Thoughts

I’ve decided to switch my split up a bit. I’ve switched biceps and triceps training around and have added a light arm workout on shoulder day. Since it seems like my recovery is up a bit I from the Halodrol Liquigels I will certainly be pushing myself a bit more. I’ve also reverse the P/RR/S order to P/S/RR.

This workout was in part based around a recent Flex Magazine article about Milos Sarcev training a few pros at his gym. Normally, I don’t read Flex but decided to pick up a copy for the plane ride home along with a Scientific American. Needless to say, I was a little shocked to see both the Hydrid Calf Training by James Lewis and the intense giant set style of Milos Sarcev included. These have been featured on the Fit Show for months and I’m glad to see it’s finally catching on.

Also, if you are a fan of Milos Sarcev he is holding a free seminar at his gym in May. Registration can be done here and this is one opportunity not to be missed. I’m tempted to go….

Why I like Japanese Kanji So Much!

Thanks Zach. My interest in Japan was actually born from my grandfather’s very vocal hatred of the Japanese. He was a WWII Navy pilot that fought the war in the Pacific.

I spent my summers with my grandparents in a small beach community near Ferry Beach State Park, Maine. A day wouldn’t go by where I didn’t here “Jap” this or “Jap” that mixed in with all his crazy war stories.

Needless to say, I developed a keen fascination with WWII history and then Japanese culture. When I began my undergraduate studies I decided to take Japanese to meet my language requirement and actually had 8 semesters.

The tagname “deserusan” was actually a nickname given to me by a TA whom I was very fond of. In class I could be seen drinking a protein shake which seemed odd to most but he certainly respected due to my muscular frame hence the name “diesel” or deseru in Japanese.

You are correct in spotting the japanese in my new banner. It’s katakana for Daniel…each symbol meaning da, nyu, e, ru:

I also have a bunch of kanji in my avatar that is presently displayed. One frame is the seven virtues of bushido (rectitude-gi, courage- yu, benevolence-jin, respect-rei, honesty-makoto, honor-meiyo, loyalty-chugi). One is an japanese proverb, masakatsu agatsu, which means true victory is victory is self victory. Another frame is actually bushido, which is interpreted by some and myself as the "way of the warrior."

This ideology has influenced many cultures and might explain at times why I act the way I do on the forum. I take it pretty seriously at times.

Thoughts

I haven’t really talked too much about side effects on this stack for good reason: I really haven’t experienced any. Admittedly, my DOMS has increased a bit, but beyond that everything is steady as she goes. I don’t mean to imply people that have had experienced side effects in the past are pussies, but it certainly is a possibility.

Anyway, many of the benefits I have been experiencing have included increased vascularity, a better sense of muscle control, loss of fat, increased muscle fullness, and no muscle loss despite losing 8-9lbs as of today. This stack is really proving to be stellar for recomping. Maybe my results are a bit extreme because I did drop my calories a lot with my new diet, but regardless, it’s worth the money.

Down the road I’m certainly going to stack Designer Supplements Activate which also contains 3′,4′-divanil with X-Factor alone. Halodrol LG contains a synthetic version of 3′4′-divanil and I’m certainly interested in how divanil works in an extracted form. Based on the user feedback I’d say it looks very promising for me.

Gaspari Nutrition’s Response To Rumours Spread By USPLabs….

Monday, April 23rd, 2007
Quote:
Actually, the p.m. came from USPLabs. He said: (paraphrased by me, because I unfortunately deleted the original p.m.):

“This is from my chemist, and he says that there was a cross-reaction between the isoflavone and testosterone fractions in the ELISA test, so the elevated testosterone levels are basically false positive results reflecting the isoflavone levels in the blood.”

I didn’t want to spread bad rumors about USPLabs and that’s why I initially didn’t want to tell who was behind the p.m., but now I think it’s better you know exactely where the bad is coming from, before you make more assumptions about potential offenders.

It’s basically the same thing as IBE Labs did with Havoc: as you know, they wrote the infamous e-mail and sent it to distributors telling how bad Havoc was. I wonder if you or Gaspari has got such a p.m. from USPLabs? I doubt so.

BTW., I looked up by myself and it appears VERY unlikely to me that USPLbs’ claims are true: I have found that some standard ELISA kits that test for testosterone have an extremely low cross-reactivity with estrogens (estrone, estradiol) that is below 1%. and the isoflavone in Novedex is a phytoestrogen, so the crossreactivity with testosterone can be assumed to be marginal.

It has come to my attention that Jacob Geissler of USPLabs has been sending PM’s to various individuals on this forum with false claims about the following research study:

Willoughby D. S., & Wilborn C. Eight weeks of aromatase inhibition using the nutritional supplement Novedex XT: Effects on serum steroid hormones, body composition, and clinical safety markers in young, eugonadal males. International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism.

PDF Download of the Willoughby et al. Study

So with that said, it seems that once again it seems that Jacob is up to his old games. What I find funny is that he is not only insulting Gaspari Nutrition, which he has numerous times in the past, but also well respected researchers who are experts in their fields of study. So let’s see who are dear friend Jacob is insulting….

Darryn S. Willoughby, Ph.D. was the lead researcher on this project. He has professional affiliation with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Fitness Professionals and Associates (AFPA), American Physiological Society (APS), Federation of the American Societies of Experimental Biology (FASEB), International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and the Texas Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (TACSM).

Beyond his professional affiliations Professor Willoubhy has authored numerous peer reviewed publication just like the one published for Novedex XT. I would love to post them all here but who wants as you can tell from the link in his name above, his breadth of published research is quite impressive.

So why would Jacob pull such a ridiculous stunt? Is it because he didn’t like the recent unsolicited review printed in Muscular Development of Novedex XT by the Chief Science Editor Anssi Manninen? Is it because sales aren’t going so well after he has been caught numerous times lying to customers about the ingredients put in his supplements and still owes me $5000 for busting him on it?

Who knows, but what I can say about Jacob Geissler and his pathetic existence is this: If you have something to say about Gaspari Nutrition or any of our employees then do so to us. In case you missed something, some of us are friends with the companies you sent this PM to. Some of those same companies have not forgotten the fact you have insulted them numerous times in the past trying to worm your way out of the firing squad pissed at you for acting like a complete scumbag on this forum.

So Jacob, worm your way out of this one.

You may have heard of me in the past as I’m one of the few companies owners to publicly say your company did nothing more than sell steroids to teenagers in the past. I know that probably isn’t a big deal nor is the fact I was caught bashing a clinical study behind the scenes because my fictional chemist said the results were false in the hopes more companies would speak out against your product. I need every buck I can get these days.

Now look, I’m sick of your employee Deserusan exposing the fact over and over again I’m one of the most irresponsible company owners to ever post on bodybuilding.com. It’s really not fair that he picks on me despite the fact I have even publicly stated that he himself had my line of products pulled from bodybuilding.com as a publicity stunt. It’s also not fair that he has called me out for marketing 6′7′-DHB (grape fruit extract) as 6′7′-divanil which I’ve claimed to be superior to 3′4′-divanil (something you market) without ANY supporting research. It doesn’t bother you that I’m potentially putting an ingredient you use in a negative light because I’m attempting to market a fake version of it does it?

I hope you really pay closer attention to his actions on bodybuilding.com because his bashing of USPlabs is unwarranted. It really doesn’t matter that my company completely lowers the bar and puts all companies who use the bodybuilding.com forums in a bad light at times. Hopefully, we can work together someday so I can use your market position to bolster my own.

Take Care,

Jacob Geissler”

I agree. I know some people think I get off by "owning" Geissler and in some ways they are right. I’ve been insulted more times than I can let go at this point and that’s my own shortcoming.

What bothers me here is that we put a lot of time and effort into our products. We fund clinical trials to show our supplements work beyond the standard media hype we are all guilty of plastering magazines with.

GNI has had its ups and downs but the one we have done is learn from our mistakes. Maybe that’s why they hired an idealist like me after some bumps in the road….who knows. Regardless, it pisses me off when I see any company being undermined when they put their money where there mouth is with actual research. I don’t think the folks will be happy at GNI either knowing some twat on this forum was spreading some malicious lies based on what his chemist (lol) feels is poor data interpretation.

It’s not my intention to sway customers with this "call out." However, I hope that this will serve as a strong warning to any of these guerilla marketers who prey on the forum culture. If you are going to try and make Gaspari look bad you had better be prepared for a strong response.

Cry? Ode to the Poor Sports of 2007 Transformation Contest

Friday, April 20th, 2007

I must say that with the joy of Vanessa winning the 2007 Bodybuilding.com Transformation Contest there has been some excessive drama which is just showing some poor sportsmanship. Fortunately, unlike the judges, I can say what I want and am going to use this time to put this shit to bed. I’m not a nice guy and have never claimed to be, but out of respect for Vanessa, I’m not going to name any names. However, I’m sure some of you will certainly get the point.

First off, this is going to come as a shocker for some, but it’s much easier to compete in something like this being completely out of shape and transforming into an average Joe. Call me an *******, but it’s much harder to come into one of these in shape and then ending up absolutely ripped. Anyone who is has competed knows this all to well. It’s the reality of the situation and for most who are avid trainers; the latter is more impressive than the former. This is what separates the best from the rest.

Now the topic has come up about doctoring pictures or poses. When I first saw some of these pictures I thought at least one set was a little too much to take seriously. Why you ask? Well, if you are going to stick your stomach out intentionally to seem more obese, then you should probably make sure you aren’t thin enough to have oblique lines. Secondly, large double chins don’t disappear unless you are purposely lowering your chin in one picture and sticking out it out later. I’m sorry if that seems harsh and you may be able to fool a lot of folks, but not those familiar with photography and how to manipulate anatomical angling for enhanced appearances. The same goes for flexing in final poses and not in the initial set of prints. Is this hitting home yet with anyone who is whining?

Now I have also been witness to some of the fakest attitudes displayed online which go figure, it’s rumored the same person(s) were using illegal substance (i.e. steroids and other scheduled substances). Here’s a clue, some of the people voting in this weren’t idiots and can see through your Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde act. You had the nerve to talk smack on other forums let alone behind the scenes about other competitor’s physical appearances and were dumb enough to get caught saying negative things about bodybuilding.com itself let alone potential use of illegal substances. Frankly, if I were judge and saw that you openly admit to using bodybuilding.com like some skank in high school I’d have your ass disqualified in a second. Show some respect for Pete’s sake. Not everyone is as dumb as you perceive them to be and you got beat by someone who is ALL NATURAL!!!!!

As much as this last chapter of my rant hurts for me to say I am going to. Sometimes, you can have everything in place but perhaps the advice you are getting isn’t the best. There are many people in this industry who have a lot of success and use that to make money on the side with poor advice you use your hard earned money to pay for. Unfortunately, on our forum, a few people have been given special privileges to use the membership as their own potential pool of clients. Here’s a word to the not so wise, real diet and training gurus don’t need to use the forum to get clients. They do it the honorable way by paying for their own website and don’t rely on the fact the administrators aren’t aware their forum is being used in such a manner or how it’s perceived as a gross advantage for one company by ALL the other companies. Sometimes things aren’t what they appear to be and I fell for the same shit so don’t feel too bad.

With that in mind I’m going to elucidate some facts about Vanessa’s transformation some of you may or may not have known and most certainly most of the judges didn’t as well. First off, Vanessa began cutting a little over a week sooner than all of you. Why? Her main focus was on her preparation for the NPC Metropolitan so when you were possibly still trying to fatten yourselves up or just enjoying life as you normally did, she was eating a hypocaloric competition diet. She actually lost six pounds those first few days as she transitioned from a bulk diet to a cutting diet and I have the pictures to prove it. I’d post them right here but it was hard enough to get Vanessa to post her before picture for the actual contest when she was a few pounds lighter and I’ll respect her wishes.

Another little tidbit some of you failed to notice is that while some of you were probably dropping water and sodium delepleting Vanessa was drinking 3 gallons of water a day and sodium loading for her final pic in the contest. Once again, this was because her main focus was making her first appearance as a figure competitor on the NPC stage two weeks later. In her final set of pics, she was actually bloated compared to what her figure normally would have been at that stage. Had she done this for the Bodybuilding.com contest she would have been about five pounds lighter and absolutely shredded compared to her final set of pictures. Have you bothered to check out her contest pics on Muscular Development? Hopefully that will give you a clue.

Well I must say I’m a little riled up over all this. However, it didn’t surprise me one bit that some would have these reactions. It’s pretty typical these days to bitch and moan about things rather than learn from your own mistakes. The fact of the matter is, Vanessa is the hardest working person I know. Only 9 months ago she joined the forum with no affiliation to the supplement industry. Using her brains and just being her normally abrasive yet charming self, she managed to become a sponsored athlete for a company that grosses over nine figures a year even before stepping one foot on the competitive stage. She doesn’t make excuses for herself because she has had more hardship than most of you will ever fathom. Instead, she keeps her eye on the prize and takes defeat with class as she did placing seventh in her first competition this past weekend knowing one day she WILL win.

Real champions don’t bitch and moan or cast out snide remarks. They embrace defeat as an opportunity to learn and seek guidance from those who have achieved what they one day hope to achieve as well. Some of you had great transformations and may have lost more fat pound for pound. Some of you probably busted your asses and have hopefully had a spark of motivation that lit a fire which burns inside you for the rest of your life. However, there is a time to move on and accept that while you may have had a big transformation the judges decided you did not have the best. The duality expressed in this Checkett quote will hopefully be clear to some of you as the fog of bitterness slowly fades…..
