Supplementoverusage.com | The fleecing of the sport

Let me start this particular blog in saying that ‘No’ I am not  a hater for supplements. I use them my self…but obviously in much more moderation that some. Anyhow, as I was at the gym today I see these two guys talking. This guy….more novice than the other asked about becoming more jacked, losing fat and building more muscle (The mantra of all of us right?). So, as I get my Ipod ready for my workout the first thing I hear is something to this effect "Yea…my brother got some sample packs of Lipo Black and that stuff gets you jacked!".

It may not have been Lipo Black…I really don’t know but it was something black. That’s not really the point. The point is instead of saying, "Well you know the key is your diet and a considerable amount of cardio in combinataion with….’ he went straight to the rely on the supplement to fix your issue answer. Is it me or do other people have a problem with this. An addiction I tell you…a straight addiction!

I have been accused of taking fat burners and steroids recently. I have a body with tons of fat storage and some supps are off limits to me. Lots of people think that you only need certain things to get what you want. Supplements are just that supplements they will help with what you are already putting into your body. I’m not Mr. Olympia by no means but I do think that some people I know over use supplements. We all have our own BB goals and some people go future to achieve them.

A supplement accounts for 1% of reaching and/or maintaining a nice physique. I tell this to everyone who asks me what I’m taking for supplements. Agree with how some people get addicted to them and are taking why too many products at once for minimal strengh/muscle/fat burning gains. DIET is the key! Nice blog btw.

LMAO @ those guys who just automatically say supplement X got them jacked. Or supplement Y did all the work for them. I wish. We all wish that. However, this sounds a bit hypocritical coming from me because a lot of people would say I take WAY too many supplements. I have my reasons for everything I take though and primarily its to complement my diet, training, or whatever else I’m doing at the moment.

HA HA, but well, you do make a good point in the number of people who become overly reliant on supplementation at the expense of food/training. These people are getting addicted and buying into the hoopla generated by supplement companies and their favorite pro bodybulider that happens to be endorsing a supplement. Or well, the bandwagon effect.

This reminds me of a conversation I’ve had with various supp store employees. Told you I take a lot, they know me by name. These convos have ranged from how one store makes the majority of their money off or prohormones and how he can go in the gym and identify at least 10 people at any given moment that are on PH X. It spreads like wildfire, people get on it, love it, always depend on it, and then when they stop training and eating, they think the supplement is going to give it back to them.

The most hilarious convo was about supplement manufacturers that cater to the bodybuilding crowd. A number of them just throw the kitchen sink of a whole bunch of things into a product like a braindead elephant in a chemical plant, mix it all up, and hope that the person buying it will imagine an effect from their low quality product.

Placebos are the best. :-) D, I don’t think they’re addicted to supplements. I think they’re addicted to sugar pills. We all know how addictive sugar is.

To most people supplements are like hitting the Staples "easy" button. Just like hitting the easy button I have at my desk…….it just doesn’t work!
