Well, let me tell you.. that’s the LAST time i EVER tell my trainer that i’m tired and not feeling well cuz she KILLED my legs.. here’s what i paid for….
warm up leg press 20 reps no weight..
squat jumps x 15 with 5 pound medicine ball.. followed by 20 reps leg press 50 pounds.. more jump squats x 20 reps. (after 15 she had to again remind me that i am an athlete and not just a housewife.. that always gets me fired up).. then leg press x 20 x 70 pounds… squat jumps x 20, which was pretty much to muscle fatigue
then i paid to throw the 10 pound medicine ball against the wall, catch it, drop on the ground into a bridge postition while balancing my hands on the ball.. repeat x 10.. active rest of knee jumps OVER that medicine ball x 10 each side.. and repeat x 3.. pretty much fatigued my quads again..
next we moved on to 2 legged leg extension x 12 x 55 pounds.. active rest of "rocking horse".. balance on one leg then jump forward and land on the opposite leg and balance.. then jump backwards and land on first leg.. repeat x 10 each leg.. more leg extensions and "rocking horse" x 3
hamstring curls both legs x 40 pounds x 15 x 3.. active rest of side jumps, balancing and holding on one foot x 10 each side..
then one legged plank to bridge move, moving up to my hands and back down.. i’ve described this in previous bloggs so if you could just refer to that, i would appreciate it…
and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you kill princess’ legs!!
ps.. just sent a text to Trainer J saying "last night’s leg workout was awesome! it may not have been my best workout (cuz i just couldn’t get my balance on my lateral jumps) but it pushed me past my comfort zone and i’m feeling it today".. and she replied "that’s what im’ talkin’ about! I am grateful to be part of ur journey and will push u 2 ur personal best! it’s exciting to think what we will accomplish together!" DAMN TOOTIN TRAINER J!! You and all my fellow bb.comers who i’ve come to luv and enjoy!! You know who u are!!

i’ve taken the last 3 days off from working out. i haven’t even missed the gym or my workouts! my body was run down and my brain was fried! plus, it’s not like i’ve been sitting on my tookus eating bon bons (but doesnt that just sound yummy??)…. so today finds me at work and i suddenly started thinking about getting back to my routine of training.. and i’m really looking forward to it… so in the spirit of the holidays, i starting singing my all time favorite songs (to myself of course)… and i came up with my own version… to best enjoy this, you need to sing the song outloud.. dont’ be shy! it’s to the tune of The sound of Music’s "a few of my favorite things"…… have fun and enjoy!!
Running on treadmills and swimming in cold pools….. Spinning and sweating I look like a real fool…. Seeing my progress is worth it i sing….. These are a few of my favorite things……
One legged lunges and single leg ham curls….Jump squats and plyos all make me a strong girl…. Playing my ipod so loud my ears ring…. These are a few of my favorite things….
Lat pull downs, chin ups and over head shoulder press… Pull ups and push ups all make a fit Princess…. Soaking my muscles in the hot, hot, hot springs… these are a few of my favorite things….
When the dog bites (yes this did actually happen), when My bod hurts, when i’m feeling bad…. I get in my car and i drive to the gym… and then I’m again soooooooooooooo glad
Happy Saturday to ya all!!

Yesterday’s workout consisted of a good old fashioned swim.. I was going to go to the WARM pool.. but noooooooooo…it was closed for maintenance.. BOO THAT!! so that left the colder than the North Pole pool at the college.. not real thrilled about that but hey, i figured it will get me ready for my Polar Bear swim in 20 days!
SO… in the pool i jump and did my warm up laps.. felt strong. and let the workout begin!! so i started with free style, and a few laps of breast stroke, back stroke… i was amazed at how quickly it came back to me.. the proper breathing.. reaching long.. kicking strong.. and then all of a sudden, as i was taking a breath, i looked over to the side and "saw" my old swimming coach barking orders at me!! HUH?!?!?!?!?! and then i "saw" my fellow teammates screaming their encouragements.. talk about crazy!! but it was also so cool!!! and it really helped me get thru the second half of my swim..
so all in all, i went a total of 45 laps in 45 minutes.. (1.3 miles).. i wasn’t going for time today since it’s been forever since i’ve been swimming.. and when i was finished i was famished! forgot how hungry swimming makes you! or me…..
but my day wasn’t done yet.. i still had legs with my trainer just a few hours later.. and i told her i was exhausted but NOT to take it easy on me.. so she didn’t.. here’s what legs consisted of
leg press 20x 50 pounds…. 20 x 60 pounds.. 20 x 70 pounds.. with ‘active rest’ of jump squats/bridge kick backs x 10.. then side lunges with shoulder press 12.5 pounds x 20 and then 10 pounds x 20 x 2.. ( my shoulders were killing me after the swim and from mondays workout).. 1 legged squats with my back resting on the stability ball on the wall x 12 each leg x 3 followed by ‘active rest’ of side jumps on the box x 10 each side x 3.. then hamstring curl x 30 pounds x 20.. then 40 pounds x 20 x 2.. with ‘active rest’ of 1 legged dead lift x 10 pounds.. i’ve never done a 1 legged dead lift before and at this point in the workout, my hip kept wanting to cramp! i tell ya!! so i did my best ‘hip’ stretch which actually looks more like a ’stripper’ move and she tells me ‘princess, look at urself in the mirror’… and we both busted up!! talk about hysterics!!
and what a great way to end that workout! so today is my day of rest PEACE OUT!!

So tonight was my 6th training with my new trainer/coach! As many of you know, this woman is a woman i LUV to HATE!! and she rocks!! She doesn’t have me doing lots of weights, per se, but tons and tons of exercises on the stability ball.. So here’s a sample of tonights upper body/back/chest core workout….
warm up 5 minutes.. that’s the easiest by far!
wide grip lat pull down 60 pound warm up 15 reps..active rest of narrow stance push ups with hands on 5 pound dumbells transitioning into side plank, lifting the 5 pound dumbell one side then lowering to do another push up and raising to the other side… then lat pull down 15 reps x 75 pounds.. more push ups/side planks… lat pull down 12 reps x 90 pounds.. more push ups/side plank.. then we went to wide grip pull back (not sure the name of this exactly) x 12 70 pounds.. now comes the killer!! with legs on stability ball, i roll out to do a wide stance push up then roll the ball in for lower abs.. (this is also what she calls "active rest.." active rest my a**).. then repeat the wide grip pull back and stability ball push up/ab roll x 3…. next is iso lateral something or other for the lats.. 20 pounds both arms x 5 reps then right arm x 5 reps then left arm x 5 reps then both arms again x 5 reps.. repeat x 3… THEN my favorite core move, the plank to bridge move.. i start on my forearms, legs extended.. and raise up on one hand then the other and back down, one arm at a time.. repeat x 5 each side.. doesn’t sound too hard till u try it!! (go ahead.. try it ) and do this x 3.. THEN the same iso lateral lat exercise drop set.. 50 pounds x 4…40 pounds x 4…30 pounds x 4….20 pounds x 4… THEN that same plank to bridge move but THIS time, one legged!! HOLY GARGANZOLA!! she kidding me???
well, she knows me well enough by now to know that if she challenges me, i will see her challenge and raise her one! so just when i thought i couldn’t lift myself up from my forearm to my hand, she says to me "this is what will separate u from the rest of the pack.. you are NOT a housewife right now.. YOU ARE AN ATHLETE!" and that did it.. i exhaled and pushed myself up with whatever i had left, and completed ONE MORE SET than she requested!!!
and now?? my arms are noodles.. can’t even brush my teeth.. but that’s just gross so i’ll find a way to get that done! no worries on that… PEACE OUT!

So the day started with a GREAT workout at the gym! My bike riding group cancelled this morning secondary to the impending snow that was coming.. So off to the gym I went. I rode the spinning cycle for 20 miles, intervals and hills included.. And followed it with 7 miles on the treadmill, intervals/hills and sprints included.. And all for a total of 2 hours! My legs were really feeling it about 5 miles into the run, but I was amazed at how much stronger I am than when I was training for the Marathon. And I pushed thru it with my own mental challenges, but also with the help of some key texts from fitnblonde.. lol… I’m sure I was also stronger due to the fact that I’m cross training, but also to the addition of weights!! YAAAAAAAAY WEIGHTS!!!(said like the cheerleader i never was but always wanted to be..haha)
So I picked up my son from the kids club and ran a few errands, all in the snow.. I didn’t think much of the snow cuz we dont’ usually get much that sticks and it wasn’t sticking at the time.. But in a matter of 5 minutes, it started to stick on the road.. and that wet, slushy, slide all over the heavens kind of snow! So we loaded up the groceries and off to home we went.. All was going well until some young driver slowed to a crawl without warning in front of me. There was no reason to but alas he did. I had plenty of room to slow but in doing so I hit a patch of this wet snow (that hadnt seen a snow plow yet) and started to fish tail and never came out of it until my car had gone across the highway backwards, going over the curb and finally resting about 2 feet from the edge of the hill, facing the wrong direction! HOLY *$(#$*(@#*&$(*#&$*(@#&$!!! Once I realized we werent’ going over the hill (and if we had would have rolled down into the westbound lanes of the highway) it dawned on me that that young man had driven off…. DRIVEN OFF I SAY!!! WTF??!?!?!?!?!?!? didn’t even check to make sure we were okay!
Mercifully, I was able to reach the people I needed to reach and one car stopped to make sure I was okay. And the most ironic thing of this entire debacle was that 2 minutes later that freakin’ snow plow came by!!! She called the State Patrol… hubby came.. then the Firefighters stopped to make sure no injuries… and then FINALLY the tow man.. perhaps the man i was happiest to see!!! And in the end, my son and I are okay.. No injuries. Not sure I can say the same about my car. it’s awaiting its prognosis..
So, now I’m home.. I’m freakin’ tired and exhausted. And as I was chilling and watching the Oklahoma/Mizzou game, I just started crying. No, not hormones this time and not cuz it’s a tied game as I type this… but because I realize how lucky i really am! I have a fantastic family.. Amazing friends.. I have life! And now I’m going to go back to chilling.. cuz let’s be honest, I’ve got a game to watch!
