Perdon…Gym etiquette #11

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

dnsigma

Excuse me sir there is a fully functional locker room in the back of this facility for you to change clothes in. Please do not come into the gym pull of your sweater,t-shirt,pants,socks, & shoes off and throw them on the floor by the door, leave them and then go and workout as if this was your personal gym. Are you kidding me dude? Are you mentally ill or simply no home training? Really…you would think that because you are in college you would have some higher level of thinking and know not to do this!

People I am weak when it comes to hollidays and food. I guess that’s why my progress in this bodybuilding thing has not been as remarkable as I have wanted it to be. Yesterday, sat and had a couple of drinks….alcoholic ones with my dad. Then munched on a southern favorite called Rotel dip. Today, partook in Jamaica’s finest Red Stripe and the plans for tomorrow are even worse. The man is on guard until I open the bottle…every barrell is different every bottle taste the same…what am I talking about you may ask??!?!!?!?!? Or you may not…..Anyhow it’s Tennessee’s finest!!!! Jack Daniels!!!!

Merry CHRISTmas people! and for all others happy hollidays!!!

2008 please stay for another day…

Friday, December 19th, 2008

dnsigma

People always talk about what has happened during their lifetime. Well, in my short time….PLENTY has happened. Global climate changes, seconds being added to the world clock?, Wars, an African-American president, All-time olympist, scandals of all magnitudes, and off all things an official recession! Man I almost hate to see 2008 for fear of what will happen as we go into a new year?!?!?! But the battle must go on right? Right!

In a few days, we will all welcome new bodyspacers who have made it a resolution to ‘lost weight’ or become fit. So, if we don’t have another major reason to look forward to 2008…maybe it could be purpoting the idea of regenerativity and sharing what we have learned about bodybuilding with the newbies?!?!?!?

Just personal thoughts…happy lifting folks!

That guy on the front of the bodybuilding.com website

Friday, December 19th, 2008

dnsigma

So, bodybuilding.com has done a nice job at redesigning the look of the front page of the site. Everytime you click onto the site there is a guide….I think it’s the naturaloneky?!?!?!?! Something like that. Anyhow, this guy has an amazing story and is a good role model for other bodyspacers….dedication and true sacrifice = results that you feel proud of deep down.

Congrats to him and all of the other bodyspacers that may soon grace the cover. I guess since we are coming upon a new year….are we coming up on a new focus? Good job bodybuilding.com!

Excuse me sir…you weren’t bothering me until my Ipod battery ran down. Then, I noticed that you were bench pressing and would sit-up and talk to yourself? Are you crazy? Ohhh I see, you’re just weird! Sir, are your phone calls so important that you must talk on your bluetooth while in the gym lifting? Like really? Are you for real?

FIT 4 LIFE

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

dnsigma

This mantra is consciously and unconciously lived by many here on bodyspace. My take on this idea is probably less of a degree than some…but it is one that I live by. Yesterday, I did some cardio while watching my man Barack obama announce some new members of his cabinet. It was great….the cardio and the announcements. Fit 4 life???? I’m trying..

Best of luck to you in your goals.

Doctor in the house part 2

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

dnsigma

And I am talking about the medical ones only. So, this may be the doctoral student in me coming out but I was thinking today about the science and the art of bodybuilding.First let me ask you a question, when you look on bodyspace and see people…what is the first body part you try to look at? Most people, I think, would say "ABS!!!". But, why is that???? I was wondering today if we have become so infatuated with looks that we have over looked health or maybe have gotten them mixed up. For instance, I currently weight about 208 or 210. But for my height 6,0 I am considered overweight? But, if someone has abs that are as pretty as a washboard….people are like daaaaannnngggg they are fit!!!! However, some studies have shown that the science behind those bodies have put the health systems in jeopardy.

I did not complete this entry last time I wrote it…so here is the continuation..

Undocumented examples, because I don’t feel like citing articles and websites all day, include overtaxing the liver with the supplements such as high protein levels, creaine, fat burners, and you know the other stuff we take. Then there is always the bad effects of steroids. Sooooooo……what do we do where do we go?!??!?!??!!?!? Is it okay for someone who is healthy, they may not have the washboard abs or tones arms or nice legs, but according to the government are within a healthy range…is that not enough??????

Don’t get me wrong…bodybuilding is awesome and I will continue to be in pursuit of this lifestyle. But, I guess at times I have to be critical of myself to keep my mental and personality state in check(i.e. "Don’t think you are the best damn thing since sweet tea!) That’s a southern thing for you folks that are not from the south. Every once in a while I find myself being a little conceited and then I take a look at a sample of the population of people around me and on the site and noticed that the overall consensus is significantly stronger than my opinions. What does this mean???? In my opinion, the average population is much more concerned about good looks than I am.

So, did it take all of this language to say that simple point? No, but as I stated before…I am somewhat of a geek, an engineer by trade and a doctoral student so we think in weird ways such as this. Anyhow, I thought that I would share with the public to see what thoughts other people may have about all this prettiness with the physiques of men and women…

Happy lifting folks!!!

Are you on the fan club list?

Friday, December 12th, 2008

dnsigma

So, I hate to go to a web page and someones fan club list has like 100 or 200 people on it!!! I’m like what the…..? So, then I looked at the ones on my fan list and made this criterion:

1. If you do not have a profile pic, rejected

2. If you send some weirdo message, rejected

3. If you are showing your pubs on bodyspace, rejected

4. If you are a male and taking some homoerotic type pictures for me to look at, rejected.

The next step was to ask myself…so why do other people reject folks? I got my reason…what’s yours?

And then I found my way back to the gym….

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

dnsigma

Today? I was not really feeling work…as a matter of fact no one was not even my boss…she told me so! So, the good part about my job is are the degrees of freedom I have…like leaving when I feel like it to hit the gym. So, getting in the gym…I figured that I need to play it cool since I had been missing out for a while. So, I did about 6 supersets of squats and dumbell lunges followed be leg presses and toe lifts, then I did calf raises and donkey raises, took a shower…headed back to work.

In the words of role models…"Today was a good day."

Perdon…Gym etiquette # 10

Friday, December 5th, 2008

dnsigma

Excuse me mystery person…please keep your children or those that you watch after with you!!!!! Because I don’t want to walk into the locker room with nothing but my swimming trunks on (Because I just come from swimming) and get something out of my locker to turn around and find a small boy staring at me. Then I do not want this young child to ask me "Why are you staring at me?" and then when I answer by saying "Because you were staring at me." and then he runs up by me and begins to ask "What is your name?" and followed by "How old are you?". Okay so I am Catholic and have been all of my life…I have seen and heard of these circumstances before. Excuse me mystery parent where are you? Mystery child where is your guardian and why are you not with them but you are around me and akwardly close to me?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?

Wwwwwooooowwwwwwwww……Never will I ever let my kids run around a gym by themselves especially in a locker room where grown men are naked 85% of the time and they are all behind closed doors….aaarrrrgggghhhhhh those are some bad thoughts!!!!!

If you’re happy and you know it….

Friday, December 5th, 2008

dnsigma

clap your hands!!! If you’re happy and you know it…clap your hands!!! If you’re happy and you know it and you really want to show it, if you’re happy and you know it clap your hands(CLAP,CLAP!!!)

Now, you need to get to writing. Many times on bodyspace I see some people who have made some awesome progress. But, yet they still feel as if they have not done much. People…you sometimes even the most humblest person needs to pat themselves on the back. So,take a minute to write something about your accomplishments…no matter how big or small they may be. There is a note to take from the people who appear on the top profiles page of this site….they have made some progress are happy about it and really love to show it!!!

My last blogs over this month will not necessarily be about me..but about us. You know…kind of paying it forward in a public way…I share my story…you share yours…we motivate him and motivate her…inspire something here and a little something there. So here is the proclimation for the day:

Whereas, Bodyspace is a social networking site designed for the free exchange of thought and ideas on bodybuilding,

Whereas, members of said Bodyspace actively engage in positve reiforcement in pursuit of a better and healthier lifestyle,

Whereas. all members have access to free blogs for the purposes of recording their personal interest.

Be it resolved that the month of December officially be designated as "I am an achiever" month.

Happy lifitng folks….hey I just thought of something vote for me in the bodyspace model contest. Thanks!

Perdon…Gym etiquette #9

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Excuse me tall person, who is 6′3 in the gym….please do not walk over next to me with your buddy, who is shorter than me and talk about how you wish you where shorter and then say that you use to look cut up (While pointing at me…) when you were skinny! Sir, you need to look in the mirror one more time…because you are still small!!! Sir, don’t mention that you are just 205….guess what homie me too!!!!! Ohhh and sir, please don’t continue to talk so much about your height, weight, and cut up ness so much around that it irritates me…for some reason I feel as if you wouldn’t say all of this if I was not in the gym with my tank top on.

I am so glad that life has taken me through some ups and downs.Because it my younger days, I would have said "Hey, you talkin ’bout me?" or something like "D_)#($2 can you shut up!". But see, life has trained me well and I said all of that in my head and kept going with my workout plan, showered and peacefully went back to work!LOL!!!!!

As you can see…I did not have my IPOD today. People I promise I am not crazy, don’t plan on being a bad ass, and actually I am the last person to want to fight. But, as I tell most people don’t let the polo shirt or shirt and tie that I wear everyday fool ya’!

Happy lifting!!!!

Corrections to your preconceived thoughts…

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

dnsigma

Some people are born and bred for the gym…I mean these people live for and live in the gym. There is nothing at all wrong with that because that’s their interest. My interest? Computers, music, socializing, school…as you can see the gym is not mentioned. Over the past few days, I have really been thinking about this pursuit called bodybuilding. As this year comes to a close, I started to think about the comments people have made to me both positive and negative. This, ultimately, made me think about what motivates people to stay in the gym….hence the blog article titled Authoring Your Life . In this blog, I was wondering what people where doing to author their life, despite the negative forces that may occur every once in a while. Despite the notion that I may live in the gym….I really don’t. My aesthetic appearance, which is not great, comes from lots of trial and error and living life as many other people do. So, what am I really saying? I realyl don’t know except to say that lessons are learned in time and the pursuit of happiness is as unique as your soul….so do yo’ thang folks.

Happy liftting!!!

Authoring your life…..

Monday, December 1st, 2008

dnsigma

People sometimes fail to realize the power of them being able to author their own lives. Some believe that fate has it’s place and that their life can not be scripted by their choices. I, on the other hand, beleive that we all can be the authors of our life…scripting future moments by the things we do today. So, how does all this translate to bodybuilding?

Well, history will tell us ( Which seems to be a major predictor in most things of life) that we will often times inherit the ills and of our families in some form or fashion. This does not exclude health habits and possibly looks. Well, I have seen my family….some look great and others?!?!?!?!? Well, they probably did not make the best choices during their earlier years!

Some people think that it is insane to have a lifestyle of working out and trying to stay fit. Some people life because they believe we are crazy…and we turn around a laugh at them because we think they are nuts. It’s kind of like that says "You laugh because I’m different, I laugh because you all are the same."

So, as we approach the end of the old and prepare for the new. I just wanted to write a message of hope and encourage everyone to keep on keeping on. From personal experience my journey has not been short lived at all…in many instances

  1. I have not made the same progression as many others on this site,
  2.  I don’t have as much money to purchase as many supplements as others
  3. and my job and sometimes jobs require me to be out of the gym more so than in the gym.
  4. Food (I’m really being serious) is a BIG weakness for me….especially soul food.
  5. Going to school, working and family is strenous enough.

So, I like many of you have a set of challenges that face me in this journey. But, getting on this site, getting encouragement exchanging ideas… and seeing people’s funny comments keeps me encourage and ultimately keeps me in the positive spirit of authoring my life. So, thanks everybody…I will consider this my Christmas present from all of you….hhmmmmmm not the problem is trying to figure out how I can return the favor?!?!?!?!!?

Happy lifting!!!!
