I’m glad recovery week is over. Back to a good work out. All the push ups went well. Shoulder held up good. Especially on one arm push ups. I thought it was going to be weak. But it felt strong. However, I do the one arm push ups on my knees. Going to take a little practice to get to the feet. The only routine that hurt a little was weighted circles. After chair dips, my triceps felt like they were going to explode. And that’s just the 3rd routine. By half way, they felt better. Should be really sore tomorrow.

I slept a little later this morning. If 7 am is not late for some. It is for me, by an hour. On the weekends, I’m usually up by 6 am. Had my breakfast and went to the store to get groceries for phase 2. Even though I made a list, I forgot a couple items. So I have to go back. I almost didn’t stretch. Just wanted to relax this morning. But there’s a few stretches that I need to do. Concerning my shoulder. So got through stretching, now off to the store again.

I was up a little late last night. Went to the football game. And it was interupted by a storm that swept through the area. It was a little over an hour delay. Our team won. YAAA.. So I was tired this morning. It seems I burned more calories this time than last again. That’s twice this week. I wonder why that is happening.
Morning - Kenpo
- Avg HR - 157
- Time - 59
- Calories burned - 920
Afternoon - Mowing
So I wore my HR monitor while I mowed my yard today. To see how many calories I burn while mowing. I have a large yard. (front & back) And I have a push mower that is not self propelled. It’s all me. So here are the results.
- Time - 57 min
- Calories burned - 959
I’m not sure what my average HR was. I have to hit the button every so often to get a heart rate. During my work outs I’m able to write these down and then get an average. Since I was mowing, could not do that. But I would guess it was around 150.

Rained some more this morning. That yard is going to be a booger to mow tomorrow. I saw my Orthopedic Surgeon today. He said the soreness and some of the pain will continue for a few more months. So by Christmas I may be close to 100%. He was a little concerned that I was working out again. But I assured him that I’m doing lite weights and not pushing it too far. I only lift within the comfort zone. For example, I’ll go to where I feel a little discomfort in my shoulder. And don’t go past that. So each week, it seems to get further along. He’s ok with that. Also, the muscles in my shoulder had atrophied during recovery. So the muscles in my shoulder are flatter than my other shoulder. So it will take time to build those back up. He said it may be about 3 months by the time I see improvement. I have goal to achieve.
Well, it’s high school football tonight. It’s the school I graduated from and both my kids graduated from. They’re supposed to have a great running back this year. Looking forward to see what he can do.

Easy day today. I got a good stretch today. It did rain good at the house today. The grass should be nice and tall and thick by Saturday. I’m going to wear my HR monitor and see what kind of calorie burn I get. It should be good. I have a large yard. Tomorrow is going to be fun. I work half day on Firdays. After work, I have an appointment with my Orthopedic Surgeon. Just another follow up since the surgery. Then I’ll come home and do Core. Tomorrow night is what I’m really looking forward to. It’s time for Friday night lights. High school football. I’m so glad football season is finally here. Next weekend is college football. BOOMER SOONER!!

With all this food I’m eating. I was feeling a bit fat today. For breakfast, I had a mushroom omelet. (8 egg whites) Which quickly turned into a scramble. With it, I had 1 cup of strawberries, and 12 oz. of cottage cheese. Mid morning snack, 1 protien bar and 12 oz recovery drink. For lunch, chicken salad and 10 oz vegetable soup. Mid afternoon, a banana and peanut butter. For me that’s a lot food. whew….
Something silly happened duirng my work out. I was doing hook upper-cut move. And on the upper-cut, I took it a bit to far and hit the top of my head. Silly, huh…

I was a little nervous before doing Core. There are a couple moves that I was worried about. First was side hip raise. Trying to balance on my elbow, forearm. When I raise up, it puts pressure on my shoulder. It tweaked at first. But was ok after a few reps. The other one is reach high & under push-ups. But I was surprised that I kept my balance. And my shoulder held up good. It did not collapse, like it would before my surgery. I was weakest on plank to chaturanga run. Going to take some time to get good at that again.

Today is start of recovery week. It’s supposed to be yoga. I’m not doing yoga. So I have a choice. Take it easy with CardioX. Or really BRING IT with plyometrics. Choice was easy…. KenpoX it is… I’ve never really liked recovery week. I always felt I was missing out somewhat. Although Core does kick my butt.

I think my body is adjusting to the increased diet. For breakfast, at 7 am, I had spinach scramble with 8 egg whites. And some pineapple. So I was full afterwards. Around 930 am I was getting hungry again. So I had my snack and did my stretching. After lunch I’m going to hit some golf balls. Start practicing so I can get back out on the course.

Most of today was a lazy day. Until this afternoon. My legs and glutes are a little sore from legs yesterday. Did KenpoX and then mowed the yard. I shoud have kept my HR monitor on when I did the yard. I’m sure I burned another 1,000 calories. Speaking of burned. The sun had been shining all day. And I do my yard work without a shirt on so I can get some color. So when I started mowing, it clouded up and hid the sun. Which was nice. So no burn this week.
