WRIST IS HEALED! was it the cissus?

September 21, 2009

I am verry happy to write this blog. Because as you can guess from the title my wrist is finally healed! Its been over 11 months since I broke it. and it has been a long, hard, & unbearabley frustrating road to recovery! I got my x-ray & the bone has completley nitted & with the screw in it should be even stronger than before. Still I have an extreme ammount of pain in my wrist when it bends backwards. The doc says this is from internal scar tissue & the extensive immobilisation (6 months) & the tendons may not be fully healed yet anyway. So I am a long way from being able to do a push up of throw any power in a punch. But at least I can push in my workouts & not have to worry about doing more dammage to the break. I’m realy pleased & exited to be back on track! Hoping to do big things in the new year!

Interesting to note is that 1 months before my final x-ray I started taking ‘cissus’ because there was a chance it would speed the healing of the fracture. Up untill that point there was little progress in the healing. & at my penulitimate x-ray the doc gave me another 3 - 8 months! Yet at my xray 3 months later the bone was completley healed! It could be it would have healed anyway, or it could be the cissus. there is no way to tell. but I would be interested to hear if anyone else has seen positive results from taking cissus?

CRASH BANG!….again

July 19, 2009

So I was riding home from work - I had been carrying logs all moarning, that weighed between 80 & 200+ pounds each! I was totally exhausted & a bit spaced out, which I suppose is the reason for what happened next - I was on a flat cycle path and going full speed, and for some reason looking at the sky instead of the path. Suddenly I strange feeling passed through me and something made me look down. I had a fraction of a millisecond in which I realised I was about to run straight in to a 4 ft post, that was at least 1 foot wide & set solid in concrete…. and that it was going to hurt ……. BANG… I was probably traveling close to 20 mph and this post was as solid as a wall! I flew off the bike, which subsequently summersaulted on top of me. But I at least had the presence of mind to cradle my broken wrist & turn on my shoulder. I landed very hard, first on my left arm, then on my head. I got up quickly after a curse, and surveyed the damage…. Huge chunk of skin missing from shoulder ( right where I wanted to get a tatto!! ) many cuts & grases, a swolen forearm and a pulled groin (dont ask how cus I dont know) With a sigh I got back on my bike to find the fromt wheel totally bent. I rode a wobbley bike to subway, got my sandwhich as planned & sat down to eat & reflect on the sheer stupidity of what just happened! If I had seen someone else do what I had just done I would probably have been crying from laughter, Its one of those things you see in the movies but not very often are people actually that stupid in real life….. Anyway just a few more scars for the collection.

Rid my woes with the colision of muscle and iron!

April 29, 2009

So I was feeling verry down today after I had my check up at the doctors (read previous blog) So I went to the gym feeling angry and frustrated and I took it out on the iron with renewed vigor! I have resolved that I’m not gonna let another 6 weeks get me down and I’m just gonna work my dam hardest doing what I can to maintain what size I havent already lost.

So the workout……..

3 ,3 minute rounds on the heavy bag

1 arm dumbell press 70lb 12 reps, 10 reps, 8 reps, 7 reps

snatch 2 push press 100 pound dumbell for 8 reps, then 6 , then 5

1 arm side raises 35 pounds for 15 reps, 12 reps, 10 reps

Then I did a Tri set for my left arm (the broken one) - 1 arm side lateral machine, whole stack + 45 pound plate for 25 reps, on to the tricep machine, whole stack for 30 reps, then Curls with a yoga band looped around my splint (this gives an insane pump)

Then during the rest time I did the peck dec, 100 pounds for 15 reps, total of 6 sets all done in rest time between left arm tri sets

Repeated left arm tri set 4 times finishing with- 1 arm side lateral machine whole stack + 100 pound plate for 10 reps, then 8 then 6. 1 arm tricep machine whole stack + 45 pound plate 15 reps, yoga band curls to failure.

Then I did forearm exercises for my good arm. 6 sets of dropset reverse cable curls, superseted with strict hammer curls, Then 6 sets of wrist curls superseted with holding dumbell twists.

It was a great workout! and I’m feeling a bit better now :)

GIVE ME STREGNTH!!!

April 29, 2009

I am SOOOOO frustrated and dissapointed right now! Today was 6 weeks after my surgery - 5 months and 1 week since the break - and I was verry optimistic that I would be given the all clear. But It was just the same as the last check up ‘’ see me in another 6 weeks ‘’ when he said those words I sank into a huge hole. ALL this time I’ve not been able to do any sports, any real lifting….ANYTHING. and now another 6 weeks….. I have been very motivated throught these long months but Today realy got me down. I’ve lost about 7 pounds of muscle from my chest and back, over an inch from my left upper arm, and obviousley my left forearm is like a twig! Yeah yeah so it could be worse, but it has been sooooooooooo hard because I’m such an active person. So much agression and energy just stewing away. ’sigh’ I can do nothing other than wait. But this is just such bad timing. It would have been so great to be healed by the summer, and God dam it! I was hoping to be fit to fight by aughust/ september. I dont know how it will pan out now. I need something to focus on. something to actually aim for instead of waiting, hoping , and being let down. As of today I am going to work extra hard on my abs. They’re o.k but in 3 weeks I want them to be awsome. Also I can work my left tricep on the tricep machine so from now on I’m gonna realy hammer it and try to build a bit of size back.

Welcome!

March 3, 2009

So I finally got surgery on my wrist today. They put a screw through the bone to hold it together, and now it should heal in about 3 months. The surgery went well and I am hoping  to be back in the gym tomorrow. Already been in cast for 3 1/2 months but at least now I know that it will heal and I have a more reliable time scale on things.
