Tuesday, doctor appointment…
Well, had my 6 mos doctor appointment today. Haven’t lost any weight since November, in fact I weigh a pound or so more… POOH. HOWEVER the results from my blood test are very very good!! My blood sugar has been down, I got a new monitor and I’ve had some sugar crashes. My A1C hemoglobin test was awesome - 6%!! So my doctor is reducing one of my sugar meds by half!! YEAH! She said monitor everything for 2 weeks, and report in. If I’m still getting good numbers, she’ll reduce the other sugar med by half, also. YEAH, BABY!!
And my BP is awesome - 110/70 today, and similar numbers recently. She won’t take me off the BP meds, though, because she said it is protecting my kidneys. I guess I can live with that; she did change the meds in Nov from a diuretic to non, and I’m still doing great.
Now the not so good news.
My triglycerides are still waaaay tooo high. Scary high. My cholesterol has come down, and it’s almost good, but the tri-gs are awful. However, instead of putting me back on some of the traditional meds, (which make my heart palpitate!! YUK), she gave me concentrated fish oils - omega-3s. I have to take FOUR of these huge horse pills a day. She said she has had success with others using this, so I am all for it!!
I told her what my workout has been like. She asked how many calories I’ve been eating. So she told me to try this: 1800 calories, and reduce the intensity of each day. Continue to work hard, getting my heart rate up like I have been, for 45 mins/day. And to work out every day. She said alternate my cardio and my circuit training, but do it every day. She said this should stop the sugar crashes and also the exhaustion. I trust her on this, even though she is a doctor, because she put herself on the P90-X program and she has lost weight, and she knows what she’s talking about. So tomorrow I start a new plan.
I guess I’ll post here as well what she wants to read from me. Hopefully this will do the "trick", for everything - my weight, my triglycerides, my sugars… the whole deal. That will be GREAT!

Oooh, I hope your new plan is successful in lowering your triglycerides and getting your blood sugar levels to a more stablized place! I also take Omega 3’s, and they’re great. But I almost puked the first time I had a fish oil burp. LMAO!!!! Sorry, TMI, huh?

I swear by my Omega 3’s for so many things but mostly for my arthritis (yup-it’s great for that too). I haven’t found one yet that isn’t big.
Keep up the hard work on staying healthy! It’s worth it for soooo many reasons!

JJanet, I know, I burp fish oil anyway, but now… LOL! Good thing it’s not like onions.
Dede, I take so many things these days, horse pills don’t bother me, but sometimes I do feel like I’m full even before I have my meal… Victoria - that’s why I can’t quit or give up… I want to LIVE!! hehe! When I got out of my appointment I asked Dave if he wanted to hear about it. He said all I want to know is if you’re going to live or not… lol.

Be careful not to place too much emphasis on the weight. You look better and I have a feeling that your %BF is probably lower meaning you have put on muscle and lost fat at the same time. That is a great thing! One way to know is to measure your skin folds with a caliper. You don’t need anything fancy and I wouldn’t worry about %BF calculations just monitor the thickness of the various skinfolds over time.

Pam, I know weight isn’t everything, but I also know how I feel, how I look naked, and what I used to weigh, even when I was lifting weights before. Yes, I do feel better than I did a year ago, yes, I have gotten into a smaller jeans. I have to be really, really strict or I will just expand to the point of being terribly uncomfortable in my clothes! Losing 10 lbs will not put me at my ideal weight, but it will make me feel SO MUCH BETTER. I could be happy with a 10 lb loss!!
I do have some calipers, but the spot I’m supposed to measure with these is the one on my abdomen. And since I had that surgery there, and I had a little lipo, I don’t feel the result is very accurate. I did have a friend test me on several site about 10 mos ago, and he got an answer that was pretty close to the one I got, but then those electric impulse things all give me higher numbers. (my handheld one and my friend’s scale one). I might have gone down in BF, that would be great, of course, too. I just think for all this hard work, I should see more of a drop in my weight.
