Sunday and still heading down…

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

This is the first Sunday in months that I am down from the day before.  Only a half a pound, but what a great feeling to know I didn’t throw myself in the river on a Saturday…Looking forward to a big week.  For real this time!

Clean Saturday!!!

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Finishing up a Clean eating Saturday…That is huge for propelling me into a big week! Went to Blowing Rock for the day, and didn’t give in to the Kilwin’s ice cream either! I said to myself "I would rather have a bit of Gelato in Rome next summer than a bite of Kilwins now".  Looking forward to tomorrow.  New preacher is in the pulpit, and the boy can bring it!!!  Planning on getting in a workout before church in the morning.

Quick update…

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

I was down 3.2 lbs. for the week.  Ate pretty good considering I was traveling in Texas all week.  Tex Mex, Beef, Blue Bell Ice Cream, and Dr. Pepper in bottles made with sugar instead of syrup…Texas has all the food trigger’s for me.  But I said no a lot to food temptations, but yes a couple of times. (Ate a petite filet instead of a bone-in ribeye etc.)  Did count my points and stayed on track, but only exersized once due to the cruddy hotels my rep put us in.  I am making the reservations next trip to TX!!!  Matthew was down .4 lbs., and Mark hasn’t reported for duty yet… He is supposed to weight at a later meeting today.

Glad I kept things headed in the right direction! I needed a pretty good week while being on the road.  Every day I have choices to make.  I will be in town all this week, so I am planning for a BIG loss!!!  I really need a 5+ pounder to get the big momentum headed in the right direction.  Anyway, have a great weekend.

Sat update

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Dad didn’t weigh, but he is basically staying around his goal weight so I am going to take him off the updates… I had my first recorded loss in over 2 months!  Although it is a measly .6 lbs., it is still a loss, and shows that I have finally turned the corner back the other direction.  Matthew was down 1.6 lbs. and now has a total loss of 81.6 lbs.  So he basically has 30 lbs. to go to reach his goal.  Mark was up 3.4 lbs. and is still fighting to get back in the groove as I was for the past many weeks.

I am once again at the point where there is no time to spare.  (Same place I was back in April before dad moved the date from July 31st to December 15th)  I am not in a un-doable yet, but some big losses are needed to be on track.  5 months to loose 65 lbs. is definitely pushing it!!!  Headed to TX this week for business, so focus and discipline in my eating is paramount!

Sun. July 11

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

I was up 2 over the last few weeks since I had weighed in a WW’s.  Actually, I lost 9 in the past 2 weeks to get to only having a 2 lbs. gain. I really let loose on my Chicago trip…Gene&Georgetti’s….Giordano’s…
etc.  All the "G’s" in Chicago area will kill you.  We also ate with some friends in WI at an awesome Italian rest. and I got loose in the turns there as well.  So my week at the beach and this past week were actually good weeks. My brother Matthew was up .2 for the past 2 weeks.  Dad is in Europe for two weeks, so obviously no weigh-in.  Mark was a no-show.  I have updated all of my measurements and I am going to update my progress pics this morning as well.  Matthew made a good point, that I have not been doing either regularly since I have been heading in the wrong direction.  And he is right!  And since measurements and pics tell the tale better than anything, I will make sure to get back to updating them weekly \ monthly as before.  This should be some motivation.  Actually…motivation was the date night I had with my lovely wife last night and wearing the size 40 BKE jeans that were quite snuggly as compared to 2 months ago.  Almost down right miserable.  But I gave my 42’s to Goodwill, and sweat pants wouldn’t have been appropriate considering how HOT my wife was looking in her get-up.

So here I am…turning 40 in 6 weeks, and a now 65 lbs. to lose by December 15th of this year or I cost my wife and kids a free trip to Europe.  That will not happen!  The clean eating over the past 2 weeks has returned my energy and strength in the weight room (kettlebells, bike, swimming, elliptical), and mentally I feel I am finally back as well.  I am back to measuring my portions (man were those out of whack!!!) and tracking all my points in the WW on-line tools.  My brother Matthew is also an ispiration because he looks so good, and I know that is where I am headed.  Although we are going after a little different body types since he is more of a runner and I am not, our genetic builds are so close he gives me a good picture of where I am headed.  He is now 30 lbs. or so a head of me.

Therefore, if you are reading this, you will probably see a lot more blogging, and weekly updates on measurements along with monthly pic updates.  This will aid in some of the personal accountability I need.

Have a great week!

1Corinthians 9:27 must be lived out in the area of my weight!

Friday July 3 update

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I have had a good week of clean eating, and I can certainly feel it in my workouts…Did KB’s this morning and followed up with a qtr mile swim. KB workout: 4 rounds C&P 8 L&R Superset with 12 L&R suitcase rows (24KG); 3 rounds goblet squat x 12 (24kg) SS w\ 15 elevated push-ups; 3 rounds windmills (20 KG up and one down) ss w\ 10 leg raises; then 6 rounds 25 reps overspeed swings (24kg) ss w\ 1:30 active rest on treadmill. Did the qtr mile in 9:06.  Tough swim after 4 sets of C&P….

Got in a protein shake and a egg beater on wheat for breakfast.  This eating clean and excersizing regularly is a lot easier when I don’t have to work.  Might need to break down and buy a lottery ticket…

July 1st update…

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

We are all down at Dad’s Daniel Island house for the week and I am glad to be here. My travel schedule for the past 6 weeks coupled with my lack of effort and mental state of mind has had me in a bad place. Lack of focus, lack of energy (from eating unhealthy). dragging workouts (from having bad fuel in my body), and just a general feeling that I may not be able to get off the 2nd half of this weight.  I planned on using this week of no work and no time schedule to get back on track.  A "cleansing" week I have been calling it.  And I am proud to say that up till this morning, that is exactly what is happening…

Taking all supplements. Drinking my whey after each workout. Counting my Weight Watchers points. The fitness center here on the Island has KB’s up to a set of 53’s, so I didn’t even have to bring mine. So I get up every morning and drink some coffee on the back porch with my dad and bro’s then ride a bike to the gym. Get in the ole’ workout, swim a qtr to a half mile in the lap pool, steam, shower, and then come back home and make a clean breakfast to get my day off in the right direction.  It is also helping that my dad and stepmom are making clean meals for dinner every night for the entire group. The running joke is "which form of chicken are we having tonight".  But actually Dad has made some phoenominal meatballs with turkey as well.

I needed this week to get things back in order and re-gain my focus and energy.  It is hard to keep my focus if I haven’t been eating clean because it so effects energy levels, which effects workouts, which then effects focus…  It is a big circle…good or bad is up to me.

We will not being weighing in down here on Saturday since they are closed for the 4th. But I really need a STRONG loss on the 11th.  I mean, I need to be back to the 275 or under mark with 55lbs. to go. December will be here before I know it and next year I don’t want to be the only family down here at Daniel Island for July 4th vacation while the rest of my entire extended family is in Italy for 10 days!!!

Weekly update…

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Dad was down 2.6 lbs. so he is back at a 201.6 lbs. loss, which is 11.6 lbs. from the goal the doctor has set for him. I continued a terrible trend and was up .2 lbs. Which means I am up 13.3 lbs. from 3 months ago.  So not only have I basically had a huge opportunity cost by not loosing, I have backed up 13.3 lbs.! That is horrible. I can tell in my workouts that my eating is off because I am just dragging through them. I don’t feel that extra something there when working with the kettlebells, biking, or swimming. BUT…this morning I came home and prepared a clean and absolutely healthy breakfast for my group. Fruit Smoothie in the Vita-mix, and egg white omelet with veggies and turkey sausage. I am traveling a bunch this coming week, but as I told me wife, if I can get through today that will propel me to a good week.  Workouts will be tough to fit in as I am driving for two days, and then have another trip to Chicago mid week. But next Friday we are headed to the Daniel Island house to vacation with ALL the family. I am sure to have a great week there because the fitness center there is world-class, and my whole family will be at the pool all day and taking the nightly bike rides behind my Dad as he smokes his evening cigar. (looks like a daddy duck and 15 or so chicks weaving around the island…)  I am looking forward to a vacation with my family! Matthew was up .6. Mark is in FL working so he didn’t weigh-in.

Have a great week! I would appreciate any prayers that I would re-gain the focus needed to complete this task!

Finally…a clean Sunday of eating!!!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

So this is what it feels like to wake up on Monday knowing you didn’t throw yourself in the river on the Weekend day before…I even made it through the ole’ dinner on the grounds after church to welcome the new preacher. Fortunately one person made grilled chicken with roasted vegetables. Skipped dessert and just drank the water.

One Year mark for Duncan boys

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Well today’s weigh-in was the one year mark since we started our program.  Unfortunately we have all backed up from some low weight points of a month or so ago, but the numbers are still pretty good.  Dad has lost 62.6 in a year, I am down 51.4 in a year, Matthew is down 78.4 in a year, and Mark is down 37 lbs. in a year.  So the total loss for the 4 of us is 229.4 lbs. in a year as a group.  The bothersome part is what we all were down at one point…Dad was down 68, me 65, Matthew 84, and Mark 50.  We all need to get re-focused and make smart decisions through-out the entire week.  Weekends continue to be a killer for everyone due to lack of focus and commitment.  6 months until the journey for the trip is officially over, and although that seems like a long time, as we have now found it goes by fast and the weight loss is a struggle of ups and downs, so we cannot put off hitting it hard any longer.
