Come on in Stranger(s)!
Thursday, July 31st, 2008Greetings~
Hello all! I am not that big into blogging but it seems like its the all of a sudden cool thing to do these days. If you’ve looked over my profile at all, you would know that I love sports and am a ex NCAA football player. I have been working out with and without weights for years, and at my peak I was 245 and about 15% bodyfat.
In football it’s not about how you look, but more about for you preform. Honestly back in the those days I would have blindly said that bodybuilders weren’t real athletes because when you start caring more about how you look over how you perform, you lose the entire essence of being athletic. Now I see that hard work, dedication, commitment and competition define a true athlete. All of which defines anyone that is mentally tough enough to commit to the bodybuilding lifestyle.
New Beginnings~
After a minor injury kept me from the last game of my senior year, I gave up on training all together. I started drinking, eating the wrong foods, and smoking. It wasn’t until about 2 years after I played that I decided that I was unhappy with the way that I felt and looked and wanted to start over. I found this site and was inspired to get back on the wagon (or is it off the wagon?). I started taking swimming classes, but figured out that I needed something that was more similar to football, and starting boxing at a local club. After almost a year of that plus lifting 2-3 times per week, I was ready to try something else. Thats when I got addicted to running. My goal is to be able to run a 10k with a decent time, and maybe train for a full marathon in the future. The only problem that I found with running is that you will lose a ton of weight, fat and muscle, if you don’t take the right steps to protect your body from breaking down. I eat lots of clean carbs and protein in any given day to compensate for what I lose. I have been able to maintain a good size (I’m at 205-208 now) and also good muscle tone. Currently I am at 12% bodyfat, but I am pushing myself to get to single digit status.
Final thought~
I’m not sure if I will be blogging here everyday or what exactly I will be blogging about. I’ll try to talk about the ups and downs of my workouts, activities, and diets. I hope that you all will leave positive feedback on anything I write, and share ideas on things that you have tried in the past. Today was my first day of spinning, so I’ll talk about that next time!
Best.
A.
