WHAT IS BETTER A FULL-BODY WORKOUT 2-3 TIMES A WEEK OR A 5-DAY SPLIT?

Hey I have a problem.  I can not decide if I should do a full-body workout 2-3 times a week or 5-day split workout.  My dad says since I am a beginner I should start off with a full-body workout 2-3 times a week; however, I have heard of people starting off with the split system and getting excellent results.  Which one should I do?

UPDATE!!!

Hey guys it has been about two weeks since my two weeks since my last post and I want to give you guys an update.  First, I decided to bring back weight lifting.  I am doing a full-body workout 2-3 times a week.  Also my diet has been going really well.  I have been eating fruits, veggies, meats, milk, and plenty of water.  I do feel I lack protein though.  Also I do not think I am going to make my goals the only one I might make is the 20 mi.  So far I have done 12.  Give me your support.

FIRST WEEK=GOOD!!!

Hey guys I just finished my first week of serious cadio training and it went great.  I ran 10 miles this week in total so I am already half way through my month goal.  I also burned a total of 1000 cals.  My diet went good too.  I drank plenty of water and ate harldy any fat but still got good protein and carbs.  I have not checked my weight or wasit becasue I want to surprise myself of the changes I made at the end of the month.  I hope the rest of the month goes as well this week did.  Wish me luck.
