Time to Choose

November 9, 2009

I’ve been debating between a low carb or low calorie approach to my intake and I’ve decided to go with the low-calorie plan.  It seems to be more sustainable over time and if my choice is between low energy (low carb) or being hungry (low calorie) I definitely prefer hunger.

I want to weigh in at 170 lbs, and at 10 calories per pound to maintain that weight I can take in 1700 calories per day.

Here I go!!!

A Little Tweaking

September 18, 2009

I’ve decided to workout at home.  I’m not as focused or intense at the gym and I’ll have fewer excuses for not exercising.  The diet is "KILLER".  Water weight is coming off quickly, but the temptation to cheat is extreme.  Perhaps I should incorporate a cheat meal once a week or a cheat day once a month to keep from breaking down into an all out binge.

Bodyspace has been a huge motivator in this process so far.  Looking at profiles of people who have come from far worse situations is inspiring and encouraging.  Thanks to all who have put themselves out there!

The Beginning is the Toughest Part

September 9, 2009

Things will get better after I move past the starting line.  Sure, I’m starting out slow and I’m clumsy in the gym, but I think it’s supposed to be that way.  It will not be that way forever.

I’ve got to keep going because giving up has gotten me where I am now.  There really is no choice anymore…it all has to change.

I’ve already lost a few pounds of water weight and it feels good.  1500 calories a day of greens and protein seems to be working well.

Refusing the food offerings of friends and family have been surprisingly tough.  Does anyone have tips on refusing food that is offered from others?  So far, I just say "no thank you" but it seems to tick people off.

Welcome!

I’m only 3 days into my persuit of fitness and it’s already intense.  The workout part seems easy enough, but the mental and dietary challenges are tough.  My body seems to be going through some type of withdrawal as I make different intake choices.

The sugar and starch cravings are constant, but I think the hardest parts are the moodswings and headaches.  I keep a constant check on my mood and make sure I’m pleasant to be around, because I have gotten into a couple of depression ruts so far where everything I say is negative.

This may explain why change is so hard to make, but I think the hardest parts come up front and try to keep us from improving ourselves.  It’s almost as though a war is going on in my body.  I’m convinced that looking good will feel better than eating bad, and I will continue on.
