Need Advice ( so please Help )

Alright, I’m currently starting my new routine to try and gain some weight. My plan is 6-8 weeks to put some beneficial weight on.

So here’s where I need the advice. I have read from different sources for my calorie intake. But depending on who wrote the article, it can be from 2500 - 3500 calories. So now I’m not sure which to target.

Would it be better to start at the low end, after 1 week check weight if gaining , make no change, if no weight gain, then add 100-200 calories per day. Continue this until I find the proper #’s for me.

So what do you all think????  I need the advice of some of you guys in their 40’s for what has worked for them.

So all advice is welcome.

It depends on your metabolism. Some guys have fast metabolisms and eat 4000 calories, like myself, others only require 2500 to gain. Instead of worrying about calories I eat 6 meals a day with a mix of lean protien complex carbs and a fruit or veggie in each meal. Eat enough so that you are feeling hungry after about 2.5-3 hours. Then eat again. If you are hungry after an hour you ate to little and if you are not hungry at 3 hours you probably ate to much. Good luck.

Bwestgat’s advice is good…but i wouldn’t worry bout calorie comsuption as much as protein and carb intatke. I would aim for at least 1.5 grams of protein per lbs of bodyweight and 2 grams of carbs per lbs of bodyweight. Then every two weeks add an ounce to each meal till you reach your desired weight. I’ve been doin this for three weeks and already gained 10lbs….and only a half % bodyfat.

Thanks guys, I appreceate the tips.
I’m currently doing the protein/ carb ratio that diehard recommended. Except for adding every 2 weeks.

Bwestgat’s, I’m currently eating 5 meals a day plus the Post workout shake and supplements. I have been just preparing the 5 meals and eating almonds or an apple in between if I feel hungry.
I have been doing this for 2 weeks myself and I have gained 3.4lbs. Still trying to decide what to purchase to check BF%. What do you all use???

Thanks again for the responses, Still trying to gain knowledge, It seems I hae been bitten by the health bug, thanks to all the support from many people on this site.

    THANKS

    Hey Donnie,

I use one of those Tanita Ironman scales for tracking my BF%. I don’t trust the raw numbers, but I do think it has value for tracking changes. As long as you weigh yourself on the same day at the same time under similar conditions it should help. I take my measurement every Friday morning and the numbers seem to be consistent. This way, when I start gaining weight I can at least tell where it is coming from by tracking the BF% changes.
