Front Loading Your Caffeine

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Here’s one tip that I give my clients who are looking to lose fat and love coffee. It’s called front loading. Essentially what you do is ingest the bulk of your caffeine in the morning through one serving of strong coffee and then for the rest of the day, you drink a strong brew of green tea (Snapple green tea doesn’t count, folks!)

Caffeine has thermogenic (fat burning) properties, but I don’t recommend ingesting multiple cups of coffee through out the day. The effects of caffeine wear off the more you take it. Take too much of it and you will experience adrenal fatigue, a rise in cortisol, and a difficulty in burning off stubborn fat, particularly around the waist.

But if you front load with a strong cup of coffee in the morning, you get a huge spike of caffeine early on. Rather than allow that spike to drop drastically and respike with another cup of coffee later in the day, you can maintain a more even flow of caffeine by drinking green tea for the rest of the day. Green tea has less caffeine, but is thermogenic and suppresses appetite, which is why it is recommended in diets.

Stick with loose leaf green tea (no teabags, you lazy bums!), and brew it in a carafe. Drink at least three cups a day, but not before bedtime. Do this with a clean diet, lots of water and exercise, and you’ll achieve the lean hard body physique. Exercise Rotation

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

What marks an advanced bodybuilder from a beginner? One thing is whether their program is different from workout to workout. Ask a beginner what he did for his chest, and he’ll say, "Bench press, incline press, dumbbell press, flyes."

Ask him what he’ll do for his next chest workout, and he’ll say, "Uh… bench press, incline press, dumbbell press, flyes."

Ask him what he’ll do for his chest workout after that, and he’ll say, "Bench press, incline press, dumbbell…"

DEAR GOD! Somebody put this guy out of his misery!

Beginners are overly enthusiastic in their training, so they take a "everything and the kitchen sink" approach to training. Over time you’ll notice the first exercise you perform in a workout is the one you’ll make the most progress in strength-wise.

One of many ways to make your routine different from workout to workout is to rotate your exercises. So rather than do four exercises for each body part at every workout, just do one at each workout and change it up from workout to workout.  This is a much better way of training, because each exercise comes off as fresh at each workout.

Are you chiseling your physique for yourself or for the ladies in 2008?

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Happy New Year!  Now that 2008 is beginning, everybody is thinking about hitting the gym a little more.  Why?  Cuz we all want to look HOT damn it!  For guys, we either want to look buff to get respect from other guys or get admiration from the ladies.

How you look and present yourself is how people treat you. When it comes to attracting women, women are hardwired (VERY hardwired) to be attracted to height. All things being equal, an average looking guy who is tall will usually attract women more than a short guy with exceptionally attractive looks.

of course, unless you undergo that operation like Ethan Hawke did in "Gattaca," you can’t do much about your height. BUT you can certainly change your physique.

In my experience and from what I have seen in others, most women really don’t care as much about your physique, UNLESS you’re one extreme or the other: fat or skinny. Most women are looking at other factors aside from physique: how safe and comfortable you make them, how you make them laugh, how confident you are, how you dress, etc.

But I find that 2 out of 10 women will also be highly attracted to a well-chiseled physique, so much so that they would casually or in an obvious manner touch your arm.

Don’t underestimate the power of a powerful looking physique. Most women are not attracted to the buffed out strong man, but they definitely notice the V-taper (wide shoulders, muscular arms, trim waist).
