An addendum to my blog about shoulder workout

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

dnsigma

So, I just wanted to add that the reason I wrote about people and their huge traps and other lagging body parts kind of duped me for a minute. Often times, I would see people who would have shirts or tank tops on and look absolutely HUGE!!!!! Then they take their shirts off or put on some shorts and you’re like WTF??? People would have this HHHHUUUGGGEEEE traps to make them look so big and then legs were like 12 inches in diameter or chest were as flat paper! I mean really…stop fooling me…better yet…stop fooling yourself!

I’m just saying…it was difficult.

For a while, I was a little skeptical about the whole get your mind into it deal. But, over the last few months the techniques of getting mentally prepared before working out seemed like they worked. However, I really didn’t know if it was working or not. That was until i went to the gym today. The entire day I was dreading going to the gym at all…but then there was something that said ‘you need to go before you get on a trip of not going at all’ so I went.

Man, I was doing a leg workout and was not into at all and it was terrible…I mean I even the 50lb weights on the leg extensions were killing me!! It was terrible…I suffered through this workout all because I was not mentally focused.

So, lesson learned today? Like EA sports says….GET IN THE GAME!!!!!

Maybe I should just work on shoulders….

Have you seen ‘em? There are some people on here with sooooommmm huggggeeeee traps and the rest of their body is just like ok. Interesting, I guess this is what people are talking about when people over develop one part of their body and forget about the rest….just a little interesting.

Life is going to fast…can summer time stay just a little longer?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

dnsigma

Man…I have enjoyed hitting the gym this summer, I have made a few gains. I should have probably catalog them better. Should could woulda..whatever.Today, I was thinking about how July is quickly coming to an end and my summer is almost over. Man…in just a few days I will be back in the books tough and then back at work…full blast with all my students nearly seven days a week. I am kinded excited, because I enjoy the thrill of my job, but then not because I won’t be able to hit the gym like I usually do.

But, I have a plan…this year, Like MJ said I gotta look at the man in the mirror and make a change. So, all of you as my witness…I VOW TO BE CONSISTENTLY IN THE GYM FOR THE REST OF THIS YEAR. Now, after that? I don’t know.LOL!!!! But for all of my fellow bodyspacers who check in every once in a while…talk some trash to me if you see I’m not on it…I’ll need the encouragement and I really won’t mind.

Peace .

Making personal milestones is a huge motivator….

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

dnsigma

So as usual I don’t do big weights in the gym for this slight fear of them falling on me. So, while a lot people make the same progress I made in half the amount of time….I just take my time with everything.

Yesterday, I did a chest workout. S here are some of my personal accomplishments…bench press 225 for 10 reps then I did additional 4 sets with 5 reps each. Incline dumbell press(45 degree set) 90lbs for  10 supersetted with 50lbs for dumbell flyes (all done for 10 reps). I also, which really was not hard at all, did 100lb decline dumbell press 10 reps for 4 sets along with 60lb supersets. This was all finished off with 200lb flyes for 8 reps at 4 sets.

Yesterday was great…Ohh I also did 365lb shrug 10 reps for 4 sets.

Personal milestones for me…still trying to get like some of the big dawgs and do something better…I’m sure it will take a while…but I’ll get there.

But here’s my question,I am a little perplexed on.  For some reason, I seam to lift some heavy weight and have pretty good endurance throughout the workouts. I do  a decent amount of cardio (Swimming about 3/4 of a mile three times a week). But, I still seem to lack good definition. What am I doing wrong? I am slowly but surely coming to realize that this ‘definition’ is the elusive stick that I seem to be chasing after in my quest. The reason I say this is because there are people, on bodyspace, and in the gym who are doing the same, some doing more, and some doing less who have wwaaaayyyyyyy more defining moments. So, any commentary would be great…articles to read would be even better!

Happy lifting folks!

My better is better than you better…

Well, not really because some may argue that is totally circumstantial…whatever. To be honest, I made a personal accomplishment today. So, I am usually a little hesitant about ‘over doing’ it with the weights; one time I had a student who was squatting to much in the gym and tore is heart and was escorted out of the gym by the paramedics. With that being said…today was leg day..the day of squats, leg extensions, calf raises, seated presses and ham exercises.

After warming up…I loaded two 45’s to each side and squat that for 10…it felt good..I felt a little confident…..so I went again for another 10….I was feeling the pain….I started breaking out a sweat….I felt a little more confident….I added 10lbs to each side…went again for about 7….i’m busting a sweat…it’s feeling good…I hit it again for another 7…I was done and I was happy.

I know that this may not be a lot for some of you…but  for me…those were some bold moves!!! The rest of the workout consisted of 5 sets of leg presses of 340…leg extensions…calf raises 405lbs for 10 about 4 sets and then I went to do some ab work.

Overall, I think I got in a decent workout….whether I am getting stronger? I feel like it…since I don’t really track my progress lke I am suppose to…I really don’t know. Whatever, for now I’m feeling good and that’s good enough. Peace out folks!

Today…people played follow the leader in the gym..

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

dnsigma

This is actually quite funny. So, today was obviously new student orientation, again. When you go to a large school they have like 8,000 different sessions. So anyhow, I hit the gym late today so there where only like three people in the gym. Anyhow, this young guy comes into the gym with nothing but shorts  and a hat on.He then picks up some 20’s and goes to work in front of the mirror.  About 10 minutes later his friend comes in and does the same thing. Then some young girl comes in with a bikini and some daisy dukes on and sits and watches them then rubs on them when they sit down for a break. All the time while they are doing this, there is another freshmen walking around the gym….looking as if he was trying to find out what each machine did. So after guy #3 looks at these guys with no shirt on for about 15 minutes he begins to take off his shirt and then begins to flex in the mirror. He then grabbed like a 20 or 30 lb and did some dumbell back rows for about 10….he then takes his towel and I guess he was wiping the sweat off from his entire body because he was drying off for a while.

Yes, people at this point I have stop working out to watch this comedy…because you couldn’t pay people to do stuff like this so naturally!! It was hilarious. So after we have three people walking around the gym with no shirt on..I commence to working out. Then the gym attendant comes in and was like ‘Hey yall need a t-shirt to put on!’. OMG I was cracking up. Not that they were stupid, because they really didn’t know any better…but it was just a nice comical feature to an evening of working out.

I just found out that I am fascinated with squats

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

dnsigma

Today, I did a chest and tricep workout. But, as I was walking around to hit up my next sets…I saw two guys hitting some ATG squats. Why I am writing about this? Because, I want to do better! These guys were about my size but pushing much heavier weight than I have tried with ATG squats.A hint of jealously? Heck yea!!! I gotta do better. Even though my legs are killing me right now from my leg workout about two days ago…I think I am going to hit ‘em again tommorow….there’s nothing better than an awesome set of tree trunks to provide a good base for your body.

Some of you bodyspacers have lost your f(*@#$ mind…

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

dnsigma

So, just a few people on bodyspace…maybe they know it and maybe they don’t…have lost their mind. I applaud you for your success, however you did it, but that does not give you the right to go and talk smack to somebody else who is trying to do the same thing you have done or for your ego to be so huge that your are blinded by the fact that everyone has to start somewhere..Idiots I tell you…idiots…

This was just a small rant that I had to get out after perusing through bodyspace today and seeing the idiotic things people call informative statements.

Perdon….Gym Etiquette #21

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

dnsigma

Sir, who is 2 inches taller than me and about 100lbs heavier. As you have noticed, I am doing a reverse lat pull with a lat bar. Why am I doing this? Probably because I don’t feel like fighting through the droves of guys who are standing around yapping by all of the accessories. Also sir, you have been here long enough to see that I done at least 4 sets. Thanks for being nice and going to get me a close-grip handle to use. But when I say no thanks…don’t shrug your shoulders then look at me like ‘you the fool’. Wait a minute? Did I ask you for your help anyway? Okay, that’s what I remembered….

I thought about this after I left the gym and probably should have just realized this guy was trying to be nice. Unfortunately, today I was so in the zone of trying to complete my workout that his niceness combined with that stupid look on his face when I said no just moved me the wrong way. Usually in the gym…I try to stay out of other peoples way…you know everyone…except for the yappers have a mojo going on that I, out of all people, do not want to disturb.

dnsigma

Then to, maybe it can be. So, today I found my way back to the gym again. Thanks for the comments and encouragement. So, today was a leg day…I hit the squats with a max of 230 on the bar…then whatever the weight of the bar was. I did that for about 5. Then I did about 4 sets with 180 on the bar. On to leg extensions 110 inner leg, outter leg and then straight on(Man these hurt…do about 4 sets). Then I did leg presses with about 310 for 7 at about 4 sets. Then some leg curls. I was really tired at this point so I kinda stop counting. But, I think this was decent for a day back. Now, time to eat and look at some of your profiles to see what you’re up to.

Peace out folks!

The little engine that could…

Just a note to myself…I think I can I think I can I think I can…So I’ll repeat this today…..motivating myself to the gym…then hopefully after I get there I can say that to myself through the workouts. LOL!!! Let’s see how all this works out.

If you’re struggling with bodybuilding and you know it…clap your hands..

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

dnsigma

CLAP!! CLAP!!!! Maybe I should do this everyday…may I would fill a little bit better about myself. So, today…as I decide to take another sabbatical from the gym. I began to think about the many people who are out there struggling with achieving whatever look or health status they conceived in their minds before actually making a commitment to the gym. So, although looks can be deceiving and I think they are in this case, I really do struggle with this whole concept. Some of you may have read my interesting views on the over usage of supplements, people who are to much of them selves and various other things in relation to bodybuilding. People seem to struggle and cope with those struggles in different ways. Today, I have come to the partial conclusion that all of those things I write about maybe the motivating factors or coping mechanisms for people to succeed and that’s why they, in most but not all cases, are doing so well?!?!?!?!?!? It’s just a thought…

Enough about them…about me. So, sometimes people say what are you taking, what are you eating? The answer is protein and a mult-vitamin every once in a while I will try a new supplement, mostly if it’s free, but besides that…it’s just protein and a multi-vitamin. What am I eating? Not what you think I am!!! I try to eat as healthy as possible…but money and lifestyle doesn’t necessarily permit it. If this was a several years ago and I had less responsibilities than I do know? I probably would be much more ‘jacked’, as people would say than I am now. But, the book of life has prescribed something different for me.

Now, to the point of this blog. If I was to offer a discenting opinion on motivation for bodybuilding I would say something like this: ‘Healthy living is more of a lifestyle formation rather than a fad.It cannot and will not happen in a day or a week and for some even a month. Healthy living, like most things in life is all about keen knowledge and persistence. If you cannot afford all of the ‘hype’ supplements…think about the people who were lifting before these drugs and how well they did. You can do it too. Eat in moderation…try to eat more good foods than bad foods, treat yourself every once in a while. Exercise in moderation until your body and mind yearns for more. When all of the entities are in sync with one another you can increase your workouts and enjoy the results more. Finally, stop trying to be everybody else….they’ve acheived their goal…be yourself and achiev your personal goal….unless you want to continously live vicariously through the lives of others…which is not, necessarily, a good life to live.  So no matter who you are long, short, big or small…I believe that God created us all with the potential to live out our dreams…so, as Nike sorta says…go do it!’

Alright folks…Imma get lost from the gym for a few days….happy lifting and best of luck to everyone who has competitions, photo shoots or other things coming up.
