day in the gym! SO I DIDN"T! I also knew that I had to work tonight and in order for me to be tired enough to take a nap, I would have to have a hard run… I decided to run the Lake.. As I’ve described before, it’s 7.2 miles of hills.. If you ain’t going up, you’re coming down! Theres’ only a short bit of flat and it’s on the backside of the lake, that I’m too scared to run alone in. I know, IFP scared? Yep… My faithful judge of fear, Kirby, would never run back in that part. At first, I would pull his leash to "encourage" him to come with me, but then I realized I should pay attention, so I stopped running that portion of the lake. But I digress…

So when all was said and done, I ran 6 miles of undulating hills in 51 minutes.. I’m happy with this cuz I went farther than I usually go in the same amount of time.. And the weather was PERFECT! cool…. sunny.. with a slight breeze.. And in my head I felt like a gazelle.. and I slept like a baby when I got home.. So wednesdays are going to be my "HILL" days =)

Life is good

Even when it seems like you have enough heart ache and grief, life is still good. there’s always SOMETHING to be happy about. You just have to find it.. To look deep enough for it.. To open you eyes and accept that silver lining for what it is! No, I’m no philosopher and I don’t play one on T.V… but my uncles death has taught me something. It is not the material things that make us rich. It is not whether my sheets match my bed or whether my son gets all the soap out of his hair that’s truly important. And whether I have 6 pack abs matters not one bit IF i don’t have the close connections with those that matter most to me! And these connections.. these deep, personal connections that my uncle had with his friends, have inspired me and motivated me..

And today was my first good day in a long time. And that feels good to say! And I celebrated it with a good back/bi day and a hard 35 minute run.. 10 minutes at 7:30 pace.. 12 minutes at 7:00 pace.. and 4×400 with 1:15 rest in between.. And I feel amazing =)

Oh, and with the help of my new fellow endurance junkies at the gym, and CG’s new found love of running, I have decided to run a 1/2 marathon on October 12th! =)
