Do UFO’s Exist?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

In looking at the UFO phenomena, you first have to ask yourself if Earth is the only possible planet that could sustain life as we know it. In reality, we have observed quite a few planets with similar climates to our own which indeed gives a glimpse of hope there could be life elsewhere. Now keep in mind, this is just what he have observed, and that is greatly limited in comparison to the actual size of the growing universe based on Hubble’s Law.

I do think it is probable there is higher order life forms in the universe exist just because probability allows for that. It’s easy for humans to be egocentric as a species and think "we are the grand species" because unless you are a biologist, few rarely even see humans as another animal species.

With all this in mind and the fact that there is also a high probability such an advanced species would exist outside of the observable universe (otherwise we would have picked up on the terrestrial base). This most means that in order to actually reach our planet within any reasonable time-frame their level of technology would have to have far surpassed our own. They wouldn’t be using solid rocket fuels or even the most advanced plasma displacement based propulsion theory.

In order to reach earth from distances based on light years, they would have to manipulate gravity to the degree which would warp spacetime. The question then arises, is this possible? According to theoretical physicists like Michio Kaku and Frank Tipler it certainly is. However, the power requirements for such a manipulation of gravity would far exceed to the most powerful fission technology out there and most likely would requirement a mode of fusion only dreamed of based on a form of matter not yet observed by us.

Is it probable other advanced lifeforms exist? Yes. Is it possible they have the technology to travel light year distances to observe us? Yes. Is it possible they have the technological capability to reach us? That is the question for the ages. We won’t ever know the answer to the latter until we actually observe a true UFO or extraterrestrial being ourselves.

I can assure that if the government ever got a hold of such lifeforms such as those rumored to exist at Area 51, they would never let it be known or admit to it. Personally, I do yield to probability allowing for their existence and can only hope I am privy to such contact within my lifetime.

Art Atwood Was a DEA Informant?

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I must confess that I was REALLY misled after logging onto my New York Times account and learning that IFBB Pro Art Atwood was actually a federal informant. I had heard rumors he had been arrested a while back but thought he dropped off the face of the earth because he was caught selling fake steroids.  According to Michael Brick of the Times Mr. Atwood was busy working with the Drug Enforcement Agent setting the stage for what would become Operation Raw Deal.

Article found here: Officials Make Deals to Learn Who Made Drug Deals

I guess what’s even more disappointing is that when I first got into all this I use to communicate with Art because I bought supplements from one of his stores in Wisconsin on occasion. He was a really great guy and down to earth despite his otherworldly physique. The rapport was amicable and I even felt comfortable asking what mode of supplement I should take to preserve mass when I broke me hand. He truly seemed like a good guy.

In my attempt to view the present situation pragmatically, it’s virtually impossible for anyone to say what they would do if faced with serious jail time. Would you be a rat? It’s a tough decision I know I will never have to make so I’m not worried about it. It is easy to say I wouldn’t, but when you think of how many other lives you would be destroying, the notion of being a rat becomes a little more uneasy. I’m not even going to try and sound righteous here but am just disappointed by the whole situation here. Being an informant is about as low as it goes in this business.  What a pussy.

A Little Weirded Out….

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I’m an avid forum poster even having my screen name appear in a federal lawsuit for some ridiculous reasons. As a result, I’ve come to know many members and have earned respect for some moderators on the forum who have certainly stepped up to do a good job. Some of the other moderators are there just for under the table money and self promotion which is truly disgusting considering how many ready and willing members would do it for free.

Regardless, I chopped a picture of myself and moderator named Jkeithc82 as a joke few years back because we both seemed a little too outspoken at times over forum reforms.  As you can see below, my face is actually blended over the late Heath Ledger who just passed away.

In reality, I never saw the movie Brokeback Mountain. However, I do feel terrible about Mr. Ledger’s death because he leaves two year old daughter behind and was a talented actor. It’s shame when young talent doesn’t live to see their few potential. Another actor who comes to mind is the late River Phoenix who died outside of Johnny Depp’s infamous Viper Room in Holly Wood, CA. He too was gripped by the darkside of success.

Regardless, I think it’s time I retire my Brokeback Forum photochop out of respect for Mr. Ledger and his family. I hope they can find comfort in these trying times as surely the passing of loved one is never easy. Hopefully Mr. Ledger is in a better place smiling down on us all.

Snake Oil That WORKS?

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008
Quote:
Zhang G, Shirai N, Higuchi T, Suzuki H, Shimizu E. Effect of Erabu Sea Snake (Laticauda semifasciata) Lipids on the Swimming Endurance of Aged Mice.Nutr Sci Vitaminol (Tokyo). 2008 Dec;53(6):476-81.

The effect of Erabu sea snake (Laticauda semifasciata) lipids on the swimming endurance was investigated in aged mice. Fifty three-week-old male Crlj:CD-1 (ICR) mice were fed one of three experimental diets containing either 6% lard, 6% fish oil, or 6% sea snake lipids for 16 wk. The swimming exercise was carried out in an acrylic plastic tank filled with 25 cm of water maintained at 23(o)C. Swimming times to exhaustion were measured with a load of 2% of their body weights attached to the tails of the mice. The swimming times to exhaustion of the group that were fed the sea snake lipid diet tended to be longer than those of the lard diet group, and were significantly improved compared with the fish oil diet group (p<0.05). The plasma and muscle lactate levels were significantly lower in the sea snake lipid diet group than in the lard and fish oil diet groups (p<0.05). The liver glycogen and plasma glucose levels of the sea snake lipid diet group did not differ markedly from those of the lard diet group (p>0.05), and were significantly higher than those of the fish oil diet group (p<0.05). These results suggest that an intake of sea snake lipids but not the fish oil, which is also rich in n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs), is useful for improving the swimming endurance of aged mice by attenuating lactate production and/or enhancing lactate clearance during swimming exercise, and the n-3 PUFAs contained in the sea snake lipids did little or nothing for this improved endurance.

Erabu sea snake (Laticauda semifasciata)

Apparently the sea snake lipids have the ability to increase lactate clearance from plasma. Lactate is formed during anaerobic exercise such as weight lifting, sprinting, and in some endurance exercise depending on the individual lactate threshold. Anyway, it appears at least in mice that snake oil does have some efficacy in raising the lactate threshold.

It would be interesting to see the implications of supplemental snake oil deployed in humans using Fartlek or interval training as the exercise medium. Either way, it looks the snake oil salesman might be getting his fifteen minutes of fame with some righteous humor.

Man, switching up tempos is a killer way to increase hypertrophy. On slow negatives you can literally feel the muscle fibers being torn apart which is something I strive for every training session. I hadn’t planned on going so heavy on the inclines but my first working set of 275lbs just seemed light for my target rep range of 4. Cardio sucked too but it’s not an option at this point.

Luckily at my gym we have personal monitors on all the equipment for entertainment. I spent most of my cardio session watching all the political drama play out. How far away is the election? For the Democrats I’d love to see Barack Obama get the ticket. As for the Republicans, McCain is definitely the most respectable. Now some of you are wondering whether or not I’m an ass or an elephant right?

Basically, I’m for a balanced government. I do vote on the issues, but in reality, but I never vote for one party. There is just too much variance of candidates and when you do your research on them as most of your are doing I hope, you realize that while you might side with one party, the senator or congressman and even presidential candidate doesn’t use their votes wisely. My advice is to pay attention to the issues which affect you the most and who votes in favor or against them and base your vote on that. If you don’t vote at all, please go choke yourself.

Man Gets Caught Sleeping with a Dead Deer….

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

While watching the evening news after joyfully witnessing the Green Bay Packers destroy the Seattle Seahawks I became familiar with man named Bryan James Hathaway. Apparently, Mr. Hathaway has a history of brutality murdering large livestock and having sex with the corpses.

My first thought was actually back to the scene in Clerks II where a donkey was molested which made me question screenwriter Kevin Patrick Smith’s talent. However, it hit me that this guy actually f-cked a DEAD animal! Yes, sex with any animal is beyond morally reprehensible, but a dead animal? You really have to ask yourself where was the train wreck in this guy’s childhood which lead him down the path of necrobeastiality.

Can you imagine being in that court room listening to the testimony of the officer who caught this man in the act? Even worse, can you imagine Mr. Hathaway’s defense? “Um yeah, the deer kind a looked at me funny so I thought to myself……” At times I’m at philosophical odds with our justice system but I have to admit that this time around, I felt bad for everyone subjected to this testimony. I imagine a lot of awkward silences with the occasional sigh of disgust. It makes you wonder if watching Bambi could excuse you from being a juror in this case.

I guess the only way this story could get worse is if the guy was fornicating with road kill or pulling a Tom Green in Freddy Got Fingered. Regardless, this is just straight twisted and makes some of the backwoods stories which come out of West Virginia sound like “High” tea in Britain.

In a world with child molesters in it, is there really room for people who molest animals? My message to you all is that if you see Mr. Hathaway in your town keep your livestock in the barn.

A judge sentenced Hathaway to nine more months in jail during a hearing on Friday.

Hathaway was sentenced to probation in March. It was to be served at the same time as a nine-month jail sentence he received in February for violating his extended supervision.

He was found guilty in April 2005 of felony mistreatment of an animal after he killed a horse with the intention of having sex with it. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and two years of extended supervision on that charge as well as six years of probation for taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Hathaway had just been released from prison for killing the horse when the deer incident happened. He is appealing his conviction on the deer charge.

YouTube Practice

This is my first time posting something from YouTube so I’m doing this as a test. It’s funny because I was begging the developers since the inception of BodySpace to do this. Anyway, here’s a video of two of my favorite musicians Don Ross and Andy McKee. Hopefully it works and we’ll get some training videos too. Perhaps some video commentary up here too provided I don’t drop any F bombs would suffice as well. Howard Stern has nothing on me, except for about about $150 million in the bank. :)

Beta-Alanine Ethyl Ester A SCAM?

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

It’s no doubt that in the supplement industry us manufacturers are vying for market presence by “one upping” the competition in terms of marketing and formulation. Pick up any bodybuilding magazine and you will see RIDICULOUS advertisement claims which are often not supported by any clinical research. Sometimes I wish I had gone into law just I could throw the Lanham Act at some of these purveyors of “broscience.”

Broscience - a term first used on the Bodybuilding.com forums to describe those most likely to pass on false information while using the term “bro”

Yes, I work for the company that came out with the infamous “box” ad and you are probably thinking, “Who the **** is this guy?” Beyond the obvious marketing genius which captured our target market we did not make up the statistics used in the ad and every single one of the ingredients has research supporting its efficacy.

As you most of you may or may not know beta-alanine (3-Aminopropanoic acid) is hottest new supplement on the market since creatine. From the hardest training athlete looking for increased muscular endurance to the most disgusting Big Mac eating slob who needs to fight off diabetes related advanced glycation end products, beta alanine can certainly be of great benefit. Even better, this compound is dirt cheap, not aromatic, and is extremely water soluble. Keep in mind what percentage of your body mass is actually water too!

Beta-Alanine

Despite its solubility being so high some have found it necessary to bastardize this intriguing compound through esterfication. I’m fairly certain many of you of became aware of the “ethyl ester” craze when during the CEE boom which has essentially been pissed on by recent research studies conducted by Dr. Marc Tallon et al.

You’d even be surprised at what popular CEE products apparently are actually creatine monohydrate and have been “called out” in a recent class action lawsuit which I’ll leave nameless because I don’t need to be named in another federal lawsuit for merely stating the truth about some the scum in the supplement industry. They should have just called their product NO-CEE.

Fortunately, Dr. Roger Harris who is one of the world’s foremost respected beta-alanine researchers has stepped to the plate to let the truth be known about beta-alanine ethyl ester HCL (Ethyl 3-aminopropionate hydrochloride).

Beta-Alanine Ethyl Ester HCL

“Beta Alanine Ethyl Ester HCl

19 Nov 2007

Correctly named = Ethyl 3-aminopropionate hydrochloride

WARNING
We have seen a few alarming cases of beta alanine ethyl ester HCl advertised for sale on the internet. Whilst it may seem that this is a new form of beta alanine, we must draw your attention to the safety data of this unnatural product.

Sigma Aldrich, one of the major global pharmaceutical and chemical suppliers, states on its own website Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), the following:
Quote:
1 - Toxicological Information
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE
To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical, and toxicological properties have not been thoroughly investigated.

MSDS is the international data standard covering a wide range of safety information intended for research and industrial handling of products and complies with international treaties. As a major global pharmaceutical company Sigma Aldrich really are a company that have access to current safety information.

Here’s the link if you may want to go to and check for yourself.

Or alternatively you can go through the WWW to their site and do a search for the chemical and then click to see the MSDS page. The company is Sigma Aldrich.

Why you should be concerned.
This is not a natural chemical. It is not beta alanine. Whilst the name retains the words beta alanine it is not the same - it is chemically changed and the correct full name is ethyl 3-aminopropionate hydrochloride.

Without genuine clinical safety trials, which can take decades, to investigate safety for humans and possible long term side effects, it is not possible to say that this ethyl ester derivative is safe.

Technical
Part of the molecule has been covalently esterified (in this case to add on a -CH2CH3 or ethyl side chain). Esterifcation is a reaction between a carboxylic acid group -COOH with an alcohol group. Covalent bonds are chemically strong and do not simply dissolve or break down in the body unless they come under chemical attack or the body has a specific enzyme to perform this function.

HCl
The term hydrochloride is not part of the chemical structure. It is not covalently bonded to the rest of the molecule and only forms a weak ‘ionic’ association. The HCl is released as soon as it is mixed with water or when it enters the stomach for example, in contrast to the ethyl ester.

Chemically changing a molecule and toxicity.
Curiously there are two serious problems that are always overlooked (or deliberately avoided) when those sorts of products are marketed.
1. To be effective the ethyl side chain must be removed because it alters the chemical properties and prevents the specific enzymes from utilising the so-called beta alanine ‘part’ of the molecule.
2. The new ester chemical might be so close in shape to the original that not only does it find the necessary enzyme but it may also bind to it blocking the reaction site. If this happens permanently this is known as Non-competitive inhibition and this can be toxic.

Urban myth
The belief is that by altering the structure the chemical becomes more easily absorbed - however beta alanine (the real thing already is easily absorbed).

A similar myth has been created for creatine ethyl ester. Again, to be effective the ethyl ester side chain MUST be removed - otherwise you don’t have creatine you actually have (?-Methylguanido)-acetyl-ethyl ester. This could be removed by a blood plasma borne esterase enzyme - totally defeating the claimed benefits in the first place. Because as soon as the side chain is chemically removed all you have once again is creatine that still has to be transported into muscle cells via the transporter- Didn’t they tell you this bit? It would be interesting to see the results of a kinetics study of the effect of creatine ethyl ester upon Creatine Kinase (CK). CK is the body’s only enzyme that can utilise creatine by adding a phosphate group - ready then to be used to regenerate ATP. CK is found in 3 isoforms: muscle, blood and brain. Something to risk toxic effects with? We think not.”

Please note this is another win for the good guys based on sound scientific explanation and respect for supplement consumers. To the other guys, well…..
