The Results of the Bodybuilding.com 2007 Results Are In….

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

http://blog.bodybuilding.com/Transform2007/2007/04/18/final-results-now-posted-for-real/

I must say this was fun for me because I did help get a few sponsors and was also helping a few of the contestants with training and supplementation advice. All in all it was a very positive experience and I look forward to the next contest Bodybuilding.com wants to hold.

One thing I must say though is that next time, hopefully some rules will be made clearer. This will hopefully head off any accusations of "cheating" or poor sportsmanship by those who feel they were more deserving then others. Don’t forget guys, this was also a blogging contest which means your blog contributions mattered too! ;)

Thoughts

After a few days off I was definately ready to get back into the gym. My reason for the break was because I was spending time with my sweetheart in New York. As a glutton at heart I couldn’t resist her joining her in her post competition binge of peanut butter based junk food and pizza. I figured, this will be my last chance to have these things for awhile so why not enjoy myself.

Anyway, this training session was pretty brutal coming off a small break my body is always at 100% which means I can lift at 110%. This can be hard sometimes on the power weeks because while I can lift more weight I also need to focus on not injuring myself which means finding a heavy weight I can control with ease.

I haven’t done barbell rows in awhile so it was nice to see I was able to pull some decent weight with good form. The rope rows felt really good too and I recommend you try them out. It offer a greater ROM in the concentric portion of the motion which allows for a deep squeeze to for a killer eccentric portion. You can almost feel ever fiber in your lats and low trap explode with stimulation.

Weekend at the NPC Metropolitan!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Traveling to New York this past weekend was quite a chore. Bad weather hindered every step of the way which caused me to even board a plane and sit on the runway for an hour and half only to return to the gate to find out the flight was officially cancelled. Regardless, I booked a direct flight into Laguardia and was good to go.Honestly, I miss NYC and the Tri-State area because I have a lot of family in the area. My mother grew up in Brooklyn and my father in northern Jersey. Needless to say, this has a big influence on what sports teams I have a strong affinity towards which includes the Yankees. WHAT? Anyway, it’s always good to get out of the midwest and become ensconsed once again in the melting pot we know as New York City.

There is no other place on earth where so many cultures come together in such small area. Because of this, you have the best choices of restaurants, killer market places, and rightfully so, the best damn shopping in the world. What can I say, NYC kicks ass and is in a class of its own.

What brought me to out to the Big Apple was the fact my girlfriend, Prolab sponsored athlete Vanessa Adams, was competing in her first figure competition. Obviously, becoming sponsored athlete by a large and respectable industry entity like Prolab is a great accomplishment unto itself. Yeah I’m braggin about her, but damn, she impressed them so much she sealed the deal before even stepping foot on stage. My little lady is a class act all the way.

Of course, it would have been amazing if Vanessa won her first show, but seventh place is great accomplishment. One thing about choosing your competitions is to consider the level of the playing field. The NPC New York Metropolitans is a pro-qualifier for Nationals and needless to say, it draws some of the best competition the NPC has to offer. With that in mind, Vanessa faired admirably with a more experienced class of competitors and made me proud.

After all was said and done, we both ended up in food comas because afterall, I was just looking for an excuse to pig out. I myself and embarking on my own competition prep for the fall season so one last hurrah with pizza and Reese’s was not going to be a light affair. To bad we couldn’t find that infamous Reese’s Brownie…..next post comp binge this will be a priority!

Day 7: SHOCK Shoulders and Traps

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

The Workout: 9.5 out of 10

***I’m excluding all warm-up sets***

superset w/

Seated Dumbell Laterals: 40lb’ers x 10, 40lb’ers x 10, 40lb’ers x 10, 40lb’ers x 10

Free Motion Front Delt Raises: 40lbs x 10/10, 40lbs x 10/10, 40lbs x 10/10, 40lbs x 10/10

superset w/

Free Motion Upright Rows: 80lbs x 12, 80lbs x 12, 80lb s x 12, 80lbs x 12

Dumbell Trap Rows: 60lb’ers x 10, 60lb’ers x 10, 60lb’ers x 10

superset w/

Reverse Pec Dec: 200lbs x 8, 200lbs x 8, 200lbs x 8

Cardio: Precor Elliptical 30 minutes

Thoughts

Surprisingly, my DOMS aren’t too bad from my last session. I was expecting more but I’ll take less.

I’m not going to say how good this shoulder workout was because it’s obvious just by looking at it. What I do want to mention is that since starting my new diet and this stack I’m down five pounds already in one week. It’s probably just due to the shock of a different calorie structure, but regardless, it’s still a reality.

I had mentioned dropping the calories weekly, but I might hold off a bit. It’s not like I lost any muscle in the past week, but I’m going to stick to this calorie range for the next week and see how much more weight I lose. If it’s all fat I don’t care but if it’s muscle I will have to adjust my calories a bit.

Discussion

I’m tired, so here’s a brief summary of what’s to come: arachidonic acid and tetradecylthioacetic acid both activate PPAR alpha.

Day 6: SHOCK Legs

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

The Workout: 9.0 out of 10

***I’m excluding all warm-up sets***

Hack Squats: 360lbs x 8, 360lbs x 8, 360lbs x 8, 360lbs x 8

superset w/

Walking Barbell Lunges: 135lbs x 20 paces, 135lbs x 20 paces, 135lbs x 20 paces, 135lbs x 20 paces

Front Squats: 225lbs x 8, 225lbs x 8, 225lbs x 8, 225lbs x 8

superset w/

SLDL: 135lbs x 12, 135lbs x 12, 135lbs x 12, 135lbs x 12

Crunches: 30, 30, 30, 30

Cardio: Precor CrossTraining Elliptical 30 minutes

Thoughts

This was a killer workout. I love hack squats because the its easy to maintain a controlled negative without stressing all your stabilizers like with back squats. A few times during this session I had to catch my breath and felt rather light headed. I always just lay flat on my back when this happens and get up very slowly.

I also must say that I drank probably 1.5 gallons of water during this session. My water intake has increased a bit which I’m cool with. I haven’t noticed any bloating so it’s all good at this point.

I should mention that some DOMS has certainly set in. Frankly, I don’t get them to often no matter how hard I trash any given muscle group so after this leg workout I think it’s safe to say I’m ****ed. Oh well.

For my next entry tomorrow I’ll be sharing why I feel that Melting Point (Tetradecylthioacetic Acid) would have a strong synergy with X Factor (arachidonic acid) in terms of stimulating fat loss.

U2 - New Year’s Day (Ferry Corsten Remix)

This is a bad ass remix. I’ve always been a fan of U2 and I heard this for the first time at Club Nation in DC spun by George Acosta. It’s sick and don’t mind the video because it’s not Corsten or U2. It’s some dude who thought people wanted to see his pictures to a dance song.

GASPARI NOVEDEX XT Featured in Muscular Development May 2007!

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I must say it pleases me to see a product I represent given such fine accolades. The author of the article is someone I hold in VERY high esteem despite the fact we have gone at it a few times on various forums. What can I say, I’m an *******.

Anssi Manninen is definately someone I’ve grown to respect in the industry. He’s authored many great articles on various modes of supplementation and actual products themselves.

I first came into contact when conducting my own online performance review of Anator P70. He gave me some strong insight into the product and from there I have grown to look up to his expertise on most subjects.

Once again, from myself and Gaspari Nutrition, you are the man Anssi!

A study conducted on Novedex XT by Dr. Darryn Willoughby at Baylor University accepted for publication in the prestigious International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Sports Metabolism revealed even more incredible results on Novedex XT than the original ORG study!

Hybrid Calf Training

Cardio: Precor Elliptical 30 minutes

Thoughts

Over the past few days I haven’t experienced any side effects yet. The only change I have noticed is my intake of water is higher. I do feel more thirst then on average.

One positive effect I have noticed is some increasing vascularity. I obviously don’t have a low bodyfat yet, but there is a noticeable presence of vascularity in my arms, chest, and shoulders. I find this pretty cool this far out.

You may notice I’m going fairly light on the bicep exercises too. Frankly, they pre-exhausted from the heavy back training. When I get to them in the workout I’m more or less just getting strong contractions forcing blood into every possible fiber. These are slow and controlled movements.

The Easter Bunny is Gonna **** You Up!!!!!

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

I guess it’s the time of year when the Easter Bunny must put on a happy face and hop about. However, it seems that his drinking problem has got the better of him. I can’t imagine the pressure he must be under being such a prolific figure to millions of candy starved children around the globe. Well he’s finally snapped!!!!!!

My question is, how the heck does he hop around the world so fast? Santa has his sleigh and Tooth Fairy can fly but the Easter Bunny can’t fly and doesn’t have a bunch of reindeer to drag his tired ass around. Frankly, I think the Easter Bunny is a little sick of humans expecting so much and it’s gotten to his head. He’s on a bender so WATCH OUT!

Overhead Rope Extensions: 140lbs x 10, 140lbs x 10, 140lbs x 10

Cardio: Precor CrossTraining Elliptical 30 minutes

Thoughts

I felt fairly strong on going into this workout. As I mentioned before, I’m trying to keep my bench pressing on the lighter side so as to not hurt my shoulders, etc. However, I do altere my technique to stimulate the muscles just as well and is why partials are great way to stimulate the chest.

Keep in mind, the form must be strict and eccentric motion must be slow and controlled to really damage the muscle. A lot of novice trainers don’t utilize the concentric motion the way they should. Regardless, I totally blasted my chest and tris this session.

As for sides, none were experienced accept for the increase need for hydration. I’m guess I’m getting about 2-3 gallons of water but maybe later on I’ll actually track this more closely. I should also note that I tried mixing Designer Supplement’s Sustain with mashed yams because I was out of eggwhites. It tasted OUTSTANDING!!!

Prodigy - Voodoo (Pendulum Remix Live @ SeOne, London

For those of you just tuning into my logs/reviews for this first time I should probably explain why I have videos in my posts. Essentially, music is a huge part of my life. I started playing viola/violin quite young which later turned into interest in guitar. For me, music has always been my own escape from the world and great source of solace and introspection for me.

Over the years, my tastes have varied from my electronic phase when I was spinning parties in college to a more classical approach to acoustic guitar. Regardless, I’m a club kid at heart who always likes the challenge of mastering every instrument I command. This reveals itself in many facets of my life.

Thoughts

I’m sorry I’m a few days in posting this but shit happens. Getting a few days behind was not my intention but nevertheless I’ll have the other workout up as well. We’ll get the ball rolling soon and on my first day I didn’t notice anything. No sides, no cramps, but just a little more water seemed to be necessary to feel hydrated.
