Lifting for Women and Bones

The way I got into lifting was from being diagnosed with Ostepenia (start of Osteoporosis..bone thinning; which leads to crippling weakness, deformities, and ultimately death)

Bone thinning is often due to imbalance in hormones (in my case estrogen…due to a very early onset of menopause that drs wouldn’t recognize…saying it was in my head; so I went for about ten years without producing enough estrogen to keep my bones from thinning (like an old woman’s).  Lucky for me (on advice from a very holistic Dr in CA), I got into lifting and reversed what I lost in only one year!  I was an animal at attaining my goals…always am when I’m passionate about something…so the moral of the story is "weight lifting is great not only for strong muscles and looking "hot", but keeps your bones strong!"

Always thought those muscle heads HAD to know something we didn’t! :-)

Supplementation with CA, Mg, Zn, and D are also important.  And Vit. C helps CA absorbtion…nevermind the other benefits.  I am a believer in eating lots of fruits and veggies in addition to the tons of protein I consume, but if you are not a fruit or veggie eater you had better check into some supplements!
