Still Making those positive changes… sort of : /

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Another day at work with a computer, another day of workin’ out in the books.  I have a bad knee so I can’t really wail on my legs like I should on Day 5 of P90X, but I got a good burn. Somewhere in the forums I read that a guy did Ab Ripper X before his actual workout. I’ve been doing that as well, and it really helps me power through it.

Last night I succumber and went to the favorite bar with my brother… But I was really good, right til the end.  I drank water all night, and snuck the odd cigarette here or there.  It wasn’t til closing time that my drunk friend bought me a vodka soda, and I accepted. It was only one though.  And not even a double!

I had practice this morning, and the positive changes i’ve made this week seem to already be paying dividends. I played more like the player I want to be, and really never seemed to get winded like I used to.  I thought my legs would be really sore, but that wasn’t really the case. I’m afraid that’s how I’m going to feel tomorrow though, and tomorrow is my first game of the new season. Please don’t be too sore when it really matters, legs.

p.s. I gave up Kenpo X today for soccer practice.  In all fairness, soccer practice was 3 hours in the Texas heat, and by the time I got home, it was already time to get ready for work.  I got a good calorie burn going though.

Still chuggin’ down the right track

Friday, August 28th, 2009

It’s funny that i’m struggling so early into making these changes.  I managed to stay in Wednesday night, but I half-assed Yoga X.  I really, really, really struggle with Yoga X.  I’ve come really close to just dropping it all together and doing Stretch X in it’s place.  An hour and a half of something you hate soo bad, and causes soo much pain is a lot!  But I try to remind myself of the benefits, like how much better I felt in the past, after like 3 sessions.  Well regardless, I only got through the Sun Salutations, which is better than nothing.

I went to the store last night and bought some food for the diet.  That’ll kick this transformation up another notch.  I just have a "challenge" with following a strict diet, working out, AND dealing with people.  Work stresses me out, and all I do is deal with people all day!  I tried to coincide my physical make-over with a spiritual one as well.  I started reading a book of devotionals, but that’s sort of stalled.  I’ve been doing more jaw and fist-clenching than praying.  But whatever stressors irk me today, I’m going to take out on my legs!  Since I failed to work out this morning, i’ve saved it for the afternoon.

Updated, so here’s the new plan…

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

So I got you updated yesterday.  So my new plan is to start P90X again, which I did last week, but restarted again this past Monday. So Monday, the 24th of August was my Day 1 of Phase 1. I found some great logs to print out on the ‘net, put them in a nice folder so I can keep track or plan workouts whenever.  I was looking to see if maybe someone had made some sort of diet log, so i could keep track of what I was eating, but no luck. I guess I will just have to do it the old-fashioned, hand-written way.

My whole reason for joining bb.com was to help keep accountable, and motivated. Not having a computer at home doesn’t really help me, but I do have a computer at work! And i’m at work at 5 days a week.  So my goal is to at least get on here once a day when i’m at work.

So tomorrow is my first round of Yoga X (this is always the first roadblock), and also my day off (we’ll see where tonight ends)

Any other p90X people read this, start adding me!

Updates

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Well it’s been a long time since I blogged, and I thought the reason was a good one, but now I realize that it was just another lame excuse.

The financial difficulties that come along when you are putting a parent through school, working a ****ty job, etc, etc, etc, often require to pawn laptops, desktops, guitars, etc, etc, etc.

It’s true, not having the internet lost me the ability to update my bodyspace. But it didn’t cost me the ability to continue working out!  Just because my paycheck was going to bills instead of supplements, didn’t mean I couldn’t continue working out! I just masked all of these "challenges" as reasons why I couldn’t live my awesome life, and in reality, I was just making excuses.

I continually struggle with being an "all or nothing" sort of guy, and now, at 26 years old, realize that I’ve missed out on a lot of great opportunities in life because I figured i’d wait until things got "better."  Pssh. To hell with that guy. I hate that guy. I want it now.

So, I originally joined because I wanted to improve for a sport.  Last season, my soccer team, joined with a couple of other soccer teams to start a club.  We were originally sponsored by a local brewery ( Hell yeah!) and things sort of steam-rolled and we’re sponsored by a lot of local businesses now.  Pretty cool.  I set a goal of becoming my teams captain, a goal which would require some hard work, but was also attainable. Well I earned the armband in tryouts, then sort of rested on my laurels physically. Well no more.

Nike’s doing their new soccer campaign, "My Pledge" and since I wish i was a Nike endorsed athlete, I’ll join the fun. "My pledge is to show up to every game this season, in better shape than I was the previous game!"
