back pain

I was at the gym this morning doing legs and while I was warming up with about 60% of my working squat weight, I starting to feel a pull in my lower back. I was in correct form with a light weight, but I am still in pain and it has been 12 hours. I called my doctor and he said if I didn’t feel any discomfort in my legs I should be fine with some ibuprofin. I have used  heat and ice and ibuprofen, but I am still in pain. Please tell me that someone has some useful advice for me.

calorie intake

I have read a lot about how many calories I should eat in a day and what percent of those calories should be protien, carbs, and fat. I counted my calories for the first time yesturday and was suprised at my results. I ate 1579 calories - 57% from protien, 28% from carbs, and 15% from fat. I am very overweight and want to lose weight, so I think 1600 - 2000 cal per day is good, but I had no clue I was eating more protien than I needed and not enough carbs. I will check my total again today and try to focus on a more balanced ratio.

back day

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Went to the gym today. It was back day. I am working on being able to do pull ups without any assistance. I am unable to do any right now. I am also working up to a 1.5 mile run. That is going well so far. I have set goals for Jan 13th and I am on track for the running and my weight, but not the unassisted pull ups. I am very heavy and the muscles used to do pull ups are not very strong yet. I will continue to work hard and make small gains.

off day

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

I finally got out of bed and went to the gym to do some cardio on my off day. I did 45 minutes on treadmill including a .6125 mile run. That is keeping me on track to be able to run 1.5 miles by Jan 13th. I was suprised at the number of people at the gym as it is cold and rainy here. Today is also my weigh in day. I am down to 264lbs. Still a along way to go, but I am on track.

getting out of bed

I work nights and I am usually out of bed by 1100am CST, but it is cold and raining outside and it is making it hard to get out of bed. I finally managed to get up at 130. Today is an off day for the gym, but since I slept an extra 2 hours I will go do a bit of cardio. I will let you know how it went when I return home.

who needs lights?

I went to the gym this morning and the power was out. Luckily, someone was there to let me in as the 24 hour access key did not work. I started my shoulder training, then I realized that the eliptical machine was powered by pedaling. I finished my shoulders and calves then moved on to the eliptical. Despite not having power, I managed to get a good workout in. I will do another cardio this afternoon to help get rid of all the turkey I will eat at my brothers house. I hope you all have a great thanksgiving.

pull-ups

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

I have lost some weight, but I am still very heavy. I want to be able to do pull-ups. Can someone give my some good advice as to how to achieve this goal? I do weight assisted pull-ups now, but I am unable to even move my body upwards on the pullup bar.
