Having a pretty good week. I have had one day of eating bad, but I am making sure I am clean the rest of the week. I am still a little put-off by only a 1 pound loss this past week simply due to the fact that I busted my rear in the gym last week! I counted it up…from a week ago Saturday till this past Saturday morning, I worked out 18 times in that time span! Each workout was a full one. (about an hour) 13 of them were on the Cancun trip with some of them being under the supervision of a personal trainer. Heck…last Thursday I did an hour of Kettlebells in the morning and then swam a mile in the afternoon…
It just goes to show that it is not as easy to figure out the human body as calories in calories out. There are physiological issues that certainly come into play. Just watch the Biggest Looser and you will see the same thing! Anyway, I am headed to the Y to get in a KB workout. I need to buy a 62 lbs KB for my C&P’s since I am now getting 4×8 with the 53 very smoothly. Time to step it up. Can’t forget the old KB adage…to press a lot…you must press a lot…sounds like Yogi Beara was a Gyrevik.
Have a good rest of the week! 1 Corinthians 9:27

I am down another pound for 68.6 total and new weight of 265.8 lbs.; I expected to do better this week, but considering I spent 5 days at an all-inclusive 5 star resort in Cancun this week, a 1 lbs. loss isn’t that bad. I worked out multiple times per day, and with a trainer some. I also ordered and ate very clean at meals, but I obviously had more BLT’s than I had figured in…(bites, licks, and tastes!) The rigorous training schedule from this past week should propel me to have an even better week this week coming up. I gotta keep humping to Dec. 12th so that the "interest" payments to my dad are achievable. Obviously his new plan to give us 3 more months to make the goal weights but with stipulations is working…
Matthew was up .4 this week for a new total loss of 93.6 lbs. and a new weight of 237 lbs., Matthew did some traveling this week, and must have tripped up on some hotdogs or soft pretzels while at the Phillies game he attended Monday night while in PA. Not sure what the ballpark meat of choice is in Philly. If he would have been at Wrigley, then we all know the bratwurst would be the culprit. But overall, Matthew is still setting the standard for others to follow…when he gets off the reservation, it is not a total blow-out, and he always gets back on the horse. No wonder he is down 93.6 pounds with just 17 to go to meet his goal;
Mark came in at dead even which puts him at a 39.4 lbs. loss and a new weight of 225.2 lbs. Mark had a good week of workouts and ate clean. But as we have all experienced on this journey, once you make the decision to do things right again, it takes a couple of weeks to get the big mo’ on your side again. (momentum for those of you non-athletic types)
Bear in mind Matthew and I have to be at 220 lbs. to meet our goal, and Mark has to be at 200 lbs.
Dad is still "hovering" (I use that term very loosely) around his goal weight. He has been out of town the last two weekends. Last weekend at the State Fair enjoying deep fried Snicker Bars, and this weekend at his Daniel Island home where he went to his favorite steak house The Oak House…home of the 36 oz. bone-in ribeye! Be interested to see if he has the strength to walk in and weigh next Saturday with all the fasting and Ex-lax it is going to take to make up for that program…:-)
Anyway, have a great week. The Duncan Boy’s are still in the fight. Plan on being on the cover of a Weight Watchers magazine by next July’s edition!

Okay…Dad is still hovering around his goal weight, so he is doing a great job of maintaining. I was up 4 lbs. for the week which is horrible for a new total loss of 66 lbs. Matthew was down 1.2 lbs. for a new loss of 92.4 lbs., and Mark was up .6 for a new total loss of 36.8 lbs.
Looking out at the final weigh-in date of December 12 (just 9 weeks away) has caused the realization that neither Mark nor myself are really at a point to make it. Mark would have to average right at 3 lbs. per week to make it which he cannot do, and I would have to average 5.3 lbs. per week which is impossible. Matthew is at a point where he should be able to slide in safely, but still has to average a hair over 2 lbs. per week which is acheivable with no margin for error. Based on these facts (and the fact that the tickets for the trip don’t really have to be bought until next Spring for the trip next summer) Dad has come through with a very gracious revision to the trip.
Now…you have to be a banker to figure it out, but I have copy and pasted the new reprieve straight from Dad’s email which is below:
December 12 th is the present date to make the agreed to goal weight.
Those who do not make the weight on or before that date will be given a loan of 3 months to make the weight.
The loan has weekly interest of 50% of the weekly loss needed to make the weight on March 12th. The principal of the weekly amount needed to make the weight by March can be reduced as much as possible but the interest of ½ of the weekly quota must be made EVERY week or the loan is called due and the extra time is over. This means it is imperative to get as much weight off as possible before the Dec 12th weigh in to reduce the weekly quota/ weekly interest payment.
For example; If on Dec 12th—a person has 36 pounds to go to make the goal by March 12th.—-that leaves a 3 pound per week quota with weekly interest of a MINIMUM of 1.5 pounds per week. IF ANY WEEK GOES BY WITHOUT THE MINIMUM WEIGHT LOSS OF 1.5 POUNDS OCCURS—THE LOAN IS CALLED DUE AND THE GAME IS OVER FOR THAT PER SON.
For example; If on Dec 12th—a person has 6 pounds to go to make the goal by March 12th—that leaves a ½ pound per week quota and a minimum of .2 weekly loss interest payment. This is important to consider as if any week occurs with a weight game of any kind—game is over too.
If the goal weight is made by Dec 12th—there is no weekly quota or minimum loss needed but the goal weight must be maintained as shown on ONE FINAL weigh in on March 12th.
When the goal weight is made the weekly quota and minimum is suspended and all that is required to make the trip is to weigh that amount plus or minus 3% on March 12th.
The goal weight must be made by March 12th—that is the bottom line!!!! This deal gives a time extension with the necessity of weekly positive results. When I gave the last reprieve some of us went to the trough and pigged out. Do that one week in the new deal and the game is over.
Hope this is understood and taken in the positive light is created. I want everyone to make the trip and especially want everyone to reach their personal weight goals for their own health and psychological welfare.
Lovingly given
Dad

Dad is at a golf tourney. I was down .6 lbs. for a new total loss of 66 lbs. even. 48 to go! Matthew didn’t weigh due to cutting his finger to the bone the week in a freak accident. He had to have major surgery to repair a tendon and nerves. Slipped in the garage on some water while trying to get a Weight Watcher ice cream bar…he fell on a flower pot that broke and cut his ring finger to the bone! Fortunately Matthew is only 16 lbs. or so from his goal loss of 113 lbs. so he can stay tight on his eating and still make his goal weight. Mark was down .6 lbs. and has 27 lbs. to go to meet his goal. And our ole’ buddy Scott is still trucking with a 4.3 lbs. loss this week. He is down about 52 lbs. now I believe.
I had an okay week, obviously Labor day camping trip got me some, as well as the dinner I had at the Brazilian Steak house…you know the one’s where they keep cutting the meat as long as the green is showing on the table…I really don’t need to say more. I am headed to Vegas in the morning for 4 days, but believe it or not I usually loose very well there. Being a man that doesn’t drink in excess, cheat on my wife, gamble, and is trying to eat good…there is nothing else to do but excersize and work! So I am taking plenty of workout clothes and I plan on having a big week this week. I typically loose in cycles anyway, Big, Medium, and then a small week. That pattern has followed course over the last 3 weeks, so it is time for a big week. Goal is a 6 lbs. loss…let’s see what happens!

Camping this weekend for labor day, so had to weigh-in this morning. Down 4.4 from last weigh-in for a new total loss of 65.4 lbs. and a new low for the last 15 years!!! 269 lbs. I have 49 to go to meet my goal and qualify for the trip to Rome and the cruise my father is offering. Must be done by Dec. 15th. This may kill me, but I WILL make it.

Well I have hit the big 40!!! My goal was to be at 220 by my birthday, but I came up short. I am however at my lowest weight (as of this morning) in 15 years, which is a celebration of sorts. I WILL make my goal of 220 by this December 15th… I will post a one year progress pic later today or tomorrow for comparison of me "posing" in the bus driver of the year shirt my buddy gave me last year at my party. I am feeling some better focus now that I am in my 4th decade of life. I am very pleased with who I am, where I am, and where I am going. This should be an exciting decade coming up as I will most likely see my Daughter get to the age she marries, my oldest son graduate college, and my youngest son enter college…What a thrilling next 10 years I have to look forward to!!! And you can bet your rear-end I want to do it in the best shape of my life so I can enjoy it to the fullest. That is why I MUST complete the journey I am on to reach the physical goals I have set for myself. The unbelievable trip my father and step mom are offering up is a HUGE bonus, but the real celebration will be in the abundant life I will be able to live every day by being in shape and being able to do all the things I enjoy doing with my family and friends. Speaking of which, we are going camping this weekend with some other family’s and to be able to do the hiking and playing in the woods as an active daddy will be the type of reward I am looking for…
Have a great week, and I hope everyone can feel the satisfaction that comes with turning 40 that I have this week. God’s truths are the key…1 Corinthians 9:27!

Dad is still hovering just over his goal weight, so he is down 1.6 lbs. this week. Needs to get off the other 5 he has put on over the last few weeks of traveling. I was down 5 lbs. this past week for a new loss of 61 lbs. Just 3.8 from getting back to where I was! Matthew was down .6 for a new total loss of 90.2 lbs.!!! Getting close to the 100 lbs. mark, and he is just 20.6 lbs. from his overall goal! Mark didn’t weigh. Scott was down 2.4 lbs. for a new loss of 48 lbs.
I weighed a day early due to this past Friday being my anniversary and Kelly and I went to Charleston for the weekend. 16 years…starting to get some nice sounding years to my marriage. Shooting for a minimum of 65 years! I didn’t want to interrupt my morning yesterday by having to go weigh in while in Charleston. The meeting is not until 10:00 AM down there, and that would have killed coffee and talking, which is one of our fav things to do on date weekends! I ate pretty good. Enjoyed Thai food Friday night, and finally made it to my Dad’s favorite steak house, The Oak House, on Saturday night. And yes…I passed on the 36 oz bone-in ribeye and instead had the 7 oz filet! I saved a lot of WW points for the meal to cover the bread and creamed spinach. I ate perfect today, and I am going to have another big week this week! It is nice to have focus again.
Just 7 weeks until our trip to Cancun, so I have a nice interim point to focus on while heading to the final weigh-in of December 15th.
Have a great week!

Dad is up to 207.2 over the last few weeks which is 7.2 over his goal, so he will need to tighten back up. It is going to be just as hard for us all to learn to eat with a moderate lifestyle and not gain the weight back as it is for us to loose the weight…I was up 1.2 for the week. Matthew was down .6 lbs.; and Mark got back in the game with a 4.6 lbs. loss!
Needless to say I cannot at this point afford any off weeks like I just had. The travel schedule and hanging out with old friends all week while my family traveled with me got my eating relaxed, and ZERO workouts for the week. Actually, 1.2 lbs. gain isn’t too bad considering the week I had. I must come back hard this week. The key of course is to protect the weekend eating…If I can get thru to Monday morning without getting off base I can have a great week.

I was down 3.2 lbs. this week for a new total of 57.2 lbs.; Matthew was down another 3 lbs. for a new total gone of 89 lbs.! He is just 22 lbs. from his goal weight…Mark was a no-show. And Scott was up 2.2 lbs. for a new total of 43.4 lbs. loss. Dad of course is on maintenance, and actually is in Washington DC this weekend with 5 of the older grandkids doing the tour D.C. thing. Hope they don’t eat as many M&M’s in the car as we did growing up or he’ll have some loosing to do when he gets back tomorrow!
Starting the comments section of the blog, I want to say I am very proud of my little brother Matthew! He has the momentum going in the right direction. He is obviously eating right and certainly has stepped up his running and swimming. He is also working on adding some weight training into his regiment. We are even discussing the possibility of introducing him to kettlebells. I had a very good week considering I traveled for 2 days with some customer meals that I remained clean with, and vacationed for 2 days in the mountains. The travel causes boredom and stress, and the vacationing causes great relaxation…Both of these situations can cause me some trouble when it comes to staying on course with my eating. I have missed some workouts over the last week, but this only proved out the truth that my eating is the key! I will be traveling this week 4 days on business, but my family is going with me to see some friends in TN while I work. Should be able to get in 2-3 days of exersize out of the 4 days. I may try and get in a KB session with Dave Whitely (irontamer.com) while in Nashville. But it is a little tough to carve out time in the evening or morning when my family is with me.
I am glad to see my focus has returned, and my will power is on point thus causing me to be disciplined in my eating. I still need one of those Biggest Looser 6 lbs. plus weeks to get stay on track. I have basically 18.5 weeks to loose 58 more lbs. That is a 3.1351 lbs loss per week going forward!!!

Dad is still hovering around his goal weight. He is up a little, but that is after a trip to Europe and a golf tourney last weekend, so no worries there. I was down 1 lbs. this week, for a new total loss of 54. Matthew came in strong throwing up a 3.8 lbs. loss for a new total loss of 86 lbs.; Mark stopped the bleeding and came in even for a 31.6 total loss, and our buddy Scott lost 1.5 for a new total loss of 46.3.
Personally, I am VERY let down with only loosing a pound this week. I have stuck the eating for the last 7 days, and I am not sure why I was not down more. Heck, I was down the pound 4 days ago, and actually ate less WW points the last few days than I am allowed. I didn’t drink much water yesterday due to being so busy at work, but that shouldn’t have mattered. Oh well, I must stay on point this weekend and fight thru the frustration. It should come back to me with a big week this week. I have one overnight trip scheduled, but other than that I am in town. I also have a new interim goal date of Oct. 17th (my wife’s birthday). We are headed to Cancun with 30 other couples, and I want to be in as good a shape as possible. I HAVE to be at the 243 mark to be on track to make 220 by December anyway. So that is exciting and a great motivator for both Kelly and I.
I hurt my foot playing raquetball yesterday and could barely walk the rest of the day. I have been icing it, and taking Ibuprofen. I did workout this morning, and just finished 18 holes of golf with my son with no problems. I sure can’t afford to injure myself right now. My focus is on, and I feel the momentum with me. Hope everyone reading this has a great rest of the weekend.
