6 month check-up
Sunday, March 9th, 2008This time of year always makes me sad – the weeks before the prt test. It’s a semi-annual, non-specific test that is supposed to determine a person’s overall fitness. What I don’t understand is what part of doing my job as a drug and alcohol counselor are sit-ups related too? I can understand overall bodyfat, I can understand aerobic endurance, but sit-ups? I’m 5’8, 210 pounds…I can press 75 pound dumbbells with ease…I can strap on an oxygen tank and don a fire fighting suit and lead a hoseteam into an engine room full of smoke…but what does that have to do with sit-ups?
I’ve spent the past couple months lifting heavier and heavier, the 75 pounders were my crowning achievement, and now I’ve got to do the “binge and purge” so that I slide in under the horribly computed bodyfat percentage.
And as soon as that is done, I’ll go back to being the big dumb kid in the corner who is lifting like a demon and not doing any sit-ups…
