Summary for 1/25/08 and 1/26/08

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

A bit behind here.  I commute to the suburbs on weekends to be with my mom and sister.  My family doesn’t have wireless or DSL or any computer hookup so I have to use dial up to connect to the internet.  I don’t know what’s going on but I have been having a lot of trouble using the modem to access the internet on weekends hence the tardiness of my weekend postings.  Good weekend though - ate well and managed a good workout yesterday using the things I keep there.  For those of you who are in similar situations I thought it might be helpful to share what I have purchased for my "home gym" that I keep at my mom’s.  I bought a set of light weights (2, 3, and 5 lb) that I admittedly have outgrown but still find use for at times.  I also purchased a set of 9, 15, and 20 lb DBs.  I also bought a barbell (11 lb) and a pair of 10 and 5 lb weights for it.  I also have several elastics, a swiss ball, and a step.  Since my mom can’t lift the DBs or Bb (she’s 79 years old) I stopped buying anymore weights.  I save my heavy lifting for the work week and the gym at school. This works well for me.

Catching Up

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Agh!  I am getting behind here.  Yesterday - well we’ll try to forget yesterday.  No, let’s talk about it.  I did well all day.  In fact, I felt so good yesterday morning I wore my new Carushka velvet slacks (the leg huggin’ kind) to work!  I worked hard, went to the gym and really pushed on the step mill - 60-min of intervals and then I came home and -ugh!! argh! binged. A beauty!  2 pints of ice cream, a bag of 8 cookies - Pepperidge Farm (I have good taste!), and 4 pieces of mountain bread.  I really can’t afford to do this now.  It is getting to be count down time and I need to make every day a good one in terms of eating.  OK enough rantin’ here’s a summary for the last two days:

Stair Climbing

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I don’t know about you but I am fiercely competitive.  I will compete with anyone no matter what the apparent obstacles are that are involved - anywhere, anytime.  So, I am always on the lookout for a challenge.  Since the competition season won’t start until April for me I have been looking for ways to channel my competitive streak productively toward my ultimate goal of competing in figure this spring.  So, when I saw that the American Lung Association was having a stair climbing event, I thought wow!  perfect!
I love stair climbing.  It’s my favorite form of cardio.  I struggle with the treadmill because I really don’t enjoy running - don’t get me wrong I can do it, I just find it, well mindless.  Boring.  Stair climbing on the other hand gets my adrenal going.   So, the upshot is I am going to climb stairs of One Boston Place on Saturday Feb. 2nd to raise money for the ALA.  If you would like to support the ALA please consider sponsoring me.  Just go to URL:  https://www.mrsnv.com/evt/e01/pldg/search.jsp?id=1638 and enter my name "Patricia Mabrouk" and make a pledge. LOL!  I am a sure thing!  Hey any woman who can spend an hour on the step mill has gotta be able to climb a lousy 82 flights of stairs :)   Thanks for your consideration and have a great day!
