Lend me a helping hand?!

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

So, I finally had my wrist surgery yesterday morning. It was the first surgical attempt at trying to fix an injury I sustained in high school playing baseball. I had shattered my left wrist when another player and I dove into each other going for a fly ball. Not only did I break several bones but I had a severe dislocation that took four attempts to reset. Well long story short it never healed correctly or straight for that matter. Since I got into heavy weight lifting last year my wrist was hurting more under the pressure of the heavy weight and it was very unstable to boot. (yes, I said… to boot) After the doctors different routes of treatment we finally decided to cut me open. I decided to just do a regional block rather then general anesthesia so not to deal with that sick/nausea feeling I’ve seen so many patients complain of. They went in and removed a few pieces of bone that never healed and reattached a few ligaments I tore and for a few extra bucks I got the whole package and got my athritis cleaned up as well. I came out of surgery with a numb left arm and feeling a little loopy but pretty good to say the least. So good that I got up and was walking around the ward but not knowing my gown was untied in the back. After hearing a nurse whistle at me I realized that my pasty ass was hangin out for all to see. The doctor gave me 21 days of convalescent leave to recover from the surgery. That means 3 weeks of no work or duty. I was pretty excited about it but after doing nothing all day yesterday after my surgery I realized its going to be a very long BORING recovery. I guess I’ll be on here more passing the time or reading books or something. I cant even get on the stationary bike for about 3 more days. It has been interesting trying to do things with one hand though. Anyway, I just hope I can get back to the gym as soon as I can without hurting it again. This blog has taken me about 20 mins to write with just one hand, so sorry if I don’t write you guys back a long response. Maybe I’ll improve doing one arm push-ups and pull-ups, lol All I know is I’ll be doing leg workouts and beating Stormiorsini’s leg press record of 610lbs. Your going to lose that bet Nessa!
