Bikes and Biceps today..

Friday, May 29th, 2009

dnsigma

Well, not just biceps but something along there. So, this week will end my two weeks of hitting it tough in the gym. Today, I will conclude the same way I started with an arms workout with low reps and heavy weights. This afternoon I will most likely take bike ride around the city to get in some cardio and enjoy this awesome weather. Then for the weekend? No workouts (2 days rest are much needed!)

People and their workout clothes in the gym….

Friday, May 29th, 2009

dnsigma

I know that different gyms have formal and informal rules. For instance, I know that some gyms allow you to workout shirtless, ours does not. When I go to the gym, I try to wear some clothes that I don’t really care about wearing any where else or that I can throw away if something happens to them. Maybe it’s just me…because I am cheap….unfortunately, I am too aware of my environment at all times.Anyone who has worked in judicial aspects of some sort may be able to identify with this. Anyhow, there is a guy in the gym who is always ‘dressed’ for working out. He really looks like a commercial when you think about it…..Under Armour or nike sweat technology, cool dry skin tight cut off shirts, I guess they maybe like Nike performance shorts, bright white socks and the newest pair of nike workout shoes. Me on the other hand? LOL!!! Tank top, walmart shorts, and some old Nike free tennis shoes with no shoe laces because the shoe conforms to my feet so snugly!!!!

Okay…okay…really I am just making fun of myself and not other people. Just thought it would be fun to post this up.

EXCUSE ME BOY IN THE LOCKER ROOM!!!! Please don’t walk around the locker room talk loud as crap on your cell phone, while spitting on the floor that you and the rest of the children from swim school have a blast at wetting up EACH AND EVERYDAY. As you may or may not notice you all missed the toilet everyone time so I can only assume that I am standing in urine, because of the strong smell, when I do use the urina AAANnnnnnnddddd I really don’t know what I am dealing with in the other parts of the locker room because there is water every wear that you all put down there and now I know that spit is mixed within this nasty. WHERE IN THE HELL ARE YOUR PARENTS? Should you have a leash or something because you are just….arrrggggghhhhhhhhh.

Man, why do people do such ignorant things?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

On the topic of supplements and definition…

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

dnsigma

Previously in my blogs I have stated that I am trying to stay away from "supplements" for various reasons. Among them are the cost and the risk that are associated with them. However, most recently I was reading a blog by a gentlemen that talked about the supplements he used.In his list he included: zinc, multivitamin, magnesium and some other items and I am like ‘wwhhhhhhaaaaatttttt???,these are supplements?’.

Yes, dummy they are. Technically supplements are things that complete or enhances something when added to it. So, technically these things are supplementing what we already or may not have in our bodies. This is a bummer because I don’t really consider ‘multivitamins’ as a supplement neither do I consider protein to be. Now, some of those items that you see on my profile page…yes they are supplements.

I guess I could take this opportunity to reintroduce my mantra is saying that I am trying my best to stay away from the more ‘designer’ if you will supplements..you know NO products, fat burners, super creatine, kre-akalyn…you know most of the things that are hyped up in the muscle magazines. My reasons are simple and I have nothing against the people who use them….well maybe sometimes. The sometimes lies within these types of situations.I don’t really like it when people enter ‘natural’ contest and have used all of these supplements to get to where they are…I mean really…what does natural mean these days? Everything but steroids?(No pun intended).

That last line brings me to another topic, after perusing the site for a couple of days I have found that several people, at one time or another and some currently do, use steroids to build their physiques. Now, to be honest, I do not have enough knowledge about steroids to say ‘Boooooo you’re bad’. I think some people may use it to get them a boost and some are abusers. Whatever the case, I have to leave that one alone until I can research the topic some more. But, I am disappointed that I saw some awesome people including this young fella who is just massive and then I find that he has been using steroids for at least 3 or 4 years and has been winning bodybuilding competions to!!!! Arrrrggghhhhh the fleecing of bodybuilding as a sport.

Chime in folks! I know I am ignorant in certain areas and sometimes glad to be…but if you can provide some insight directly or anonymously that would be great!!!! Until next time stay safe and happy lifting!

And the Lord said ‘rest’!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

dnsigma

Well, the Lord probably did not really say that. I am just interpreting this continuous soreness in my body as a sign that I might need some. Today was chest day and as usual I am trying to hit it pretty tough. For the last two weeks or so, I have been hitting so tough…that every time I come out the gym I am drenched in sweat.

Some of you maybe like ’so what?’….I am like ‘man i just worked the f#$* out!’. So, all is well in the world of dnsigma and weightlifting. Again, since I am not in school I am constantly looking across the internet to find out more into the lifestyle called bodybuilding.I keep finding some interesting articles and some interesting bodyspace profiles too. I’ll be glad to sure one and not the other with you at later times.

In the meantime, be safe, don’t do illegal drugs and happy lifting.

Perusing the site and asking why why WHY?!?!?!?!?!??

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

dnsigma

Maybe it’s just me…but many times, like today, I am looking through the profiles of people and see certain pictures and yell, in my head ‘Why did you put that on this site?’. I know everyone has their own definition of fit and being artistic but the shower, water and super duper baby oil…hmmmmm. Well, let be honest some are absolutely hilarious and the others are well….just interesting. Does anyone else ask this question sometimes? Just curious.

Lavishing Legs???

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

dnsigma

Well I changed my mind…I don’t really like the phrase ‘lavishing legs’ anyhow as you guessed it today was leg day

Squats

Front Squats

Dumbell Sqauts

Hamstring curls

Leg Extensions

Cardio: 4 mile back ride around Memphis.

Yea…I was bored…but Memphis scenery is awesome and it was a good time to kind of check out and get in some lightweight cardio.

Got bored yesterday,so I hit the magic mile…

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

dnsigma

Yesterday I did all kind of back training. Then yesterday afternoon I was bored….just peddling around the house doing nothing. So, I put on some shorts and ran around the blocks a couple of times and hit did a mile. Weird isn’t? At least I got some random cardio

Post by: dnsigma

So I edited my blog…because of…well you fill it in…

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

dnsigma

So, sometimes I get on bodyspace and read blogs and I am like wwhhhaatttt???? Yea, I like many others have dum moments all the time. So, what do I do in those cases? Ask questions or go back and try to read the blog again for understanding. Today makes like the 5 or 6th time somebody…call them what you want…has commented on my blog with some obnoxious comment. Sometimes I just want to hit the delete button as if their comment never existed…but then something tells me not to do that.

In the past, I know I have written some controversial opinions about bodybuilding and have some friends that would totally disagree. But, I think they were smart in not commenting at all and just letting me express myself on my blog just as they do.But, I thought about something with this last blog….it was a very sensitive subject for people to understand and comprehend the totality of the situation and so I just deleted the blog.

So now..I press on….happy lifting folks!

Busting out the back

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

dnsigma

So, today I hit the gym and perform some of the following exercises:

Chin-ups

Lat-pulls

One arm cable pulls

Dumbell pulls

Back rows

Deadlifts

Today, I switched up the workout performing heavy weight and attempted to perform high reps. Man…I was exhausted by the end of the workout. This week will end the high rep portion and I will go back to heavy poundage and low reps.

Tommorow? I may swim another mile or run.I’m not to big on the cardio right now because the weight is coming off quite nicely with just weights. I fear that cardio will have me under 200 and for me that’s not cool. So we will see how it goes.

Perdon…Gym Etiquette #17

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

dnsigma

Excuse me sir…as you can see I am sweating profusely from a tough workout. Although I am really trying to be nice…I am also about to faint if I don’t have any water soon. So, can you please not stand by the fountain and shake up whatever it is you have in your lime green water bottle and look at me as if I am stupid somewhere else! Ohhh and I notice you dummy….you are the reason for another rule in Gym Etiquette of not completely changing your outfit in the actual gym. Sir…..please move yo a#$ TO THE RIGHT OF THIS WATER FOUNTAIN!!

Man some people are just idiots!!

Upstaged by the upper body…

Monday, May 18th, 2009

dnsigma

Sorry people I am just taking a point of personal privilege on my blog. For years, people have talked about the disproportionate body. I livn my personal opinion, the media has created this craving for the awesome upper body.

The upper body has most of the ’show’ muscles that people see the most…the biceps, chest, shoulders and most imporantly the abs. I mean really who looks at your legs and are like wow he’s sexy…those thick legs and nice calves really turn me on!!! Probably no one. Hence the reason for the upper body and some body spacers upstage the concept of bodybuilding with the ultimate upper body show off.

If one is to peruse the site….you will find hundreds of profiles with people showing off their abs or just their necks or their chest and some pants or maybe no bottom shots what so ever. If you do have the chance to catch a lower body shot you, many times, will find pencil legs on top of this Hulk body. Now does this emphasize the goal of what is to be achieved here on bodyspace? I really can’t answer that questions; because that, inherently lies in the eye of the beholder (i.e. my goal may be totally different from yours).

As I continue this journey of ‘bodybuilding’ I learn more and more each day. Which supplements to sample, which to may be take more often, which to not take at all, different training styles, how hard to train, how often to train….well you get it.

If there is anything that I am certain about and my opinion to all of those out there who really want to achieve a healthy body and a good physique that you understand and implement the following:

When you feel good (Being healthy) you look good(The physical aspect). So, keeping true to this mantra, it is important to develop the total body. Stop feeding your bicpes and depriving your calves….you may not know it but most women laugh at ‘big body little leg people’ and that is definetly not cool!

So, peruse the site for a training system that incorporates a total body workout…for total health…not half health.

How to calculate your magic bodybuilding numbers…there’s an app for that.

Friday, May 15th, 2009

dnsigma

So, what measurements do you need to have to make you look ‘good’ at least in a weight perspective. There’s app for that! According to this application, my measurements should be

Calculated:
Chest: 43.5
Waist:32

Thighs:24

Calves:15

Biceps:16

Forearm:13

Neck:17

Actual

Chest:44
Waist: 34
Thighs: 25

Calves:15

Biceps:15 (Cold)
Forearm:13

Neck:16

So, these measurements may be good in helping people achieve some good looks. But of course I got to do some research to really see.

Bodybuilding mental challenge…

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

dnsigma

As if it is not hard enough to do focus exercises while lifting weights…you should also try this:

Lat Pulls

Warmup: 25 - 70lbs

15 - 160lbs

20 - 180lbs

8 - 200lbs

Dumbell Pull

12 - 100lb

12 - 100lb

12 - 100lb

Pullups

15 - BW

12 - BW

12 - BW

7 - BW

7 - BW

10 - BW

10 - BW

High end cable pull

20 - 40lb

20 - 40lb

20 - 40lb

Single arm high cable pull

10 - 35lb

15 - 35lb

15 - 35lb

Dumbell Rows

12 - 20lb

12 - 20lb

12 - 20lb

So what you see here is my attempt to recall every exercise I did in the gym and the reps. I do this every once in a while as a mental exercise. If you get a chance, try to do the same..also log your time in the gym too. When you get home or in the car or the changing room…write down your info for tracking purposes. Plus, this allows you to move faster through the gym and keep mental focus instead of stopping and writing all the time.

Peace out folks!

Logic behind attaining your ‘dream body’

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

dnsigma

So, I am trying to see what my ideal weight should be to be classified within a certain weight class or have a round about physique such as some bodybuilding winners. So I am guessing that the poundage per inch ratio will help me in determining the ideal weight for my height. In other words if you are 5′9 and 215 and you look great; What weight would I need to be ideally to look the same if I am 6′1? So here I go,

I chose  random bodybuilders to speculate from: Jason Williams (6′3 & 236lbs), & Timothy Corscadden (5′9 215lbs).

Per inch each person is approx. 3.15lbs/inch and  3.03lbs/inch respectively.

So, that would bring me to about  227lbs or 218lbs.

Now, these numbers are, of course, a little misleading because they do not take into account how this weight will be distributed throughout the body. These two gentlemen have some slightly different physiques and obviously genetics (i.e. one may have naturally huge calves where another may not). So, this number just gives me a round about to shoot for. Other considerations such as muscle density and a balance design of symmetry throughout the body must also be sought after to achieve this ‘ideal’ physique.

Working on those tree trunks…

Monday, May 11th, 2009

dnsigma

Whew…it felt good to get back in the gym today. So, what better way to get those hormones going by doing a good leg work out. Every year, at different times, I get fascinated with building up my legs. My wife loves to talk about how I have chicken legs…which I might…but I think they are okay for the size of my body. I don;’t believe that I am top heavy like a lot of people that I see into bodybuilding. But, being the student that I am…of course I am going to research this tonight and come back with some evidence to prove or disprove my point.

Anyhow…ATG Squats, slow leg extensions, hamstring curls, calf raises and donkey raises all kick started my mass building routine.

Holla!

Check out of school and into the gym…

Monday, May 11th, 2009

dnsigma

So, for the people who have rode with me through the semester. You rode with me through my fasting period (Yes, I am Catholic), you rode with me through the stress of my students (I am at private school and it’s Catholic…so if you know anything…you know it’s a lot going on!),you also rode with me through the announcement of my wife being pregnant. So, in the words of Charles Dickens,it was the best of times and it was the worst of times. So how did I do? Well Miked512…after writing about 8,000 pages for a scientific publishing class and computing 500 pages (No I am actually serious) of the ANOVAS,ANCOVAS,Post-hoc F-Test,Neuman-Keuhls,Mannings Test,Power ratios,Homogeneity of variances, homoedacistiy, linearity, univariate analysis, significant and substantiative results….I finally finished my semester much better than I thought. Last semester I had a 3.96, this semester was much lower being about a 3.2. WHATEVER!!! I am just glad to be done and now? BACK TO THE GYM!!!!!!!!

So, for a few days I am officially checked out of school and back into the gym. I got a lot of frustration to take out on some weights…so watch out!!!! Best of luck to you people and thanks for your help and tuning in!

Working out.Joe Plavik style?!?!?!?!

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

dnsigma

Most recently I have started on this workout plan outlined in his book entitled ‘The Power that moves muscle’. No this is not a review for the book….it’s my experience so far. At first, I would go to the gym and workout and see some growth and possibly be sore. But, now I am sweating before I leave the gym and definetly sore some days!!!! I think the book is good because it helps dummies like me set a plan for progress. Currently, I am just into week 2 and still hitting high reps, for the most part. But soon…soon my friend….I can get back up to the heavy weights….MY FAVORITE. So, we will see how this plan turns out. Is there anyone else out there that has been on this plan? I’ll be glad to know if it helped you.

Peace out!

Perdon…gym etiquette #16

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

dnsigma

Excuse me sirs, please do not come into the locker room, fresh out of the sauna and talk about how hot is was (dduugggghhhhh) and you are not even sweating at all. Then sir, please don’t stand in the mirror and check each other out and comment on the lack of muscle of tone that both of you have. Sir, also please don’t stand in the mirror, continue to flex and talk about how you don’t feel like going back into the gym and that you want a huge chest only.

I think it’s just me….but the things some people do in the gym is just a little weird. But to think about it…it might be me.To be honest, it probably takes this kind of vainess and self-motivation to stay hype for the gym. I guess when I hear someone doing it….it just makes me laugh! LOL!!!

The basics of bodybuilding…

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

dnsigma

So…school is officially out (At least for me) Thank the lord!!!! Now that summer time is around the corner…those who didn’t obtain that spring break body are on quest #2 the summer time sizzle. I am just speculating but I bet the sells of supplements, especially fat burners, are sky rocketing around about this time. Anything wrong with that? NO!!!! Everybody has to experience life in their own way….you live it and you learn from it.

Speaking of things that I have learned. Since I have went from making nickels to pennies..I have cut back a lot on my supplement purchases. Yea…I tried them…Superpump, NO Explode, Lipo,Hydroxycut…man the list goes on and on. Did they work? Uggghhh yeeeeaaa!!!! Was it worth the money? At the time it was…but now…I really don’t think so.

Today, I am using what I called the ‘bare minimums’ 1.BCAA’s,2.Protein and maybe some creatine every once in a while and a multivitamin. I am a little uncomfortable with the creatine because of the long term effects I read that it has on your body.

Anyhow, with these basic things…I am much stronger than I have been in the past. Of course I had to change my lifting plan and especially eating habits. But, after a while…all of these things become part of your ordinary lifestyle. So, for those of you who have time…give it a try…for those that want faster results give some other supplements a try.

Now, I would like to try SOME and definetly not ALL of the supplements that promise exponential energy, muscle growth and other things in a matter of days. But so far as using them on a monthly basis?  I don’t think so.But, more power to those who can afford it…I’m not knocking ya’.

Just wanted to pass on some advice for those who may be new to the bodybuilding cyberspace. I hope this helps you on your journey. Peace out folks! Now…go lift!!!

Bodybuilding break before finals…..ECA Stack?

Monday, May 4th, 2009

dnsigma

So, this morning I took off work to prepare for Behavorial Sciences Statistics II. Yea, sounds like fun right? NOT!!! So, instead of hitting the books this morning I hit the gym to hopefully get the brain and body cranked up…that’s was the physical workout…tonight comes the mental one.

Tangent Note - I constantly wavering the line of no supplements and maybe one every once in a while. Truly, my quest is to use the basic essentials not all of the fluff. Someone was telling me the other day that an ECA stack would be useful….Please send me your comments about this…I think I will look for myslef after the break today. Thanks folks….wish me luck and have a good workout!

People are just dying to be healthy…

Another reason why I stopped taking various supplements…this is just a crying shame…and I mean for companies to make stuff that does this to peopl!!!
* Weight-loss products linked to liver damage  * Two supplements can still be sold  WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The maker of the widely sold Hydroxycut weight-loss supplements is recalling 14 products after reports of liver damage and one death, U.S. health officials said on Friday.  The Food and Drug Administration urged consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products, which are made by Iovate Health Sciences Inc and marketed for weight loss, boosting energy and other uses.  "The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risk. Adverse events are rare, but exist," said Dr. Linda Katz, interim chief medical officer in the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.  The agency has received 23 reports of liver problems ranging from jaundice to damage that required a liver transplant, Katz said. One person died.  A message on the voice mail for Iovate Health Sciences in Ontario, Canada, announced the products were being recalled. Company officials could not be reached for further comment.  Two products, Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia, were not included in the recall, the FDA said.  A list of the products is included in the FDA announcement here  (Reporting by Lisa Richwine and Susan Heavey, Editing by Gerald E.
