Tribute to the boxing legends- Alexis Arguello and Arturo Gatti

July 11, 2009

This week two of the biggest boxing legends have died.

at 1st of July 2009, Alexis Arguello died. I love his style and his fight with Pryor Hawk was classic and obessen at the same time. He is a good person before being a good boxer.

Another person is Arturo Gatti. I heard today he died in Brazil during his honeymoon with his newly wedded wife. This boxer is not the best boxers around. But he is the one who made me love boxing. He is couragest and fought in the ring with all he had and even if he was losing he was still fighting in hope of a KO win. He is boxing most exicting fighter. He might be gone but his memory of his fight with Micky Ward is a classic triology.

My 50th blog: Survival Strength + something on my mind

July 4, 2009

This is my 50th blog that I write and I wanted to be a special. I really put extra effort on this blog and tryed my best to make it look good.

Before going to the gym ask one question: Why do you want to train?

Doing cardio could be very boring and tiring and the weights are time consuming so why you keep doing it?
As for me my simple answer it to be strong. But this answer is too general for me as to my goal because if you ask anyone “would you like to be strong?” it has an obvious answer for many.
Strength for many is the ability to carry heavy object around or crushing nuts with bare hands. But for me strength has greater meaning than that. It is the ability to survive critical situation. You might not know what is going to happen in the future but with strength you potential to survive harmful diseases, adventure in the middle of the desert or even to live long enough to be a grandparent is part of survival. As survival you need strength and a lot of it.
To gain strength you have to go out of you comfort zone because anyone who says there is a special formula for you to get strength might be just wasting your time. When you go out of you comfort zone and reach to you limit you not only gain physical strength but also mental.
On every training session you miss it not just you missed on training session but you reduce your ability to obtain greater strength. You could have some coach around you and cheat during you training by not give you 110% but that is only cheating yourself. You have to have always the mentality of survival during you training session.
As for competitive part of survival remember that when you sitting in front of the TV there is another inspired bodybuilder, figure model, boxer, gymnastic, football player…etc who been training hard to obtain strength to beat you or obtain you goal. There are some goals like a winner of Flex Magazine model 2010 have only one spot. So if you miss out on one day of training remember that somewhere around there is a person who is working hard to obtain you one spot goal. And if you are a late bloomer you have to work twice as hard as you competitors.
Everything is within you reach some might take long time other might be quick. But remember sometimes you might have long time you reach you goal but once you reach it won’t all go to waste because you worked hard not to lose it. Thus you not only gained physical strength but also mental strength, which is the ability to withstand pain and discomfort.

Couple of last words I that is on my mind is about starting to train and commitment.
Never ever over plan you goal or you end up not doing it. Just take confidence in yourself on you plan and just do it. If you are a perfectionist you won’t start you training quick so that means you goals would take long time. We are human and we tend to make mistake. It okay that if you fall down once in awhile there is nothing wrong with that. Trying to make everything perfect at once won’t make you start your goal. Instead you will always have excuse that you want to start strong or perfect but that type of thing won’t happen if you don’t start at all.
Always have commitment on you training. If you feel you are committed to it you won’t always have to come to it. The commitment not only makes you go to your training session but it pumps you up mentality before coming to train. Sometimes you won’t goal in the time you though predicted to which could cause frustration. But as long as you keep moving forward little by little you going to reach you goal and it might even have more meaning to it.

Too Much Cola Can Cause Muscle Problems

WEDNESDAY, May 27 (HealthDay News) — Drinking too much cola can increase the risk of a muscle problem called hypokalemia, experts warn.

In people with hypokalemia, a drop in blood potassium levels results in problems with vital muscle functions. Symptoms can range from mild weakness to serious paralysis, say Greek researchers who conducted a review of people who drank between two to nine liters of cola a day.

Two of the patients were pregnant women who were admitted to hospital with low potassium levels. One was a 21-year-old woman who drank up to three liters of cola a day and complained of fatigue, appetite loss and persistent vomiting. An electrocardiogram revealed she had a heart blockage, and blood tests showed she had low potassium levels, the researchers explained in a news release.

The second pregnant patient, who’d consumed up to seven liters of cola a day for 10 months, had low potassium levels and was suffering from increasing muscular weakness, the researchers noted.

Both patients made a rapid and full recovery after they stopped drinking cola and took oral or intravenous potassium. The case studies are described in the June issue of the International Journal of Clinical Practice.

“We are consuming more soft drinks than ever before, and a number of health issues have already been identified including tooth problems, bone demineralization and the development of metabolic syndrome and diabetes,” and there’s increasing evidence that excessive cola consumption leads to hypokalemia, Dr. Moses Elisaf, of the University of Ioannina, said in the news release.

Elisaf said the three most common ingredients in cola — glucose, fructose and caffeine — can contribute to hypokalemia.

“The individual role of each of these ingredients in the pathophysiology of cola-induced hypokalemia has not been determined and may vary in different patients,” Elisaf said. “However, in most of the cases we looked at for our review, caffeine intoxication was thought to play the most important role. This has been borne out by case studies that focus on other products that contain high levels of caffeine but no glucose or fructose.”

However, “caffeine-free cola products can also cause hypokalemia because the fructose they contain can cause diarrhea,” Elisaf said.

Hydroxycut could cause death in worst case scenrio

May 1, 2009

read the report here:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090501/ap_on_he_me/us_med_diet_pill_recall

also quote from the report about supplement:

Dietary supplements aren’t as tightly regulated by the government as medications. Manufacturers don’t need to prove to the FDA that their products are safe and effective before they can sell them to consumers. But regulators monitor aftermarket reports for signs of trouble, and in recent years companies have been put under stricter requirements to alert the FDA when they learn of problems."

which gives though about other supplements in the market

Don’t forget to breath

March 10, 2009

I notice sometimes our training get so intestive that we forget the most basic stuff such as breathing.

People may laugh at this statment but it basicly true.

When training people should learn how to breath well and exhale/inhale as you contract you muscle and relax .

I alway concentrate on that part espeicaly when seeing Kung Fu movie and Jojo’s Bizzarre Adventure even if some of the things they put it is fake but there is some facts into it so I try to use it abit.

Breathing also will give you better core which means good abdominal.

I read from one of Jonh Wood’s email that Japanese Samuria usally train there war cry and it comes from the abdominal which release greater energy when striking.

Remember there are people who dedicated part of there exercise just for breathing is it is Yoga or Tai Chi or other forms of breathing exercise there are many people train it.
