Deadlifts and More…

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

I don’t know if it’s because it’s getting colder or what, but I just seem to ache all over these past few days. It’s not enough to keep me out of the gym, but it’s still annoying.

I tried to stay very serious with my deadlifts tonight (didn’t make the gym yesterday so I’m did Tuesdays workout today) but have decided I might be doing them wrong as I started to really feel it in my lower back. I’ll use a little less weight next time a concentrate on form. As we all know, deadlifts are great for packing on the muscle - but they don’t work well if you hurt yourself while doing them!

Shoulder Pain

Monday, November 26th, 2007

One of the things I’ve always been pleased with is that throughout all my years of training, I really haven’t had any injuries or unusual aches and pains (some might just say I don’t work hard enough in the gym - but everyone is entitled to an opinion). Well, that may have come to a screeching halt today. I finished my last set of upright rows and my left shoulder just started to hurt. Not a tightness but an actual hurt. It wasn’t so bad that I had to stop everything, but it was bad enough that I decided to skip my curls and just finish up with some cardio. Fortunately, the pain has gone away for the most part now several hours later, but I hope this is a one time thing and not a sign of “old age” finally catching up to me!

BTW, I did finish my workout at home - just had a the old bis and tris to hit.

The Annual “Feast”

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Well, another Thanksgiving is almost upon us and the question as always isn’t "will I over eat" but rather "by how much will I over eat?" Of course, for this one day a year I don’t really worry too much about it either way - though some might point out that I don’t seem to worry too much about it the rest of the year either!

Actually, the Thanksgiving meal in my opinion isn’t too bad by today’s standards. Isn’t a meal of turkey, vegetables, and even mashed potatoes and gravy better than a McDonald’s Big Mac combo? Or, heaven forbid, a double Whopper with cheese?

Of course, the good thing is that I am also off work on Friday - more time for cardio and lifting (you couldn’t drag me to the mall the day after Thanksgiving).

I Gotta Stop Going to Las Vegas :)

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Had another business trip to Las Vegas - and I suppose for a lot of people it’s a great place, but it just doesn’t do much for me. I’m not much of a gambler, though I do enjoy seeing some of the shows, but the worst part is the interuption of my workout schedule. We were a the MGM Grand, beautiful facility by most standards, but being cheap by nature I just couldn’t justify spending $75.00 to use the "fitness center" for three days.

Which brings me to a non-bodybuilding rant, why is it that the more expensive and "luxurious" the hotel the fewer amenities? For example, the above mentioned charge for using the fitness center - granted it was nice, but I’ve been in other hotels where they center was almost as nice and there was no additional charge for use. Even other resorts where there might have been a charge the fee was much less. Ditto for breakfast…so many budget hotels toss in a free breakfast - several which are getting to be fairly elaborate - but not in Vegas anymore. In fact, try to find an inexpensive buffet or anything else!

Ah well, at least I don’t have to go again until the spring…
