One Sugar Infested Holiday Down…
Now, I just need to survive Thanksgiving and Christmas!!
Halloween was a lot easier than in the past, simply because my kids spent the weekend at their dads so I didn’t have to buy any candy to pass out, which means there’s no candy around to tempt me! I know it sounds cruel to not buy candy to pass out, but I have really been struggling with sugar cravings lately and it would have been cruel and unusual punishment to myself to have all that yummy candy sitting there tempting me!
So the hubby and I went out and had a really nice dinner. I ended up eating fish stuffed with lobster and shrimp…. OMG… heaven!!!! It came with steamed asparagus. The hubby had shrimp over pureed squash (that was divine too). So it was a very nice dinner and pretty good for us. It would have been better if we hadn’t had the bottle of wine, but having a nice bottle of wine with my hubby is something I look forward to!
What I have noticed is that I am finally getting my cravings under control (with a few stumbles along the way), but I still need to work on only having a glass of wine once a week. Right now, I’m having a glass of wine or a bottle of beer (or two) a few times a week. Usually while watching sports with the hubby or when we go out to dinner on the weekend. But even without the sports or dinner, I am drinking wine too many nights for the week. So the sugar cravings are mostly under control, now I need to get the wine down to a glass or two one time per week. That’s my next goal. [sigh]
Bodyfat and weight are staying the same (not going up, but not coming down either). But I’m seeing some increases in strength, which is nice. I have started my second week on JAnthony’s new weightlifting plan for me, and it is still kicking my butt! I am really, really liking this new workout!
One thing that I noticed this weekend is that my left bicep is noticeably smaller than my right. I do mostly dumbbell work on biceps so that I don’t over compensate on my dominate arm when lifting. So I’m not sure why my left looks so puny. Any suggestions?!? It’s really quite irritating!

This year my wife purposely bought Halloween candy that she didn’t like so she wouldn’t be tempted to eat it. Not buying it like you did would be even better.

You did better than me. With the family sick with the flu, me not feeling great either, lack of sleep & Halloween, my defenses were down. Ate too many sweets. Good for you guys getting out & enjoying yourselves.

My wife bought a bag of the mini candy bars just in case, and since the trick or treaters didn’t show up…my son and I took care of them, afterward we were both regretting. Sounds like you had a great night out.

Great job handling the cravings. I share the problem with the beer/wine. with the World Series on and all of the great football….damn it.

It was nice to avoid the Halloween trick or treat thing this year. We had a great dinner and genuinely enjoyed the whole evening, but a small part of me still misses walking the little kids around the neighborhood in their costumes trick-or-treating. Except our youngest, they’re all a too old now. With that, the wife and I are moving into another phase of our lives. (sigh) We really did enjoy the wine :-O

You’re doing good work one thing at a time like that
Glad you were able to avoid the candy. I have no idea what to do about the bicep except maybe do a few extra reps on the weaker side.

Nice job on avoiding the candy. Can’t say as I escaped unscathed, and now have a big pile of the stuff sitting at home! Doh!

I ate candy with wild abandon, but your dinner looked better!

Sugar cravings… When I was a kid, my mom had to put the brown sugar way up in the cabinet out of reach. But I would get a spoon and climb up on the counter and get a few spoonfulls. I loved brown sugar.

Don’t sweat the bigger bicep.
I had one trap bigger than the other and one quad bigger then the other. Next time you work out pay attention and see if you are favoring one arm over the other.
You definitely are if one is bigger or more developed then the other.
So pay attention to your form and make sure you are NOT favoring one side. After paying attention to what I was doing wrong I worked extra hard on making sure I wasn’t favoring one side over the other.
If you do this, eventually, over time (not a long time) they will even out.
Oh, I had one calf bigger than the other, too, and corrected that by paying meticulous attention to form.
P.S. One arm, leg, trap, etc. will always be slightly more "something" than the other, so try not to drive yourself too nuts with that. LOL.
P.P.S. I think a glass or two of dry white wine a few times a week will not hurt too much. I’m just using Kate as an example. She drinks 4 or 5 glasses of wine or champagne EVERY NIGHT, but works out every day and is as thin as a rail. She’s no kid with a high metabolism, either (She’d kill me if she read that!). You should 86 the beer, though. Have a glass of wine with the game or better yet a wine spritzer.
