The Biggest Decisions are now. “Off-Season”

October 29, 2009

After competing in four shows this year, my body is really taking a toll. My bodyfat went down to about 2.8%, my strength is down around 25% across the board and my joints are feeling stressed to the point of pain.

Off-Season is a bigger decision then people think. Most people look at it as a relax time, take a break, eat what you want. But in fact, the first three months of your off-season is when you can make the biggest gains in Lean Muscle.

The decision you need to make is calories. You need to start at a very high calorie intake, but not to much and not to little. If you eat to much, you will gain weight to fast and find yourself cutting back later, which will stop your progress. If you are not eating enough calories, you will not utilize “hypertrophy” to the fullest, which will also slow your progress. The goal is to eat 200 to 300 a day more than you did last off-season. This will still encourage max muscle growth, but with hard work, will not go to fat storage. The big decision and overall influence on your growth is “How much calories (Muscle) are you willing to earn this year”.

3 weeks - International Naturals Team USA

August 29, 2009

Down to the 3 week mark. This is one of te placement marks that I have. At 3 weeks out, my calories are at there lowest they will be. I only have 10 days of hard multiple cardio sessions left. I really look at my progress to see where I need to hold carbs and where I need to purge them. This is the crunch time!! My caliper shows just under 3.0% depending on my water intake for that day. I still need to bring in my hamstrings, They should come in nicely this next week. Push Push Push…..

Team USA preparation update

July 18, 2009

Competition is a short 9 weeks away. My conditioning is going faster than expected. As of right now, my digital caliper says 5.0% and that is with 300 grams of carbs and plenty of salt. Next week I am increasing carbs for 5 days, and then starts the 8 weeks of depletion. My diet is a lot different than most people. The longer you train the more you realize that you body and diet is completely unique. The biggest gains a bodybuilding can make, is when you start listening to your body, not the bodies around you….. Keep pushing hard!!!

International Naturals -Team USA-

July 4, 2009

I am preparing for my next goal. TEAM USA for the I.N.B.A. (International Naturals Bodybuilding Association). I started my diet 3 weeks ago, and have 11 weeks to go. This next week starts the calorie drop and food measuring. I do not go by scale. I follow caliper to see where I am at through the diet. Right now I my highest pinch is at 16mm. Will keep you updated…..
