Peek a boo…

dnsigma

Man, I have gotten so lazy that I didn’t even want to hit the gym today. Okay okay…so I have been out of the gym for about 2 weeks. To get a sense of what that feels like….imagine two months for most people and thats what it feels like.

Anyhow….life has happened alot over those two weeks especially my doc program.Today, I just eased back in the groove with some swimming…but I gotta see what tommorow will bring.

Positives

While "resting" my body actually showed more muscle development…I guess it finally had time to rest and rejuvenate? But, if you "rest" to long it will soon disappear back into oblivion…especially if your diet goes straight to cookies, chips, taco bell, captain d’s.burger kind, doritos, jolly ranchers, hot wings and the rest of the mess that I have been eating over these past two weeks.

Aight folks pray for me…I should be back soon.

A lesson for weightlifters…

Monday, October 19th, 2009

dnsigma

Yesterday, I was talking with my sister about this pull over that our parents bought for me last christmas. She started talking about me and how small it was…and I was like I know…then she said…you all like it like that and I said…nnnoooooooo……yall(As in guys her age like that).

Maybe its just me…but I think the fashion poice should write people tickets who are my size 6′0 213 and they were anything below an XL shirt. I mean I wear XXL. For some reason, the tightness of shirts and polos, especially in the work environment is not kosher. Lesson, there is a time and place for everything and everywhere is not the time and place.

By George…I think I’m getting it…

Monday, October 19th, 2009

dnsigma

Today, after doing a good chest workout I decided to take my weight and see if I am improving on my "Size me" program that I mentioned in my earlier blog….and the results? It’s working!!! Today, I weighed in at 213….a big jump from before. Much of this could be water, so I am going to do it again after I have sat in the sauna for a while. Anyhow, any progress is good progress.

I’m just saying…

dnsigma

Frustration seems to be abundant in this hobby called bodybuilding. I mean there are 80 million things to do and remember in order for someone to achieve "that physique". Well, they exponentially decreases if you have lots of money to buy many supplements. But, man over the past few months I have just been struggling on gaining weight and maintaining muscle. It seems as if I have been able to balance this out okay. But, man food has been getting the best of me…stress makes your body go into the conservation mode where just look terrible, and my time is becoming more and more limited….therfore not allowing me to hit the gym as much.

The real question is how much of this I am going to let hold me back? That is to be determined….knowing my past I’m better than that…I’m just saying…I know most of you all are and I’m trying to be like most of you all.

Happy lifting and stay motivated.

Show me your upper body and I will show you a true bodybuilder…

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

dnsigma

Well, not exactly. This is just my take on some stress points, if you will, of bodybuilding. Total health and development is key into becoming a 2009 bodybuilder. So, here is an ultimate novice opinion on the sport

1. All abs and no legs does not define a bodybuilder.

2. Leg development is a key component, as they are often times the hardest to develop and could possibly be a sign of much dedication to the lifestyle.

3. The kitchen is where a lot of the basics for bodybuilding starts.

4. You won’t be able to purchase supplements your entire life. So, why not start now and wheen yourself off of as many as possible.

5.All work and no play makes you an overworked and underdeveloped fanantic.

6. Big necks and big arms are not praise worthy.

And you are dong this because????

dnsigma

One of my faults is that I tend to question many things, if I verbalize them or not is another question. I guess that’s why I am the perpetual student?!?!?!?!? Anyhow, some people in the gym? I just wonder why they are there and what are they doing. For instance, you have the cruisers….people who cruise around the gym as if they are like the ultimate muscle man…but they cruise around the gym to see what everyone else is doing and looking at the weight they have or are lifting. Then you have the ‘Wait I got a message people’ who check their cell phone after every set as if it has a timer on it or is telling them the next thing to do. Then you have ‘I can out beat you’ people who will see you working on something and come up next to you (ALL IN YOUR SPACE) and workout doing the same exercise as you as if they look or can do better.

Seriously…..and you are doing this because of what?????

Hey dude can you spot me…

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

dnsigma

Today was a chest day in the gym and I usually use the smith machines as a guaranteed spotter for me…but nooooo I had to focus on the neuro response development of my chest muscles by using the free weights this time. Well it went some thing like this 2 sets of the bar for 15, 225 for 10 rest 225 for rest….135 for 15 then I push 245 for 3…I rested and asked a dude to spot me and told him that I could get it up off the bar it was later on of getting it off my chest I was worried about….and so I go 1……2…….3(I feel it)…..4(Mannnnn this is getting to me!!) 5…(Oooo crapp its going to stay on my chest) and so this dude is over with his finger on the bar like ‘push you got it push you got it’. I wanted to say ‘NO MF I DONT AS YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE’. Then? I thought about whopping his a#$ for potentially letting this heavyweight fall on me and next thing you know? The weight was up in the air!!!! Then the dude says…’I made you work for that one!’ and me being Kosher said ‘Sure did…thanks man!!!!"

Lesson for today: Good things can sometimes come from bad. Of course this is a very isolated circumstance but the quote applies! Happy lifting!

Perdon…Gym Etiquette #22

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

dnsigma

Excuse me sir,  I noticed that you are probably attempting to exceed your 1rm by picking up some super heavy weight. How did I know that? Your face expression, along with your constant movements of trying to keep the weight in your hand tell me so. Also, sir if you could just move slightly away from the dumbbells that you are guarding, breathing and sweating over as you attempt this….others would like to also get some dumbbells and work out as well.

Somewhere, I read…about bodybuilding lesson #1

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

dnsigma

That it was important to rest. It may have been a bodybuilding magazine…but I am pretty sure I read it in the bible somewhere too.So, my latest workout regime and ‘dieting’ has brought me up in weight a cool 6lbs.Sounds good right? I think so. Over the past few days, I have been waking up every morning just aching…chest aching, legs aching…tendinitis of some sort in my elbow. I am literally over here tearing my self down.

Well, today? I decided a no gym day was going to be a good one.So, I took a break…well actually I had a busy day at work and meetings for most of the night and I have to study (That’s the real reason). But, I must give myself credit when I can.

Simple tactics,simple ways…doing what bodybuilders have been doing for years….Lesson # 1 - Rest

Tonight was a good night…for swimming and suggestions

Friday, September 11th, 2009

dnsigma

Today, I finally hit the pool again after ripping my shorts a couple of weeks ago. I did about 40 lengths / 20 laps and that was that on that. I am really pleased with my current progress and not taking fat burners!! I seem to be keeping the fat off by using my core muscles heavily during all other exercises. But, I have a question…I need some suggestions on any types of routines people do for mass building. I think I have tried almost every combination and I don’t want my body to get use to them. So, if you have some suggestions…please offer. Thanks in advance!

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

dnsigma

Usually, when I work out, especially after lifting heavy weights, that body part is sore the next day or so.But today? It’s sore all in the same day. Today was a back day…lat pulls at 260….pull-ups,dumbell rows, seated rows, dumbell flyes, back extensions….man…I just got home from work and I am sore!!! No pain no gain right????Sure….

Day 1…of possibly many

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

dnsigma

Today was my first day actually lifting towards the goal of getting ‘bigger’. I used bigger in quotations because, of course, its relevant to what you define. i define it as being 6′0 about 215 to 220 with lean muscle. So, today I did a good leg workout and did good an actually hit another personal goal: 235 for 6 on ATG squats…Well, I was excited about it? After 6 sets of squats…I was exhausted.

So for now…it’s a slow and steady road…

Happy lifting folks.

Retro blog - December 21,2006

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

dnsigma

I was reading my blogs from a while ago and came across this hilarious statement on the subject of me swimming.
Swimming

I think I swam another mile or so yesterday. Many times, I am in another world while swimming, so after I count to the 36th lap I just let my mind wonder about things like sex, math problems, current world issues, the doc program I am trying to get….just random things. Then comes the realization,***HELLO SIR, THIS IS YOUR BODY AND IF WE DON’T STOP SOON YOU WILL BE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS 15FT POOL!!!****and I get out of the pool.

Size Me

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

dnsigma

Well, the summer is almost coming to an end. And this in now a time for me to get me size on…so over the next few months..I’ll be trying to size me…or bring my size up. Here’s what I got so far…please tell me what I need to change:

  • Protein intake: 230g proteins per day
  • Be sure to take a multi-vitamin everyday
  • Reduce cardio to about 1 day a week instead of 3 days cardio and 3 days of lifting
  • Be sure to take some glutamine after my workouts with my protein shake.
  • Try to stay away from all of this good ‘ole soul food that I love so much.
  • Give up candy for lent this upcoming year.
  • Attempt to hit heavier weights for a period of at least 6 weeks and then go back to doing light weights for reps.

As usual, I am doing some random plan for the massive amounts of information I have been reading on the net…so let me know anything that may be helpful. Happy lifting!

I look good and you know it…

Monday, August 24th, 2009

dnsigma

Sounds weird right? Well probably not for most of you. Anyhow, putting up a blog like this is a struggle for me because I don’t really say stuff like that. So, here is the moment of honesty. I think that I have achieved a pretty decent physique and status of health. My problem, as some would say, is that I don’t give myself enough credit for the work that I have done. So, hence you see the title of my blog today…I think this provides for me a stepping stone to recognizing my achievements more.  I look good..I look nice..I’m swole? That’s one that my students use…..So, for all the people who have been telling me, in so many words, to stop playing the pity party…there it is…I have  finally admitted for myself….and yes it does feel somewhat nice and somewhat weird too. Whatever, everyone has to start their levels of confidence somewhere right?

Happy lifting folks!

If you know something about protein nutrition…read this

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

dnsigma

So, today I was reading around on the web and saw all of these forms of protein that I have never heard of before. They all begin with Protein and end as follows:

Isolate -
Blend-
Concentrate-
Opti-Blend

If someone could tell me which is the best for weight gain…that would be great! Thanks.

Progress or no progress…that is the question!

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

dnsigma

So, I finally uploaded some new profile and progress pics. I think there are some gains? Really, it seems as if I am maintaining. Whatever…I do know that strength wise? I am making some gains. While in the gym now, I seem to be lifting more than I have in the past. But you know what? Since I don’t keep journals my…dumself won’t really know!

So, I would like to try something….if you want to be anonymous that’s perfectly fine. I would like to get some real criticism…on my blogs, pictures, whatever. I got a trick for you…sign out (If you are logged in) and comment on my page as a guest…that way I won’t know who it is..(Only use this option if you feel like it…..its not mandatory of course).

Peace out and happy lifting and trust me I won’t cry or hold it against you…I’ve been talking myself up for it.

Smith Machines are sort of a cheat?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

dnsigma

Yesterday I did a leg workout and was working on heavy sets. So instead of doing standard squats…I did them on the smith machine. When doing squats off the machine I can get up to 225 on the rack and may squat for 5..I might be able to do more…but I just get fearful that my knees would give out and I would be on the gym floor with weights on top of me. So anyhow, I load  295 on the rack and squat it for 5…I do some leg presses at 325 and then go back again and do another 5…What is this? Smith machines seemed to be sort of a cheat ooorrrrrrrrr I am underestimating my potential on the squat. If anybody knows…help me out.

Happy lifting!

What a difference weights make

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

dnsigma

Over the past few years, there have been several challenges with me and this journey called bodybuildng. With those challenges and subsequent accomplishments, has come pain…some explained and others very unexplained. For quite sometime it was really difficult for me to do seated shoulder presses or upper chest barbell presses. When trying to do the movements, it just seemed as if something in my shoulder was in a knot of some sort and it would always hurt. Over the years, I have continued to slowly work on my shoulder…which I figured has been the main problem.

The moment of change came after my chest and shoulder workout the other day. First, the workout was wonderful because I was felt really good and was really tired after the workout. Secondly, after I got home and the day after I felt some notable improvements in my arm…the rotation and positions. It just seems like as my shoulder gets stronger…the pain seems to go away.It may all be a figment of my imagination…then it may be that all of this is really paying off besides the aesthetics point of view?!?!?!

Cakes,chips,cookies, and other sweets

Monday, August 10th, 2009

dnsigma

Sooner or later, I am going to learn that I won’t achieve my ideal physique because of my lack of discipline in the nutrition department. Case in point, this past weekend I was just hanging around the house…decided to fire up the grill…invited over some neighbors…and then it was over. Mannn… I ate like a ton of chips, cake, sweet seedless grapes, popsicles…then I ate some grilled chicken, fish, porkchops and a ton of beans?!?!!? Am I crazy or what? Probably so…but man…it was soo good!!! LOL!!!

On the flipside, I had someone to compliment me in the gym and ask about my diet. Unfortunately, I didn’t have for them some grand master plan. This weekend, however, I have finally come to the conclusion that I should think a little more highly of myself and physique.Apparently, I am in a better physical fitness stature than most and maybe I should start owning that a little more?!?!?!? It may be beneficial to take a page from some people on here who have let the invention of the digital camera and be your own photographer go to their heads a little to much? But,the underlying truth in their, what I call, sometimes wacky photos often close to nudity and pages that akin themselves to be Greek Gods is that…..people are attracted to it. Hmmm…that’s something I will have to think on….is it confidence or ego? That is the question! LOL!!

Peace out folks!

Steadily moving past plateaus

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

dnsigma

Saturday morning was a chest and shoulders day. I followed a plan by levrone where I did a giant set of behind the neck press followed by side dumbell raises, then front raises, then dumbell chest press followed by flys…whew! That didn’t sound like so much when I was doing it….now wonder I was super tired after each set. Anyhow, I did about 5 sets which accounted for about 75 reps of each exercise. I then moved onto to do some other few ‘touch up’ things while I was there. I attempted to bench 245 a couple of time (Something that I haven’t really tried before) and surprisingly I got it pushed fairly easy. It was only for about 5 or so…but that’s a start.

The importance of alternating between heavy and light

Friday, August 7th, 2009

dnsigma

Everybody has different goals on this journey called bodybuilding. My goal is to gain some mass and look as if I actually do lift weights.Well, let me be honest..I kinda wish I could have the build of somebody who participates in a bodybuilding contest. However, my lack of discipline in eating choices and many times weightlifting has impeded that process throughout the years.

Anyhow, enough of focusing on my flaws…Lord knows I have to many to count in this blog. Now for the positive. Since my goal is to build some serious mass and increase definition…I have come to this conclusion from reading different websites and watching different videos. Lifting heavy shocks muscles and helps them to grow large.Doing light weights helps to increase the size of capillaries in the blood vessels. As a result, more blood is able to get within those veins and helps to increase definition and also mass when you go back to the heavier weights. I think that it is really all about the amount of blood you can get through your vessels.

The Plan

Joe Plavick sent me a book not to long ago about a mass building plan. It was here, just 2 months ago, that I learned some techniques to ‘polish’ my look. So, If you have read this blog in its entirety…I hope that it helps with your bodybuilding development. Over the past 2 months I think I have made some considerable progress using this method.

Best of luck to you all.

The significance between Dora the Explorer and bodybuilding

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

dnsigma

Dora Dora Dora the explorer….my niece loves this character who obviously speaks a little Espanol in the midst of her journeys across different lands. Dora is a little interesting in that when she sees a challenge…she makes every last one of them fun and exciting with music and her friends to help her along.

Ho does this relate to bodybuilding?

The other day I was in the gym and I saw this guy…this is not the first time I have seen people do this, just exploring the gym they’ll jump on a machine over do the movements really hard for one set then move on to another machine.

The problem and a possible solution

First, doing one set of everything in the gym may not be the best approach to working out…especially if you come in all the time and do these erratic type of workouts.

A possible solution (LOL) be like Dora…get some music, get some friends and focus on a workout regime. It’s 2009! Most people have access to a wealth of information that will allow you to plan more carefully instead of just going into this venture blind….if you want to workout….learn the language and the technics. Just like Dora you’ll be a able to get a lot of done in a short amount of time!
LOL!!!!

I know this was really far reaching and crazy…but there might be some underlying truth to it (LOL!). Have a good one folks.

Life is going to fast…can summer time stay just a little longer?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

dnsigma

Man…I have enjoyed hitting the gym this summer, I have made a few gains. I should have probably catalog them better. Should could woulda..whatever.Today, I was thinking about how July is quickly coming to an end and my summer is almost over. Man…in just a few days I will be back in the books tough and then back at work…full blast with all my students nearly seven days a week. I am kinded excited, because I enjoy the thrill of my job, but then not because I won’t be able to hit the gym like I usually do.

But, I have a plan…this year, Like MJ said I gotta look at the man in the mirror and make a change. So, all of you as my witness…I VOW TO BE CONSISTENTLY IN THE GYM FOR THE REST OF THIS YEAR. Now, after that? I don’t know.LOL!!!! But for all of my fellow bodyspacers who check in every once in a while…talk some trash to me if you see I’m not on it…I’ll need the encouragement and I really won’t mind.

Peace .

Post by: dnsigma

My better is better than you better…

Monday, July 20th, 2009

dnsigma

Well, not really because some may argue that is totally circumstantial…whatever. To be honest, I made a personal accomplishment today. So, I am usually a little hesitant about ‘over doing’ it with the weights; one time I had a student who was squatting to much in the gym and tore is heart and was escorted out of the gym by the paramedics. With that being said…today was leg day..the day of squats, leg extensions, calf raises, seated presses and ham exercises.

After warming up…I loaded two 45’s to each side and squat that for 10…it felt good..I felt a little confident…..so I went again for another 10….I was feeling the pain….I started breaking out a sweat….I felt a little more confident….I added 10lbs to each side…went again for about 7….i’m busting a sweat…it’s feeling good…I hit it again for another 7…I was done and I was happy.

I know that this may not be a lot for some of you…but  for me…those were some bold moves!!! The rest of the workout consisted of 5 sets of leg presses of 340…leg extensions…calf raises 405lbs for 10 about 4 sets and then I went to do some ab work.

Overall, I think I got in a decent workout….whether I am getting stronger? I feel like it…since I don’t really track my progress lke I am suppose to…I really don’t know. Whatever, for now I’m feeling good and that’s good enough. Peace out folks!

I just found out that I am fascinated with squats

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

dnsigma

Today, I did a chest and tricep workout. But, as I was walking around to hit up my next sets…I saw two guys hitting some ATG squats. Why I am writing about this? Because, I want to do better! These guys were about my size but pushing much heavier weight than I have tried with ATG squats.A hint of jealously? Heck yea!!! I gotta do better. Even though my legs are killing me right now from my leg workout about two days ago…I think I am going to hit ‘em again tommorow….there’s nothing better than an awesome set of tree trunks to provide a good base for your body.

Perdon….Gym Etiquette #21

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

dnsigma

Sir, who is 2 inches taller than me and about 100lbs heavier. As you have noticed, I am doing a reverse lat pull with a lat bar. Why am I doing this? Probably because I don’t feel like fighting through the droves of guys who are standing around yapping by all of the accessories. Also sir, you have been here long enough to see that I done at least 4 sets. Thanks for being nice and going to get me a close-grip handle to use. But when I say no thanks…don’t shrug your shoulders then look at me like ‘you the fool’. Wait a minute? Did I ask you for your help anyway? Okay, that’s what I remembered….

I thought about this after I left the gym and probably should have just realized this guy was trying to be nice. Unfortunately, today I was so in the zone of trying to complete my workout that his niceness combined with that stupid look on his face when I said no just moved me the wrong way. Usually in the gym…I try to stay out of other peoples way…you know everyone…except for the yappers have a mojo going on that I, out of all people, do not want to disturb.

AAAAaaaaaaa bbb cccc its not as easy as 1 2 3

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

dnsigma

Then to, maybe it can be. So, today I found my way back to the gym again. Thanks for the comments and encouragement. So, today was a leg day…I hit the squats with a max of 230 on the bar…then whatever the weight of the bar was. I did that for about 5. Then I did about 4 sets with 180 on the bar. On to leg extensions 110 inner leg, outter leg and then straight on(Man these hurt…do about 4 sets). Then I did leg presses with about 310 for 7 at about 4 sets. Then some leg curls. I was really tired at this point so I kinda stop counting. But, I think this was decent for a day back. Now, time to eat and look at some of your profiles to see what you’re up to.

Peace out folks!

Just a note to myself…I think I can I think I can I think I can…So I’ll repeat this today…..motivating myself to the gym…then hopefully after I get there I can say that to myself through the workouts. LOL!!! Let’s see how all this works out.

Post by: dnsigma

If you’re struggling with bodybuilding and you know it…clap your hands..

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

dnsigma

CLAP!! CLAP!!!! Maybe I should do this everyday…may I would fill a little bit better about myself. So, today…as I decide to take another sabbatical from the gym. I began to think about the many people who are out there struggling with achieving whatever look or health status they conceived in their minds before actually making a commitment to the gym. So, although looks can be deceiving and I think they are in this case, I really do struggle with this whole concept. Some of you may have read my interesting views on the over usage of supplements, people who are to much of them selves and various other things in relation to bodybuilding. People seem to struggle and cope with those struggles in different ways. Today, I have come to the partial conclusion that all of those things I write about maybe the motivating factors or coping mechanisms for people to succeed and that’s why they, in most but not all cases, are doing so well?!?!?!?!?!? It’s just a thought…

Enough about them…about me. So, sometimes people say what are you taking, what are you eating? The answer is protein and a mult-vitamin every once in a while I will try a new supplement, mostly if it’s free, but besides that…it’s just protein and a multi-vitamin. What am I eating? Not what you think I am!!! I try to eat as healthy as possible…but money and lifestyle doesn’t necessarily permit it. If this was a several years ago and I had less responsibilities than I do know? I probably would be much more ‘jacked’, as people would say than I am now. But, the book of life has prescribed something different for me.

Now, to the point of this blog. If I was to offer a discenting opinion on motivation for bodybuilding I would say something like this: ‘Healthy living is more of a lifestyle formation rather than a fad.It cannot and will not happen in a day or a week and for some even a month. Healthy living, like most things in life is all about keen knowledge and persistence. If you cannot afford all of the ‘hype’ supplements…think about the people who were lifting before these drugs and how well they did. You can do it too. Eat in moderation…try to eat more good foods than bad foods, treat yourself every once in a while. Exercise in moderation until your body and mind yearns for more. When all of the entities are in sync with one another you can increase your workouts and enjoy the results more. Finally, stop trying to be everybody else….they’ve acheived their goal…be yourself and achiev your personal goal….unless you want to continously live vicariously through the lives of others…which is not, necessarily, a good life to live.  So no matter who you are long, short, big or small…I believe that God created us all with the potential to live out our dreams…so, as Nike sorta says…go do it!’

Alright folks…Imma get lost from the gym for a few days….happy lifting and best of luck to everyone who has competitions, photo shoots or other things coming up.

Perdon….Gym Etiquette #21

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

dnsigma

Excuse me sir stop thinking in your head ‘how ridiculous these peeople are’ in your head as you walk by and see three guys and two HHUUUGGGEEE gym bags  filled with tubs of various protein powder and supplements on your right and on your left you see people carefully measuring water and supplements in their workout bottle at the water fountain.

So, today I came to the realization that some of the things that I think are really stupid are just part of gym culture. So actually this particularly one is about me…I gotta do better on thinking such rude things about people.

Slowly but surely I’m learning…Gym culture does not equal the nerd culture that I think I have been surronded by to long. Any how self critques are good right? I hope so!

Happy lifitng folks!

Some commentary on Kevine Levrone…

Recently, I came across a site for this man…and obviously he is one of the ‘greats’ in bodybuilding. I just discovered that he went from this

http://i3.iofferphoto.com/img/item/275/917/36/o_untitled.JPG

to  this

http://kevinlevrone.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/0211.jpg?w=300&h=225

Why do I write? Well, I am intrigued by this bodybuilder, who obviously has done some great work in the past, cataloging his journey to get back into bodybuilding. He states that he has done bodybuilding in about 4 years, yet if you roll through the blog one can see that muscle memory is definetly real because this man is on a roll. Anyhow, if you get a chance…check it out. I think it’s pretty nice to see an accomplished bodybuilder start at the get go and catalog the everyday trials and tribulations of bodybuilding.

I am curious and maybe some of you all know…did he use steroids? For some reason, he put steroid free on his website…which to me hints to pass usage…but I don’t want to make assumptions. Anyhow…happy lifting folks.

Heavy weights week is going good…

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

dnsigma

Man….everything is sore back…a little of the chest…im just waiting on the legs. I think I am doing pretty good. I calculated my 1rm on the leg press at 407…so like the Jeffersons ‘I’m moving on up’ I did several heavy sets…single leg extensions at 120 single hams at the same. Standing calf 1rm was calculated at 540. So…all in all im getting there.

Don’t forget about them…

This blog is actually a trackback to some comments I left the other day on someone else’s site. The topic? Total body wellness. A couple of times I have mentioned that bodybuilding has been upstaged by  all upper body and no lower body strength. To prove my point, well maybe, try this exercise….when you think of a bodybuilder what’s are some of the things you think of? Bulging arms, rock hard abs, and a chiseling chest…right? Well, if I didn’t guess yours….I think that’s what most people look at. Anyhow, I decided to read up about this phenomena on the net by typing in some key phrases to see what articles I could find. Although not of these are scientific, the mere fact that it’s appearing in journals and fitness blogs is good enough for me to say…’This is a problem!’

Check it out:

This one is hilarious…glad I don’t have this problem!:

Bodybuilding | There is something new everyday…

I was tempted to write another post on gym etiquette…there are some idiots that plague gyms across America and if you are one of them…then you should try to correct your action…then to some people may like to be gym idiots or in nicer time rude gym people. Anyhow, today I just realized that you should eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. In case you are wondering how did I figure that out…while trying to achieve my goals of beating the Wii fit balance games it told me about eating. LOL!!! Peace!

Using 1 Repmax for lifting

Monday, June 15th, 2009

dnsigma

This week is the beginning of do heavier weights and lower reps as part of my workout routine. So far, I have seen good results with this program.Even as I write, my legs are killing me from a workout on Friday. So this week, I think I will start off with about 60% of my one rep max on the major lifting exercises(those listed on this site) and then go up each week. Do you think I should do a higher percentage? Anyone every try a program like this? Thanks for the info.

2 weeks of light weights are done!!!!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

dnsigma

Some may have notice my new program since being out of school for the summer. These past two weeks were filled with high reps little rest. For instance I would do something like this:

Incline dumbell curls 20 - 30 reps, immediately followed by, one arm extenstions 20 - 30 reps and repeat about 5 times.

Then I would move on to the next superset. The same type of supersetting happened for every body part on different days of the week.

If you haven’t tried it…..you need to. You think you are being and bad because you are curling some heavy weight…when you finish this type of workout?  You’ll be exhausted!!!

Now that I have finished these two weeks, it’s on to two weeks of heavy weights. I think I will be trying to 85% of my 1 rm. So,now I got to to get to calculate.

Update on the Wii fit goals…so EA sports has the new game out called active. Althoug I love Wii fit….this one looks so much cooler. So, I will continue to do the Wii fit…but you might see a new goal soon. Peace out folks!

It’s amazing what a mirror or camera can do.

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

dnsigma

For some people, it’s amazing what photoshop can do for them. But anyhow, I won’t get on that tangent. So, i was looking at my profile pic today….and not to toot my own horn. I am in a better position, physically, than I think I am. Now I wonder do other people have this same discovery after taking pictures of themselves. To be quite honest…even when I am in the mirror I am like ‘Yea…you need to do better.’But, it seems like the camera just puts a totally different lens on your physique altogether!

Anyhow, these are internal thoughts that I decided to put out there for discussion. Peace out folks!

Now I remember how I got so lean and kept muscle…

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

dnsigma

When you go to school and do all kinds of studying all the dog on time…you kind of forget some of the random things you do outside of school. Ergo my bodybuilding experiences. One of the main reasons I keep a blog is because I do the most random things most of the time.

Recently, I was looking through my progress pictures and notice how I was much more trimmed in some older pictures. It’s kinda weird because I am trying to get that look now and seem to be having some extreme difficulties. Then I remembered…… at that time I would workout in the mornings.Since I was being my usual self, CHEAP, I would run instead of drive to the gym.

Today, I just realized that it probably was that light morning cardio before each workout each morning that help me to burn fat and retain the muscle. Go figure! So there you go,light cardio if you want to retain some mass….turn it up a notch if you are wanting to burn it all off.

If shaking occurs after lifting…please sit down.

Monday, June 1st, 2009

dnsigma

Today was the first day of less weight high rep, one of many parts of a new routine I have started. So, today I hit the legs again, and again, and again. In fact, I was in the locker room and my legs started to shake like crazy. Like I really had to get myself together mentally and be like ‘okay stop shaking legs’ LOL!!! I know it sounds funny but it so true. Then as I get ready to walk out I feel my legs about to like give out. Hmmmm over exertion? So, I told the guy I was rapping with that I would have to holler at him later and I went to go sitdown. Man, has anyone else had this experience…this is the first time I have ever experienced this in my life. So…I’m at home chillin now…getting some rest.

Does Attitude determine your altitude?

Monday, June 1st, 2009

dnsigma

Well…I think for some yes…for others it is false hope. But, I guess you have to start somewhere right? I, personally do not consider my self to be a pruning person (i.e. you want see me talking smack about how huge I am and how you can come and get some or how much muscle mass  I have or how much I can bench, press or curl). But today, I am looking around the site and see people just ecstatic about their accomplishments and talking mad game.

Nothing against them, but I just wonder how much attitude does it take? All comments are welcomed…the floor is now open…

Moving on to light weight high reps weeks….

Monday, June 1st, 2009

dnsigma

Man,

Last week I did such heavy weight that I hurt something in my body that was killing people. I was doing some tricep kickback with 45’s and when I got home? Whenever I would take a deep breath my something in my back was hurting? Weird…but it stopped like the next day.
Anyhow, this week I am glad to get back to some not so heavy weight with more reps. The only problem is…this method will wear you out!!!! But, hey no pain no gain right? More updates soon. Peace!
