8 Day rotation/Day 1, wk 1

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Yesterday was my first day back after taking 6 days off.  I had not lifted for 6 days.  It was a good rest and I could tell my body really needed it.  I started the 8 day rotation with shoulders and abs.  It was an ok lift.  Nothing spectacular about it at all.  Today I have quads and calves.

Have a great day everyone and don’t forget to hit the gym during this holiday week.

9 Day Rotation/day 9, wk 3

Today is a rest day and the last day from two lifting programs I completed over the last 6 weeks.  I’m really happy that I did it and I look forward in doing my measurements soon. I have to think about how much rest time I should take prior to starting my new lifting program.

Next month at my gym there will be a dunk tank to measure body fat.  The cost is $40.00, so I need to find out if this is a deal or should I go somewhere else.

I’ve been really happy with my progress during this year.

9 Day Rotation/Day 3, Wk 3

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I had another late night at the gym.  I started lifting after 8 pm and worked on my back.

For being up since 3:30am, I did really well.  Also running earlier that day was another sign that I’m on the right path.

I came into the gym felling really motivated.  I felt really strong yesterday evening and displayed good form during my lifts.

I began my lifts with Yates rows and ended strong with DB shrugs.  I’m off of the pull-up machine and am now doing regular pull-ups on the pull-up bar.  It’s been years since I’ve been able to do this, so another milestone completed.  I rested my abs yesterday.

Workout success update: It was an amazing lift last night.  I increased poundage again!

Yates rows +20 lbs.

Seated cable rows +20 lbs.

DB shrugs +10 lbs (100 lbs DBs) - Oh Yeah, Get Some!
Today is my rest day.  I’m not doing crap today.  I’m going to rest and let my bod repair.

Only 21 more days for my target date.  I’m on track and ready for that date.

9 Day Rotation/Day 2, Wk 3

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I had another late night at the gym.  When I got home, I took off my clothes and crashed on the bed for a few hrs.  I finally got to the gym and was lifting at 7:20pm.  For being late, I felt good and had good form during my lifts.  I was able to work on my routine, but I cut my ab workout short.  The kid’s club closes at 8:00pm, so I had to get the little guy out of there at that time.

I worked on triceps, forearms and abs.

Workout success update:

I increased the poundage in the following exercises:

Close grip bench press + 20 lbs.

Overhead DB extensions + 5 lbs (I had to get a spotter to help me get the 80 lbs dumbbell over my head)

Rope cable press downs +7.5 lbs

9 Day Rotation/Day 1, Wk 3

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Day 1, week 3 of this routine.  8 more days to go then I’ll be switching my routine.

As much as I hate to say, I’m starting to enjoy working my legs.  Yesterday I worked on quads, calves and abs.  I got the gym late and started off with squats.  Now, the reason I don’t like working legs, is because of an old knee injury and I am in fear of blowing out my knee.  How old is this injury you ask?  Let’s just say that it is so old that I don’t remember which knee had the injury!  J

Workout success update:  While I stayed at the same weight doing squats, to my surprise I was able to lift more in the following exercises.

Hack squats + 50 lbs.
Leg extensions + 15 lbs.
Seated calf raises + 15lbs.

Also, I did this during a day that I ran.

I finished up the evening with a good ab workout performance.

Happy Monday and be thankful…

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Ok, it is Monday.  Most of you will be going to work, or if you are like me you are  already at work.  If you are reading this post, then you woke up breathing so half of the battle is over.  As simple as it is, we should be thankful that we did wake up alive and we are here doing what we love to do and that is being as fit as we can and sharing ourselves with eachother by talking about fitness.  Remember, most of the population in this world is struggling just to keep alive.

Let’s start this week off with a smile and think positive of life.  Plan to hit your fitness goals this week  and push yourself!  As for myself, I start week 3 of my 9 Day Rotation.  I’ll start a new routine next week.

I’m on target on where I want to be.  I have less than a month to push myself for my goal on July 10th.

Take care and God bless!

9 Day Rotation/ Day 7, Wk 2

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Today I got to work on my favorite routine.  Lats, Biceps and Abs.

I had a good lift last night, in addition; I got to watch the Lakers-Celtics play.  I’m not a Celtics fan, but I am more of an anti-Kobe fan.  If you don’t know, the Lakes lost and are now 1-3 against the Celtics.

I tried two new exercises last night.  Hammer chin ups and single arm high cable curls. The hammer chin ups were fun and I was able to crank sets of 10, 10, 7 and 7.  The second half was harder of course.  As far as the SAHCCs, I had no choice because on of the left side of the cross cable machine was busted, so I had to improvise.

My ab routine went well too.  I am really starting to make gains with my abs.  I enjoy the working my abs and seeing the results.  This is the first time that I have had my abs in this condition in my adult years.  I need to work on my diet more to achieve this.

As I say whenever lifting, “Get Some!”  Apparently another BodySpace person did that that to heart and did “Get Some!”

I thought I had a rest day today, but I have to hit my shoulders tonight.

Hope everyone out there has a great Friday and are able to hit their fitness plans this weekend.

9 Day Rotation/Day 6, Wk 2

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

It was a late night at the gym.  I arrived around 7:30pm, just off the freeway from my 60 mile commute.  I worked on hamstrings and traps.  I took the night off of abs, because I was still sore from the last ab routine.  At least I know I worked my abs right.

After putting on my warrior gear (ok, my gym clothes), I was ready for battle.  I was surprised to find myself with a lot of energy.  I had experienced a long day at the office and the commute was normally long.  There were a few guys in the gym and I met one guy name John.  He was having a problem getting focused and told me of some personal issues.  I guess he needed to chat and I was there.  That was cool with me.  After talking I suggested that he turn his frustrations into something positive in the gym.  I suggested he use his frustrations to get bigger.

Here is something that I’ve learned in my years of working out.  Whether you are dealing with a good or bad situation in your life, you can use that to your advantage in the gym.  If there is something/someone positive in your life, you can use that motivation to help push yourself as well as if you are experiencing a bad situation, you can use that rage to help your lift.  This may sound corny, but it works for me.

Workout success update:  In my last two sets of SLDLs, I was able to lift with really good form.  I’ve increased the weight in my seated curls by 30 lbs.  I’m at 90 lbs DB for Shrugs and I’ve increased my calf raises by 25 lbs.

Tonight is my favorite routine….I can’t wait!

Lats, biceps and abs

“Get Some”

9 Day Rotation/Day 5, Wk 2

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

So, I woke up yesterday at 3:30am feeling like the “Energizer Bunny” using last years Christmas batteries.  I felt really drained and there was no way I could make the 60 mile commute to the office, so I called in sick.

I ended up sleeping in that morning.  I think what happened is that the day before; I had a drop in my blood sugar.  I got my blood sugar up with the help of OJ.  No more that 2 hrs or so later, I went for a 3 mile run in hot weather.

Anyways, back to yesterday.  It actually worked out for me.  After I slept in, I did some telecommuting work and later attended an event at my son’s school.  I later returned home; did some telecommuting and took a nap.  I was feeling better, but not 100%.  The nap helped, because when I woke up at 5:15pm, I felt refreshed.

That evening I felt so good that I went to the gym for my lift.  I felt really energized and I knew I was going to have a great lift!  I worked on chest and abs.  I had a great chest workout.

Workout Success Update:  I was finally able to do 4 sets of regular dips again.  The last time I was able to do dips was back in 1988, when I was about 155lbs. so being 35 lbs. heavier is a major milestone for me.  I have battled doing dips for the last few years and in the beginning of 2007, I started using the Dip Machine to increase my strength.  I’m really happy with this and I hope to start adding weights to my dips.  Oh, yeah, “Get Some!”
