Dealing with things

August 7, 2008

I have been back training for a while, but not really posting anything to my blog.  I have been reading those that catch my eye and looking at the picture of those transformations that inspire me.  I have always loved to work out but bodybuilding is very different.  It’s one thing to test your body and mind to the fullest in the gym and its a whole different thing to eat the same thing day in and out for 5 to 6 meals.  Its easy to get tired if your results are slow and you are watching others acheive there goals with seemingly minimum effort.  But if you really want something you cant get it by doing nothing and if you get it by doing nothing you have really earned it.  So I am back to the 45 min of cardio, back to the meat and brocolli  and back to the training. After all, " The end justifies the means."

Adaptation

November 3, 2007

We must make the best of those ills which cannot be avoided.
    -Alexander Hamilton

About 3 weeks ago I hurt my back, I really don’t know if it was when I was doing front squats or while doing back, all I know is that it was hurting.  Long story short this was my first week back in the gym, I have only went twice this week with tomorrow being day three, if the Lord is willing.

I am saying all this to say that I was bound and determined to work legs today.  So what I did was adapted my routine so that I could work my quads without hurting my back and I got a really good workout! I have also adapted my diet to make it more efficent since my intesity is not the same on some exercises.

What I have learned is that there is always hope if your willing to adapt.

Back to the gym

October 30, 2007

I went back to the gym today, I had to, tired of not working out.  It’s funny I have been working out for off and on(mainly on) for at least twenty years.  During that time I have really never had to miss a work out ,unless I wanted to, but never because of an injury.  But, I guess as you get older the body changes.  I have lifted some heavy weight in my life and ran a lot of miles on these legs.  I guess every action has consequences.  But, I love to work out and have since I was twelve, so as long as the Lord lets me, I’ll workout! My back has had me down about two weeks but I had to go in today and just see how I felt, it was great! I’m just going to go one day at a tlme and just see how I feel. I love this stuff man and I pray I can continue until the day I leave this earth!

Cell phones in the gym, What’s up with that!

October 13, 2007

I have never been a big fan of cell phones, but nowadays with the current state of the world, I guess you need one.  But, do really need to be on the phone while you are working out?  I just don’t see how you can reallly focus on working out while you are talking on your phone.  Whether you have one of those little ear buds or the entire cell phone , can you really workout hard and focus while talking on the phone. Shoot, I would be scarred that  I would really injure myself, or some one else, especially with the kind of weight I use.

Well anyway, I was in the gym this morning and working out hard, so I keep hearing the guy about 3 or 4 feet from me saying something but there was no one around us.  Come to find out , the guy is talking on the phone the whole time he is doing incline dumbell press.  I just thought to myself it’s no way I could give 100 percent intensity and make a mind muscle connection while holding a conversation on the phone.  Well at least he was using a ear bud.

I remember this other fellow, that use to come to the gym, when I was working out in the evenings.  He would stay on the phone the whole time he was in the gym.  He would be on the Incline bench press with his phone on his ear and his head leaned over on his shoulder, talking as he lifted.  I guess you could get a workout like that, but not me! Yea, I bring my phone and pager to the gym, but I sure don’t talk on my phone while I’m working out!  I guess everyone comes to the gym for different reasons, but I come to workout!

Minor Setbacks

September 14, 2007

Life is full of minor setbacks, and like its has been said many times, it does not really matter what the set back is, its what you do next is what matters.

When I first started back training, after having had my gallblader surgery, I noticed a bump on my face.  Think it was just a hair bump since I shave every other day(both my head and face) I though it was the usually hair bump.  But it was not a hair bump it turned into a boil.  And here I am six weeks latter a 6 boils latter going to the doctor.  Well you know I am a man and it took the last two to let me know that something was not normal.  I thought it was just the change in my diet or the buffalo meat that I was eating, but come to find out it may be a stafh infection.  The doctor said that several cases were going around and they did not know were people were getting it from.  Well I started on the antibiotics yesterday and I have to  check back in 6 days for the test.  I have never been a componet of spraying down each exercise machine that I use, unless I sweat on them or if some one else has, but I will be from now on.  At least I know what it might be.  Any cut or bruise or open area of your skin can become infected.  Shoot, I have shaved and went to the gym before not realizing that I was leaving myself open for infection.  But, God is good and you learn from your mistake. Now there is hand santizer and Lysol everywhere in this house!

Sometimes its hard waking up at 3 AM!

September 9, 2007

This has been a slow week for me. First,  I missed the first two days of going to the gym by oversleeping.  Then on the fourth day of the week I over slept again.  But this time I decided i was going to the gym anyway, even if it meant I would probably only have around an hour to shower, cook and be at my desk for the day.  Its a good thing I work from home! I was also recovering from a slight groin puil I received from running sprints with my daughter last week.  I took it easy on the cardio and did a lot of stretching and I was able to run this week. What I did learn this week was ,you have to be able to adapt your life to deal with different situations if you want to succeed! I love this stuff man!

Day One(Wednesday)

September 5, 2007

Today was my first day back at the gym this week.  I usually take Mondays off unless I am feeling really good.  But I pulled my groin this Saturday running sprints with My daughter so I decided to take another day of rest this week.  So I guess I will be working out this Saturday before we go runining.  My wife and my two boys have also joined us and this week My sister-in-law is coming so it will be a family affair which is great. Well I am just enjoying the ride.

Work Out Finished time to run

August 31, 2007

Wrll my weight training is over for the week.  I still have two days of cardio to do but I love the sprints on the weekend because I do them with my daughter how is getting ready for track.  I am looking forward to my Saturday cheat day just to break up the monotony of eating every two hours.  I worked hamstrings and calves today which after doing quads on Wednesday is cake.  I love the workouts, I have since I was twelve working out is what I love to do.  But I know that I have to rest to get the most out of my workouts.  So I love the weekends even though with my job I never no when work will call.

Three Weeks Down and Three to GO

August 27, 2007

Today starts the begining of my fourth week of my 20-24 week transformation. I have decided to divide my progress pictures and measurments into 6 week intervals.  Right now I am felling great even though I really cannot tell if I am really on track! But from past experiences I know not to look at the mirror or the scale.  I will only weight myself every 6 weeks up into then I will go by how I feel as far as adjusting my cardio.  My diet pretty much stays the same throughout my transformation!

Friday

August 24, 2007

Friday is here and my weight training workout is over for the week.  It feels good to finish a good week.  I still have two more days of cardio though.  Tomorrow is my cheat day and I am glad, not because I going to binge eat but it gives me a relaxing day were I am not cooking every day.  Three weeks down and three to go before I take my new progress pictures and measurments.
