To compete or not?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Since achieving my goal weight I splurged on my diet and put on a few pounds. I still feel healthy but would like to shed 8-10 pounds for better muscle definition. I’m thinking of competing in my first Figure competition, the Gulf States Alamo Classic, this October. If I can shed the pounds next four weeks and compare my pics to past competitors then I will go for it. What a way to celebrate my 41st birthday!

Finding Balance

Monday, April 14th, 2008

‘m happy with my progress and am working on finding a good balance between diet and exercise. My work outs are still pretty intense which helps toward maintaining muscle. However, I found eating clean really defines a leaner look. The trick is eating carbs at the right times throughout the day.

I’ve read some really good articles by Chris Aceto, BS in Exercise Science and long term contributor to Muscle Fitness. My favorite is his ‘Eight Facts About Carbohydrates’. He writes, "Slow-digesting carbs help control appetite better than fast-digesting ones. Consuming plenty of low-calorie veggies will bump up your fiber intake and further slow the digestion process. That will help you to control your appetite and make you feel full and satisfied –even when following a lower-calorie diet." You can find this entire article at
