Back on the wagon

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I fell into the trap.  I lost most of the weight I was looking to lose, and I let my family, my full time job, plus the fire dept, and college be my excuse to slack off in the gym, and eat crap.  I don’t think I did very much damage to myself, but I have decided to continue what I set out to do, which is to be in the best shape possible.  I’m upset with myself, because at this point, I should be pushing myself to new limits, not trying to get back to where I was.  Oh well, life’s a journey.  Now it’s time to get after it.

Progress in cardio

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I have a 6 mile road course that I like to run, and have for a couple years, although in the beginning it was once or twice a summer.  Now I am going usually twice a week.  It is mostly through the woods and fields, but there are a lot of hills, with the bigger ones at the end.  In the past, my goal was to go 1.5 miles before walking, then it was a mixture of jogging/walking after that.  Now my goal is the full 6 miles non stop jogging, which I have accomplished twice now in the past week.  I have taken my times down from 13 minutes miles average down to 9 min, 30 sec average miles.  I am preparing to do some 5K’s with my wife, and am really starting to enjoy it.

Hard work paying off

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

On the fire department, we have three strength and agility competitions a year, where we go through a set of evolutions based on fireground actions until our air tank runs out, and at the end of the year, the firefighter who has completed the most evolutions gets his name on a plaque in the station.  Previously, I have been kinda middle of the pack.  This year, though, I am neck and neck with the leader, and I think I have a very good shot of pulling it off when November comes around.  My old gear is huge on me, and when I ordered new, it’s amazing to see the difference.  My vitals (blood pressure, etc) have tanked.  I feel like a new man.

Welcome!

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

My first blog post should be to thank my inspiration, my wife, fit4god, for getting me started in this life changing journey.  While I was eating junk, filling the house with junk, she just kept plugging away.  I was getting fatter, she was getting leaner.  In her typical sensitive way, she encouraged me to find the fit me of the past.  She is a symbol of strength, and I am proud and grateful to be her husband.
