Two Setbacks today!

What a downer.

 

First, I woke up with my left heel still in intense pain; maybe even worse than yesterday. I am wondering if maybe the Dr hit a nerve or something while he was fishing around with that needle in my foot.  Last time I had this done I was pain free after the first day!  So I could not work out; esp not cardio, which I don’t love but I really need!

Then I had my fitness profile review at the health and fitness center.  Most of the numbers came back okay but BF % was 25%  25% !!!! They use an electric impedence method vs. the calipers that Pat my nutrionist uses so maybe that is the reason for the difference, but last week at Pat’s my BF was about 13% I thinK!  Also, the scale had me at 243 lbs. I had been down to 231 but I know I put back a few lbs due to some unclean eating this week, but not 12 lbs!  Again maybe it was the differences in the scales, but it still was a downer.

Guess alll I could do is hope the foot is good enough tomorrow morning to do some cardio and start eating better again!  Wish me luck! 

 

One more thing…

Tomorrow morning I have my quarterly profile review with the nurse at the Health and Fitness center.  Here they take all your vitals as well as body measurements and compare it to past reports. Can’t wait to see what I have (hopefully) achieved!

Today’s Workout

I posted this before but I guess my PC burped cause the post never showed up so…

 

Today’s workout was filled with challenges because:

1. Yesterday I had a benign cyst about the size of a golf ball removed from my chest.  I have a sutured incision about an inch long running down my chest (like between my nipples.)  Sounds worse than it si; I am pain free and gald to have the nasty thing out of me.  However, becaiuse the stitches were still "fresh" I was unwilling to do any movements that stretched the area or put any undue pressure on the area.

2. Yesterday was Dr day, I guess, because I also saw my podiatrist who gave me a second injection of cortisone into my heel to treat an old heel spur which, of late, has reared is painfully ugly head!  Two weeks ago I recieved the first injection; had pain around the injection site the day of but was completely pain free the next day.  Today (the "next day" for injection #2) I awoke in severe pain and limping!  Go figure!  I was considering canceling my training session but decided to go through with it and see what I could do.

 

Thanks to my knowledgeable and innovative trainer, Joshua Katz (see BodySpace profile THEMETHOD) I had a very productive workout focusing on core movements and some bi and tri work!  Yea Josh!

A nice thing happenned yesterday at Dr appoinment # 3. Thois was with my internist and was a followup to a visit about 6 weeks ago when he put me on meds for hypertension.  The meds doing what they are supposed to do at the minimum clinical dose!  At the end of the appointment, Doc say "I think you should have a stress test just as a precaution because you have 2 of the risk factors for heart problems."  (I think-oh here goes the "your fat" lecture.  I have received that one at virtually every Dr visit for asl long as I can remember.)  I asked what the risk factors were that he referred to.  Well, you have hypertension and your tryglicerides tend to run high! (Actually I also have heart disease in my family-he missed that one!)  But not a mention of "You’re overweight!)  Thats a first for this old guy!  I’ll take the tryglicerides! LOL

Tomorrow I will try to get back to at least my normal cardio routine!

No workout today; had a cyst the size of a golfball removed from my chest this AM and then went to to podiatrist for a second cotrisone shot in my foot for a heel spur that has been ginving me a lot of pain lately.  But tomorrow morning, its back in the gym!

was chest and tri’s.   Tomorrow I have some minor surgery scheduled (just the removal of a cyst on my chest) so there will be no workout tomorrow.  Saturday we will do some lower body stuff to keep away from the area that was cut.

Cutting caloric intake, increasing exercise regimen, and NOT LOSING WEIGHT

I am a "trying to be " bodybuilder; by nomeans lean and usually very hungry. I have been working with a nutrition specialist as well as a personal trainer (both bodybuilders) and here is what I have learned:

Weight is only one, and often the least important, component of evaluating your progress.  You have to have your BF% calculated.  This is done by calibrator with results applied to a BFM index based on your age and weight or by more sofisticated means.  Once the BF% is calculated, it is applied to your total bodyweight to calculated your body fat in pounds.  The difference between your total boyweight and your bodyfat in pounds is commonly referred to a smean boy mass, but is actually lean body mass + any water retention.  I for one have been retaining water for some unknown reason for a number of weeks. Thus while I made great progress in my loss of BF pounds, I actually gained body weight tot he extent that it was impossible for the entire gain or anything near it to be increased muscle mass. So the whats left is water retention.  I went on a diuretic for 2  weeks, relunctly prescriped by my GP, and low and behold after weeks of total weight gain, my total weight began to decrease; not to the point to where I began but at least headed in the right direction.  Now I need to find a Dr who is willing to explore why Iam retaining water!

Hope that it helps.  I know that it can be somewhat confusing and frustrating to a "newbie" like me.

(PS My personal trainer says to take the scalke and throw it out the window!)
