Blah!

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

After only a few weeks back in the gym I’ve missed a couple of workouts again - the usual excuses (work, family commitments, etc) apply. Well - no choice but to get back tomorrow. If there’s time for TV, there’s time for working out…

On the plus side - I’ve been good about sticking to my nutrition plan and the fat is still coming off!

Feel the Burn Again

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve finally gotten back into the gym after the holidays - I was surprised that for the next two days I could still feel the workout. Both because I was more energized and alert and stopped feeling like a lump and also because of the onset of "delayed muscle soreness." It was good to feel "tight" again - it’s amazing how quickly I can forget why I’ve been working out in the first place. Now it’s on to a new routine for the New Year. I do wonder though how long it will be before the usual crowd of new New Year resolution folks will thin out so I don’t have to wait a half hour for a bench to open up again.

In the Gym

Thursday, January 4th, 2007

I actually got to the gym today - and it felt good even though my workout was fairly brief. Since I hadn’t worked out in over two weeks I thought it might be best to not over due it as I got the "kinks" out. I focused on chest and arms but only did a couple light sets of each exercise with one "heavy" set on the bench just to see where I was strength-wise.

The good news is that even without working out for the past couple of weeks and only sporadically for the past two or three months my strength hasn’t decreased much. The bad news is that somehow I managed to gain 4 lbs since I was last at the gym, and this after about two weeks of not eating too much as my Crohn’s - a digestive disorder that flairs up occasionally - has been active for most of the holidays.

All in all though, it was good to be back at it and I tried not to get too jealous of the younger, more muscular guys working out all around me and the impressive weights they were lifting! I can usually keep my spirits up as long as I focus on my improvement and not on anyone elses - which is a philosophy that seems to serve me well in other areas of life, too.

Tomorrow - legs!!
