Summer of Back Pain

July 29, 2009

Looking for advice from my fellow BB.com friends.

Its been a frustrating summer, just as I was makeing some good progress another set back.

Been trying to heal a bad back, L4 & L5 disc troubles, so far I have had 2 Epideral steroid shots, some improvement but not where I want it.  Should have took some down time while getting the shots, but had a big home project and didn’t want to wait. So now I’m still paying the price.

Currently going to try useing MSM and  Fish OIl as well as an inversation table to try and rehab.  Currently every night I have to go to sleep with an ice pack on my back to be able to have a comfortable next day.

Mentally I’m dealing with it and I took 1 month off from lifting hopeing for improvement, but since there hasn’t been much , I decided to start lifting again. I can do most lifts, except for Squats and military presses( these really cause a lot of pain )  The good news is that I used the down time  for a small cut, dropped my BF% to 13%, did loose some muscle but under these condition I will accept that.

So any advice or tips on treatment or supplements would be appreceated.

Tore Right Bicep Muscle

February 13, 2009

Well life threw me another curve ball. Tore my right Bicep muscle Tuesday. I felt like I was finally moveing forward with my lifting.  Just have to be smart and take my time and heal properly. Looks like a good time to start a cut. I really want to cut  about 5% of BF.  So improve diet and increase cardio. I’m going to try and start lifting again next week, as long as the arm isn’t to tender and just use medium weight with 10-12 rep range.

I over come health issues and I will overcome this injury, so only a small step back, comeing back wiser and even more determined to improve my body.

Carb Cycling & HIT training

October 23, 2008

Decided to do a 5 week Carb cycle and HIT training starting today.  wanting to drop a little Body fat and then start trying to gain again. I’m tired of stuffing so much food down so I ‘m changeing things up a little.

Interested too see how I respond, plan on continueing to train hard and increase cardio and see what happens. One step at a time.

Low Carb!! Not A Option???

October 1, 2008

Alright people need some advice.  Starting to plan for my next cut, ( Jan 09 )  I know its a few months out, but I’m always planning ahead.

Here’s my delema. I know you need to reduce your carb intake to drop body fat. But for me its a very fine line of how many carbs to drop. If I drop to low, my energy level plumits and then I get sick. This has happened several times.   I’ve been able to make improvements, but I’m wanting to drop about 5% more BF, I’m trying to add some muscle over the winter, because I don’t want to drop below 170, when I cut, just a mental thing, I’m guessing right now I could drop to 175 and be around 10-11% BF, which would be fine for me.

So any advice on how to get my carbs down and keep my energy up????

I have tried to increase my protein and I’m takeing BCAA, glutamine and upping my vitamin intake to try to counter act this, but not haveing the success that I’m hopeing for.

I see several people on this site in my age ranch with very low BF%, so I know it can be done, just I’m struggling on how.  My long term goal goal is to have  a nice beach body with a good 6-pack by birthday #50. So I’ve got 21 months to get there. I have to do everything in moderation, with a weak immune system, its always baby steps.

So any advice would be greatly appreceated.

Time to grow

August 13, 2008

Well finally decided to try to gain. Didn’t want to drop below 170lbs, just a mental thing.  Want to add 8 - 10 lbs of lean muscle. So I’m going to go on a 10 week cycle to try and add the weight. Increaseing my calories and changeing up my lifting routine. Breaking the body parts into 3 groups, and lift heavy every fifth day.  Going to target 3000 calories a day, protein at 1.5gr per lb.  Carbs I’m focusing on complex ones, and minimizing the simple ones. Good bye soft drinks, fries, pizza and chocolate, I’m going to be hateing myself for a while, but it will be worth it when I hit my targets.

My main concern is overtraining, I have been very prone to get sick if I puch too hard, so I will have to keep the nutrients up and really try to get quality sleep every night.

So any questions or comments are always welcome, still trying to learn all this stuff, it seems to never end.

Until the next time.

This blog is mainly a way for me to track myself, and maybe give others in my age group a little insite, that may help them.

Middle of summer

July 30, 2008

I’m running a little behind my goals for the summer, a 2 week stint with Brochiatis, put me behind.  But still striveing forward.  Plan on starting a new routine a target from 8/9, I go for my 6 month check up on 8/8 and if all is well then time to try and push forward an gain some weight, in hopes of keeping the waist as trim as I can. This healthy habits thing is turning into a job.

So I’ll be starting a blog witht he new routine just to help me stay organized and to give my friends something to read and chuckle about.

4 weeks to Summer

May 5, 2008

Alright its crunch time, 4 weeks until its summer, still need to lose about 5 lbs, I feel like I have had a succesful winter, so its time to see. I’m 8 lbs heavier than I was in October and still have the most of my definition in my midsection, so now it will be safe to cut a little more form the old belly. So I’ll post some new pictures in  4 weeks.  Only time will tell. I may be old but I can hold my own with most of the younger crowd.
