metabolism. ?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Ok, I have a "problem" wonder if anyone can shed some light…

I’ve been eating "the bodybuilder way" for about a year and a half now, 5 small meals, every 3 hours, ratios of carbs protein and fat, etc.  Just recently I wanted to try to carb cycle.  Sometimes it takes me awhile, but I think I got a menu that will get me 50% protein and 30% carbs.  Usually it turns out that I’m eating 30% protein and 50% carbs.  I have no problem keeping my fat at 20% or less.

So the other day I tried this menu, and I had 6 egg beaters, with some mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes, and fat free cheddar cheese for breakfast.  Then next meal I had my protein shake with 1% milk.  It’s a low carb/low fat powder.  By lunchtime, I was feeling kind of funny. I wasn’t hungry, but my stomach felt weird.  I ate chicken and sweet potato and a salad for lunch.  But I felt almost like I was going to be sick for quite awhile, while I was eating and afterwards.   I usually have oatmeal for breakfast, and I had been eating yogurt and fruit for my "second breakfast" but I also was experimenting with cottage cheese and whole grain toast, or egg beaters and toast, etc for my first meal, then oatmeal made with milk for my second meal.  That’s been the "usual."

I thought maybe it was a fluke, or maybe I really need the early morning carbs, with my oatmeal?  That was 3 days ago.  Today I thought I’d try again.  I ate 4 egg beaters and 3/4 cup of blueberries for breakfast, and just my protein shake made with 1% milk for my snack.  It’s about 30 mins to lunch, and I’m starting to feel hungry.  I was planning a grilled salmon lunch out, but it got pushed to 1 pm, so I ate some peanutbutter on a rice cake to hold me over.  But I’m feeling that weird feeling again.

What I’m getting at, is do you think this is just because I’m used to eating oatmeal etc in the morning, and now I’m not, or do I really need to eat oatmeal etc in the morning, and I should try something different for a low carb day?  I’m trying to switch the oatmeal/cereal/toast carbs out with more fruit and veggies… is this right?  Or is my body just rebelling against a change?

I don’t want to make myself sick.  I am still on my blood sugar meds… anyone have any suggestions?

thanks!!!

One week down - -

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

I made it through my first week of my "experiment" - the circuit routines.  And my travel for work!!  I am happy to report that I did NOT eat off my plan!  WHEW!  It wasn’t as hard as I thought - it sure made it easier having it all right there, packaged up so all I had to do was grab a container or two.

And I even got up at 4:45 two days to do my workouts.  That was the part that really surprised me - lol - I love to sleep in.  But I’ve found my days go much better when I get in my workouts in the morning, plus then in the evening I can relax and not worry about "fitting them in."

My measurements today were not WOW like I was expecting, but I did lose 1/4" off my bellybutton (can’t call it my waist yet), my hips and my butt.  That’s pretty cool! My weight stayed the same, but I can feel muscles in my arms that weren’t quite there a week ago, and my hamstrings are more defined.  Actually, my legs overall are looking more defined.  I have a handheld bodyfat measuring thing that I used last week just for another gauge, and it read .5% less today also.

SO.  I decided since my jeans were getting loose around my waist, and my waistband was starting to bunch up under my belt, that I would go try on some size 10 jeans.  I’ve been wearing the Faded Glory brand from Wal-mart because they are inexpensive, and they have the "Classic" fit that I like.  I do have one low-rise boot cut pair, but I’m not comfortable in the low rise waist, and the waistband gaps so bad anyway… but I’m getting sidetracked! LOL!

Last March when I started all this, I was wearing a size 14.  An uncomfortably on the tight side 14.  Around August? (I forget exactly) I was in a size 12, but a really really comfortable fit size 12.  That made me feel great!  In January I went to the last hole on my belt, and my waistband started bunching up.  But I had to be on the last hole, or my pants would feel like they were falling down all the time.  Plus I didn’t think the whole look of the Faded Glory jeans was fitting me anymore.

So I tried on the size 10s today.  THEY FIT!! WOW!  I tried them on in every cut, and they all fit!!  I tried on a size 10 in the new Lee jeans - THEY FIT TOO!!!  OMG, they fit so well - and I like the way they fit my shape, too, so I bought two pair!!  Good bye Faded Glory, good bye size 12, H E L L O   N E W   L E E S   S I Z E  10 !!!!!

I am so excited!  I even bought two "girlie" shirts…  I dont’ know where the money is going to come from, but today I dont’ care!

Ok, gonna do my workout now!!!!!!   Maybe I’ll take a picture of me in my new clothes!!   :D

Tomorrow - -

Tomorrow I start on a 30 day circuit training program.  I expect to see great results - and to be very tired!!

I will be taking progress pictures next weekend, I think, and will get measured in two weeks.  I have to keep up a KICK A$$ ATTITUDE to be able to get every day in, so I may be leaning on you my bodyspace buddies!!  I’m even taking my dumbbells and stability ball with me on my trip next week…  I’m starting tomorrow so my workout days off will be Monday, Thursday and Friday, that way I can fit it in my travel schedule.

I wish I had some of your cell phone numbers LOL!!

Have a great weekend!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

To everyone who reads my blog today - hope you have a Happy Valentine’s Day.  If you have no Valentine, consider this a hug from me  :)

Last Tuesday was the last time I did my Cardio Kickbox DVD.  Since then I’ve been jumping rope.  I set my time for 15 mins and go as long as I can, for as many "sets" as I can.  I only can do 1 speed, SLOW, but it’s still hard!  So this morning I decided to do my kickbox DVD again. WOW!!  I NEVER went above my Target heart rate!  And when I did the front kicks, I definitely noticed my gut was not as in the way as it used to be.  WOO-HOO!!!

I do have to go to our warehouse up north next week, and the hotel does NOT have a fridge or microwave.  But I think I will survive eating by bringing what I can eat that doesn’t have to be microwaved.  Just need a cooler with lots of ice… (thank you Janet :) )  I’m pretty sure the warehouse has a microwave, and I know they have a fridge, so I can take milk, cottage cheese etc. to work.  And I’m going to bring my stability ball and dumbbells…  I actually only have to worry about 3 days for exercise, and 4 days for food.  That’s not too bad.

More next time lol.

Just Monday

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Hmmm what have I been up to?  … finding new combinations of food to help me burn fat.  Very interesting.  And I discovered a new "treat" - enough calories to be a meal - my chocolate protein powder, 1 cup of plain nonfat yogurt, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup of frozen berries and 1 tbs of natural peanut butter.  MMMMM!!!  And just found out today next week I have to go to our warehouse in north TX.  And if they put me in the hotel WITHOUT the fridge and microwave, I’m afraid what’s gonna happen to my diet!!  ACK!!

Oh, and Bryan G - no need to share the storms, thanks anyway!!  No snow, but horrific thunder and lightening, and rain like Noah was coming, along with winds that I would almost swear should have been a hurricane…  the poor outside cats were all standing on our porch meowing.  That is, until every leaf, branch, twig and any other thing not tied down blew onto and then across the porch…  I’ll have to do a cat head count in the morning!!
